In the last episode in the True Tales of Enlightenment podcast series, I talk about how we can develop a direct relationship with God through communion with him. So many people are seeking spiritual guidance from any source apart from the true one because there are barriers that need to be overcome in order to enter into this relationship.
I explain how we can remove them and abide in God’s comfort, protection and Word.
Next year I will be launching a new podcast called “Abide In Me – A.I.M” and hope this will help others to seek and find the spiritual connection and wisdom they are seeking.
Merry Christmas, everyone.

In this week’s podcast I ask, “What’s the harm?” We often ask this question when we try to disguise our complacency as decency; yet our apathy has consequences.
Learning to pay attention is the antidote to complacency and the first step towards developing wisdom. We are all too often wilfully ignorant of the facts, because we seek peace rather than truth.
The “Call of Wisdom” made in the Book of Proverbs in the Bible, shows us that human nature has not changed for thousands of years. Perhaps it’s time we started to listen.

In this week’s podcast, I talk about the difference between New Age spiritualism and being led by the Holy Spirit. I explain how reading the Bible on three different levels: literal, metaphorical and metaphysical, can lead to a deeper and more fulfilling understanding of the scriptures and whether we need a transcendent moral reality to keep us from doing wrong.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the nature of and reason for suffering in the world. Many people believe that the presence of suffering in the world proves that God doesn’t exist, but this argument doesn’t tackle the reason why there is suffering in the first place.
Original Sin and the inherent corruption of human beings is the reason given by some religions, but this can make us feel perpetually guilty for being alive.
Is there an answer to this age old question that can help give meaning to our lives? Can spiritual teachings and stories sustain us through our pain?

This year is about building foundations and stability for ourselves so we can see through the subtifuge and seek out the pretenders. Clarity is the name of the game and with clarity comes epiphany.
Some call epiphanies, God breaking through. They are the a-ha moments that put us on a different track and bring new information to light. These moments of higher consciousness can be cultivated through meditation, but more importantly through study.
In order to increase our understanding we need to increase our knowledge and exercise our brains. Higher consciousness is accessed through our minds and is linked to our intuition, not our emotions. As our feelings are continually triggered, we need to learn how to calm our emotions so the truth can shine through.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the personal myths we create to comfort us and why these stories need to be examined when new information becomes available.
I discuss some of our foundational beliefs that are coming under scrutiny including Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, which was one of the theories that led us to do away with a need for God as an explantion of our origin. But did we throw the baby out with the bath water? Do we still need an intelligent designer in order to put the evolutionary process in motion? Can we be our own moral arbiter, or do we need an external moral being to pass judgement on us?
By looking through the lens of both Christian and Buddhist teachings, I ask if subjective truth and morality is enough to keep us stable during times of need? Or do we need objective truths to stand on in order to make sense of the world and our place in it?

In this week’s podcast I talk about the spiritual discipline of forgiveness and how we can practice this in our lives. Often, we find it difficult to forgive others because they haven’t confessed, apologised and atoned for what they have done. The act of confession relieves us of our burdens and cleanses our soul. It helps us to steer clear of the corruption that leads to much of our misfortune.
Sometimes human forgiveness is not enough, and we need to hand over the situation to a Higher Power. This idea permeates many religions and movements such as Alcoholics Anonymous, yet many of us are not comfortable with developing a relationship with a personal God. We prefer an impersonal idea of the ultimate divine force, perhaps because we are afraid of being judged.
The question is, are we able to be transformed by “the Universe” or ‘the Source” or do we need to wrestle with a personal God in order for our soul to be cleansed?

“For many are called, but few are chosen.” Matthew 22:14
Abraham Maslow coined the term “Jonah Complex” to describe a fear of our own greatness. It refers to the biblical story of Jonah who runs from the purpose that God has laid out for him and ends up in the belly of a whale, contemplating his fate and asking for assistance.
Maslow was interested in how we motivate ourselves and what drives us to create. Our creative power can lead us to feel, in turn god-like and unworthy of our own potential. We are then paralysed and unable to take action to achieve our goals.
How many times have you felt as if you were in the belly of the whale? Do you fear your own potential? What can we do to stop ourselves sabotaging our transcendent purpose? After all, is it not us who chooses whether we succeed or fail?
Many of us are called and feel the pull towards a life that requires us to move out of our comfort zone and radically change ourselves. This can be overwhelming until we learn to balance our god-like arrogance with humility and sustained action.

In this week’s podcast I ask why self-help is the number one selling genre in literature and why we are so clueless about being human. Our ability to self-sustain dwindles with every piece of advice sought from another. So how can we learn to sustain ourselves in times of need?
It has always stuck me as odd that we are not born with more understaning of ourselves. It would be nice to have an instruction manual saved in “the cloud” for those times when we feel lost and confused, but instead we find ourselves relying on others to show us the way.
The downside of this advice seeking is we fail to develop our personal life-sustaining practices that will help us in our times of need. Many believe that self-love is the key ingredient of nurturing and inner strength, but the kind of self-love encouraged by modern spirituality consists of treating ourselves rather than forging a strong spiritual connection through solitude, meditation and prayer.
This is how we refill our cup so that we can give to others without restriction or depletion.

In this week’s podcast I ask how many of our beliefs are based on conspiracy theories? With the death of, ‘sex trafficker for the elites’, Jeffrey Epstein people have been drawn into a conspiratorial way of thinking. In one person’s words, “We’ve all become Alex Jones.”
But in many ways we have been conspiracy theorists all along. After all, the mainstream media has pushed a false narrative for three years that Trump colluded with Russia to win the election and a large swathe of people believed the story because it came from “trusted” news sources.
It’s time we looked more deeply into how the mainstream narratives we believe to be true were initiated and whether conspiracy theories provide the underpinning of many of our most accepted beliefs.
I take a look at the Epstein case, Zionist conspiracies and the ever-controversial Qanon movement to see whether we will ever know the truth, or if we are destined to be kept in the dark forever.

In this week’s podcast I talk about love, light and truth. Many of the New Age teachings focus on love and spreading light around the planet to help humanity evolve. We even have a New Age spiritual teacher running for President and she asks, “Can Love Beat Trump?”.
But what kind of love are we talking about? And why is love the answer?
This particular teaching has never sat well with me, it seems too simplistic and vague, but it wasn’t until recently that I understood why; Love is blind. It doesn’t help us discern the truth and that is what spirituality is all about, the truth.
With so much misinformation occurring in the news we need to become even more aware of when people are lying. The media are illusionists who manipulate those who are not residing within integrity. But it is not just the media we need to protect ourselves against.
Psychic attack is rife on the planet, so how do we know when it’s happening and how can we protect ourselves from it? It is not love that will protect us, because when we are loving our boundaries are lowered; we are vulnerable.
It is our willingness to accept the truth of our situation that will give us the strength and stability to weather this particular storm.

In this week’s podcast I talk about three esoteric systems that offer us a metaphorical lens through which to view our psyche and illuminate our purpose.
Astrology, Numerology and the Enneagram personality system use archetypes and the vibrational frequency of numbers to determine our character, our strengths and weaknesses, as well as our reason for being here on earth.
While this may be difficult to understand logically, if we put reason aside for a moment and engage the right-side of our brain, we will begin to see the importance that words and numbers have on our lives.
Mathematics is used by scientists to understand the world and our place in it. We can see that number patterns like the Fibonacci sequence are embedded throughout nature. They are an intrinsic part of us, a source code, that once understood, can have a profound effect on our lives.

“The only way to moral and intellectual satisfaction, comes to those willing to take the great risk of thinking for themselves and, at all hazards, to try and share the benefits of that tolerance and open mindedness with others.” Christopher Hitchens
In this week’s podcast I talk about what happens when we awaken to new truths and how we can avoid the temptation to retreat into spiritual practices in order to dissociate from that which we don’t want to know.
When a massive cultural shift occurs, it signals the beginning of a paradigm shift. The heretics, who have been heralding the new age, are smeared and their ideas censored because they challenge the current power structure.
As censorship is being normalised within our society and even welcomed by some, we need to be aware of our own reaction to it. Whose ideas are we not willing to tolerate and why? What new truths are you afraid to accept? Are you willing to take the risk of thinking for yourself?
The bar is being lowered in so many areas and it is becoming a sin to stand out from the crowd. This is the dark side of equality, where uniformity is encouraged and the true meaning of “fairness” is inverted. In his book 1984, George Orwell predicted the inversion of familiar terms – “War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignornance is Strength.” – as a way to control the masses.
It’s time to heed his warning. It’s time to raise the bar.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the need to develop our critical thinking capabilities so we can better understand the problems we face – both personally and collectively – and the often well-meaning solutions being offered by politicians and activist groups.
One of the first questions people ask when they are going through a spiritual awakening is, “What’s wrong with society?” It’s a way of saying, “How can I help?” as they move away from being selfish to being altruistic. But often people stay within the paradigm of finding fault and assigning blame; the paradigm of victims and oppressors. This worldview is the foundation of many movements towards social change, whether that’s reparations for slavery, universal basic income or climate change activism. But this simplistic premise can’t be a true representation of a complex world. We need to move beyond this notion if we are to accurately assess the issues and their solutions.
Enlightenment in a spiritual sense is not just about finding inner peace and connecting to higher consciousness. It is also about using our minds and aligning with the values of the Enlightenment period in the 18th Century to overcome our attachment to comforting, dogmatic beliefs. Today, thought provoking criticism is often censored simply because some find it offensive. That attitude only leads to stagnation of thought, instead of the free-flow of ideas. We need to think our way to enlightenment, not hit the snooze button and hope for the best.

In this week’s podcast I talk about creativity, intelligence and autism. In the Maori language the word used to describe autism is ‘Takiwātanga’, which translated means “My/his/her own time and space.” If you have spent any time with people with spectrum disorders you will know this is an accurate description of their disposition.
We still don’t fully understand why autism develops, or have a clear idea of why many autistic people have exceptional creative or academic abilities. Are they able to access different levels of consciousness due to a difference in brain chemistry? Why can communication be so difficult for them?
I also talk about one of the most creative people of recent times, Prince and show how we can still connect to the spirit of people who have died by opening our minds to different levels of communication. This requires us to change our perception in order to understand that our reality is both physical and energetic.
F. Scott Fitzgerald said that “The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.” There are many people who are overwhelmed with the amount of information we have access to and are losing their ability to deal with a complex reality. This leads to the blunting of intelligence at a time when we need all our wits about us.
So, how can we activate different parts of our minds, to cope with this cascade of ideas. Can we learn from people with autism about how to access higher intelligence and creativity?

In this week’s podcast I talk about the energy of truth that we can see seeping into so many different areas, bringing light and justice where once there was only corruption and darkness.
By looking at some of the unexpected twists and turns unfolding in the collective; the Mueller Report, Jussie Smollett’s release, Michael Avenatti’s arrest and the ongoing revelations regarding human trafficking, we can see that there is a new game in town. The old ways of covering the truth no longer work, yet we still need to be vigliant.
Our minds are our greatest assest. It is up to us to exercise them and increase our intelligence so we can no longer be fooled.
A new dawn has come and there is no turning back. We have such a supportive and buoyant energy assisting us to become warriors; defenders of truth, protectors of those who need it the most.

In this week’s podcast, I talk about why some of the most contentious issues of our time, including transgenderism, race relations and energy consumption, are misrepresented or exaggerated through the media, and why we find it difficult to see through the smoke and mirrors.
As we look at our TVs, computer screens and phones, our consciousness moves into the second dimension and we immediately constrict our view of reality. Lowering our state of consciousness in this way eventually takes it toll and we can begin to feel more anxious and fearful. This perpetual state of fear blocks us from accessing the wisdom and clarity of the higher dimensions.
Whether we realise it or not, we are becoming multi-dimensional beings. This means we need to expand into the higher dimensions to support our ‘whole self’. We are unfamiliar with this new level of self-care, but just as we take steps to improve our physical and mental health, we must now learn to nurture our spiritual health.
As we disconnect from the 2D ‘reality show’, we will begin to feel more connected, grounded and liberated and we will finally understand the meaning of being in, but not of the world.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the benefit of accessing higher dimensional consciousness. This concept is no longer spoken about only by spiritual teachers, it has become a mainstream concept that is discussed by scientists. Yet it is incredibly difficult to understand from our third dimensional perspective.
By looking at third dimensional issues through a fourth dimensional lense we gain an observational perspective. This allows us to lessen our emotional reactions and achieve more clarity, which is the goal of any spiritual practice. Unfortunately, relaxation, fitness or happiness have become the aims of modern spiritual seekers, which lessens their ability to think clearly and evolve.
The term “Tesseract” is used in sci-fi films like “Interstellar” to describe the fourth and fifth dimensionsal construct, but can we access these dimensions now? Many people like the idea of connecting with aspects of themselves or other beings who live in different dimensions, but how does this actually work? Are we living in a huge, multi-layered computer simulation? How does spirituality fit into this model of reality?

“Every truth has four corners: As a teacher I give you one corner and it is for you to find the other three.” Confucius
As we begin a New Year it’s important to reassess, not only our goals, but our premises about life. Are we standing on a solid foundation of truth, or a pile of comfortable lies?
When we are looking for the truth we need a framework that helps us move beyond our personal opinion. Truth is not only based on knowledge, or looking at both sides of the story. We also need a level of maturity that allows us to recognise when those stories have run their course.
By reviewing some of the topics from last year using Confucius’ four cornered approach, we will can bring balance to our ideas.
All belief systems go through a reformation period, which helps keep them relevant and free from zealotry, so bring the four corners to mind when searching for the centre point of truth.

In the last podcast of 2018, I talk in more detail about synchronicity and the nature of real spiritual experiences. Many people believe they can be willed forth through devotion to a Guru, or by following rigorous spiritual exercises; this is the psychology of the seeker based on a desire for enlightenment.
However, spirit cares nothing for our human framework of cause and effect, which is why genuine spiritual experiences come out the blue. They take us out of time and elevate us to a higher level of awareness, free from desire and the need for attainment. They humble, rather than aggrandize.
As we reach the end of the year, take some time to review your spiritual practices to see if they stimulate your ego, or nurture your soul. Let 2019 be the year where you detach yourself from the need to follow others, so you can develop faith in your Self. Now is the time.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the power of hypnosis and the psychology of the group. We all, believe it or not, spend most of our waking life in a light state of hypnosis and are therefore susceptible to all kinds of subtle coercion from advertising agencies and others who want to control us. The person who seeks enlightenment through a guru, or charismatic personality, needs to be aware of the techniques used to encourage devotion through mind control.
By analysing the dynamics of cults, with special reference to the Rajneeshees and Osho, I show how easy it is for all of us to veer off the spiritual path and lose ourselves in practices that stimulate our ego. We are all subject to the power of certain people and ideas, that act like spells on our consciousness. Whether these spells are cast by organisations, or our nearest and dearest, we need to become aware of how to break them and assert our own will by connecting to our personal guidance.

In this week’s podcast I dive into the ideas of Carl Jung, including archetypes, the collective unconscious and synchronicity. Being an introverted intuitive type he was the classic mystic, who merged the empiricism of a scientist with the vision of a prophet and his ideas form the foundation for our knowledge of the psyche today.
Through my own experience with archetypal forces, I explain how these conscious symbols interact and heal us and how they were created through the perceptions of ancient humans and augmented by people throughout the ages. The collective unconscious is the store house for these symbols and can be accessed, as we would access the internet-based “Cloud” today. The password is our intention, interest and readiness to explore the unknown of the universal mind.

In this week’s podcast I talk about traditions, values and institutions that have been brought into disrepute in our western culture. I discuss the modern idea of marriage and how it differs from the traditional ideal, which leads on to a discussion of spiritual values, which have largely been lost in favour of a more materialistic focus.
Many religious traditions are beneficial because they teach us about the human condition through archetypal stories, yet we often fail to see their importance and disregard them as irrelevant. The archetype of “The Father” is of spiritual significance as it helps us connect to a higher state of consciousness, while providing a sense of security. Today, we seek safety and structure through group identities or political parties, yet they fail to satisfy our need for a transcendent meaning and connection to the divine.

“Do not repeat after me words that you do not understand. Do not merely put on a mask of my ideas, for it will be an illusion and you will thereby deceive yourself.” Jiddu Krishnamurti
In this week’s podcast I talk about the importance of cultivating a direct relationship with your own spiritual consciousness through communion, which involves listening and waiting for personal revelations, large and small. This communication is often lost when we perform rituals and mantras, or follow specific spiritual programs that fulfill our egos’ need for attainment, yet lead the seeker away from what lies within.
I talk about the birth of the New Age Movement, its roots in the Theosophical Society and the writings of Helena Blavatsky and Alice Bailey. Many of the current popular spiritual beliefs originate in their channelled works, yet people blindly adopt them without examination. I also speak about Jiddu Krishnamurti, who was chosen to be the new world teacher for the Society as a child, but renounced his role and association with all religions and sects in favour of dedicating himself to personal revelation. Communing with your own spiritual guidance aligns you with truth, and allows you to take off the mask of another person’s ideas.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the impediments to moving through the eye of the needle in order to reach the “kingdom of heaven”. In the biblical passage it’s said to be riches that block our entry, but anything that we are attached to, including dogmatic belief systems, will slow down our spiritual progress. I speak about our attachment to information and the irony that the more information we have access to the less enlightened we become.
I take a deeper look at alarmist Climate Change doctrines, New Age teachings and spiritual sales people who present themselves as saviours, as a way to understand why we are so easily persuaded by models of the world that prophesise doom or salvation. Why do we allow ourselves to be deceived? Why do we refuse to doubt ourselves, or others who have previously led us down the garden path?
Doubt allows us to think more freely, it opens the door to the other side of the story. It stops us from being foolhardy and keeps us awake.

The War You Don’t See is a powerful and timely investigation into the media’s role in war. As weapons and propaganda become even more sophisticated, the nature of war is developing into an ‘electronic battlefield’ in which journalists play a key role, and civilians are the victims.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the tides of seemingly irrational thoughts and emotions that we can experience and how we can develop an inner community of characters to help process them. Whether we use a personality typing system, like the Enneagram, archetypes or something as common as a tarot deck, structuring our world in a symbolic framework will help take the sting out of overwhelming emotions.
I speak about the importance of religions and introduce author G.K Chesterton’s work, which gives us yet another perspective from which to view Orthodoxy of any kind. If we become too logical, we lock ourselves in a mental prison that seeks to know the ultimate truth, which is often only a fraction of the mystery that life presents us. If we allow our irrational thoughts to possess us, we invite another kind of madness that rips us from the fabric of reality and isolates us in a different way. As always, combining two sides of the same coin makes us richer.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the Ancient Greek myth of Cassandra and the importance of consulting the archetypal stories that many modern thinkers believe are now obsolete. These, more than any thing, are our common heritage and allude to shared experiences that we all must navigate. The story of Cassandra offers us insight into the relationship we have with our inner oracle; our intuition.
Many turn their heads away from their inner knowing for fear of where it may guide them. But turning away does not remove the insight, it only distorts it and creates a black mirror through which to view life. Mental illnesses of all kinds are a reflection of our inability to understand our own psyche and heed the call of our inner being. So how can we create a balance between our beliefs and our intuitive knowing? How can we create equality within?

A Brilliant Madness is the story of a mathematical genius whose career was cut short by a descent into madness Diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, Nash spent the next three decades in and out of mental hospitals, all but forgotten. I often get rained on while recording the podcast and this week was no exception, but to my delight I also received the blessing of a huge rainbow appearing in front of me. It reminded me of the famous song from “The Wizard of Oz”, which is so full of hope as we dream of a new world where people live in perfect harmony.
“The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
And also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands saying
How do you do?
They’re really saying I, I love you” Yet this seems forever out of our reach, which is part of the reason there is so much unrest today. We are coming to terms with the fact that a utopian society, at this stage of our development, is unrealistic. When our ideals don’t match our reality we become impatient with our slow rate of progress and try to find someone to blame. But real progress comes from assessing our own part in the problems and solutions, which means we all need to face our guilty conscience. As Krishnamurti said, “The moment you understand something, you are free of it.”

In this week’s podcast I talk about spiritual nakedness. The process of stripping yourself down to your core, without any need to cling to beliefs, opinions, teachings, people or plans. A place where you can begin to rebuild your true self without fear.
We can see the opposite happening in the collective. People who are determined to make their internal reality and external one for all to adhere to. Those who shout the largest often draw the largest crowd, but they are also the ones with the most fear and the least connection to their spiritual self. If all you focus on is manifest materialism you will be caught up in the hurricane, so how can we each find our inner sanctuary that will eventually lead us to walk towards a new horizon?

“I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking him to change his ways.” Michael Jackson
In this week’s podcast I talk about the internal emotional states that cause us to continually act out the victim/oppressor dynamic and how internal reflection helps to change the external world. We have become a planet of pontificators, certain we will change the world through dialogue and a redefinition of terms. Political correctness confuses more than it does change the status quo and as we continue to spin out of control, we create more rhetoric, as opposed to taking on the difficult work of inner change.
Can we ever feel empowered and live without fear while clinging for dear life to our right to be victims? Are we prepared to stand out from the crowd and start telling a new story?

I’ve come to realise that Facebook isn’t for serious discussions. People go there to have a look at their friend’s photos and laugh at Trump, while reinforcing their already created belief system. But occasionally I like to post something serious, even if I am disturbing the peace. Twitter on the other hand is a war zone, which I entered for the first time a few months ago. It is the ultimate combative chat room for people who like to engage with celebrities on current affairs. I never saw the appeal of tweeting sound bites to an angry mob, but having joined as an observer, I can see the benefit of watching the battles play out.
I’ve found that in order to reap the reward of acquiring worthwhile knowledge, I need to watch both sides of the argument, so I follow people, or news outlets, with opposing points of view. If I don’t, I’m simply recreating the “safe space” of Facebook, where we all create “our world” or “our truth” and are less interested in “The World” or “The Truth.” On Twitter, once you get past the school yard bullying, acerbic comments and hilarious one-liners, the real truth often rests somewhere in the middle; a point that has been made by many spiritual teachers.
I could have chosen any current debate to write about; climate change, Brexit, free speech vs political correctness; but the one that has gripped my attention for weeks is the vehement opposition of the appointment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court in American. Most people are now familiar with this process because of the allegations brought forward by Professor Christine Blasey Ford, that Judge Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a high school party. But the Senate hearing was contentious before she came forward, because the Supreme Court determines legal precedent. Members are supposed to be politically impartial, but their personal political affiliations often determine people’s reaction to their appointment. From the beginning, the narrative in the media with regards to Kavanaugh has been that as he is Trump’s nominee, he will do Trump’s bidding.
The main objection to his appointment, prior to Dr Ford’s accusation, has been the supposition that he will overturn women’s rights to obtain a legal abortion. Headlines in the media and tweets from celebrities have focused on his desire to endanger women’s lives and narrow their contraceptive choices. This narrative caused protests in the Senate hearings and outrage from many women, but is it true? The short answer is, no. Having looked at many articles surrounding this claim I can safely say this argument is based on, at best, conjecture, at worst, a purposeful misrepresentation of the facts.
Read a selection of articles below:
Profile: Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s choice for Supreme Court
Brett Kavanaugh is not someone you want making decisions about women’s bodies—here’s why
No, Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court won’t endanger access to birth control
Reproductive rights under a Supreme Court with Brett Kavanaugh aren’t only a women’s issue
Why women should support Judge Kavanaugh’s Nomination
When questioned in the hearings about his opinion on the precedent (Roe vs Wade) that guarantees the legal right to an abortion, he said he believed it to be settled law, a precedent on precedent. Watch Kavanaugh’s response to questions about Roe vs Wade But even this didn’t satisfy his critics, who continued to write inflammatory articles about what “could” happen if he was appointed and none of it was good for women. Upon reading these articles I understood why so many people were fearful about his appointment, but I was also amazed to see how easily people accepted the validity of the claims without looking into them. It’s almost as if they wanted to believe everything they read because it reaffirmed their own opinion. But how had these opinions been formed? Not many people are asking this question.
Last week I said in my podcast (listen here), that in order to discern fact from fiction we need to understand why we believe the things we do. Beliefs and truth are interchangeable in many people’s minds; the sentiment being, “If I believe it, it must be true.” But beliefs are opinions based on our past experiences and the information we choose to allow into our consciousness. In today’s parlance people call this “my truth”. But when “our truth” is projected on to another we enter into the murky world of assumption.
Many articles in the mainstream media regarding Kavanaugh before the allegations, rested on the following faulty logic and belief structure:
1) I don’t like Trump or his policies. I believe he is a misogynist.
2) Any one associated with him must hold the same views as him, so I don’t like them either.
3) Here are some past rulings from Kavanaugh that will (tenuously) prove he will overturn Roe vs Wade.
4) Ipso facto: no one in their right mind would want Kavanaugh to be appointed.
It’s fair to say we all live through our biases, but when we affirm our right to impose our biases on another, in place or in lieu of the facts, we elevate the importance of subjective reality above actual reality. This is the definition of delusion.
Once Professor Ford’s accusation was made public and the hearing commenced, the nation was divided between those who believed Dr Ford’s testimony and those who thought the inconsistencies in her story called into question her credibility. Judge Kavanaugh strongly denied the allegation, as well as two others made against him and so the information war began. Friends of both parties called into question the validity of what each said in their testimony – Kavanaugh drank more than he let on in high school, Ford coached others on taking polygraph tests, but denied knowledge of them under oath.
I could write another article on the onslaught of hearsay that followed; yet nothing emerged that would corroborate any of the claims. In other words, there were no first hand witnesses to any of the assaults, even though they allegedly took place with other people around. Ford’s husband says she mentioned Kavanaugh by name when speaking about the assault and her therapist’s notes mention an assault, but the details of the story differ from the one she told under oath and Kavanaugh’s name isn’t mentioned – neither her full therapy notes nor the full transcript of her polygraph have been released.
So after an emotional hearing, we are none the wiser. Whether you believe Doctor Ford or Judge Kavanaugh depends solely on just that, what you believe. The facts are unclear, so no definitive truth can be found and in part that is why it has divided a nation. In lieu of an actual reality, we rush to create our own reality. So often, what we want to happen in life is upended by actual events; it’s no wonder we project our truth onto situations that counter our internal narrative. It’s easier than accepting disappointment or acknowledging we may be wrong.
Article: Outside counsel tells senators ‘reasonable prosecutor’ would not bring Ford case against Kavanaugh
Months after his nomination was announced and after weeks of testimony, Judge Kavanaugh has been appointed to sit on the Supreme Court. The media, modern feminists and the “Me Too” movement are outraged and see this as another example of the dominance of the Patriarchy, whose objective has been to oppress women for centuries. The victim/oppressor dynamic has been entwined with humanity’s history and is revived at times of social unrest, so I’m not surprised we are hearing it in this case. However, even though on the surface it looks like a valid claim, I don’t believe its use is warranted, in fact, I believe it oversimplifies the issue and is disingenuous.
Before I explain myself, I would like to encourage people to watch a speech given by Senator Susan Collins, where she gives an in depth and methodical breakdown of why she supports Kavanaugh’s nomination, even after hearing Dr Ford’s testimony. It’s well worth watching and I have yet to see such a detailed breakdown of the process and the reasoning behind someone’s view. You can view the whole speech here
Now for the explanation. In a recent tweet a female author, who often comments on feminism and politics, called out “white women” on what she calls their “eagerness to support the white capitalist patriarchy & in doing so leave their sisters to suffer. Which is what Susan Collins just did.” (the author is also a “white woman”) She then clarifies her position saying, “No wait, clearer: Not just leaving sisters to suffer. Actively participating in the further oppression and subjugation of people of colour, women and men.” All because Senator Susan Collins formed an opinion that was different to her own.
You can see this sentiment everywhere: people attacking other people who don’t agree with them, in the name of righteousness. And so one by one these movements implode, because they eventually turn on the people they claim to empower. Since coming out in support of Kavanaugh’s nomination Senator Susan Collins has been called a “rape apologist”, a term that is hurled at anyone who doesn’t subscribe to the narrative, that all women who accuse men of sexual assault should instantly be believed. These insults show a complete lack of nuance and diminish the credibility of those who profess to speak on behalf of womankind.
In a parallel but unrelated story, the Academic disciplines of Cultural and Identity studies are under scrutiny, after three academics wrote hoax papers that were admitted to some of the key journals in the fields of (feminist) gender studies, masculinity studies, critical race theory, critical whiteness theory and sociology, among others. One of the papers entitled, “Rape Culture and Queer Performativity at Urban Dog Parks.” published in Gender, Place and Culture, outlined a fake study of “dog humping” and the implications of when owners intervened.
“When the humping was male-on-male, owners intervened in the overwhelming number of cases. But when the humping was male-on-female, owners were far less likely to stop it. This, the study suggests, might say something about the owners’ internalized homophobia and their willingness to overlook female victims of sexual assault.”
Read more about all the papers here
While the connection to the outrage about Kavanagh’s appointment may at first be unclear, once you read some of the papers and the responses to them, you can see how easy it is for ideologically biased views to pass for modern scholarship. This is important because many of these views are taught to young students, who believe them as gospel. In addition, they begin to infiltrate society and the collective reality through social justice movements. If you are told enough times that we live in a rape culture dominated by a white male patriarchy that is oppressing women on purpose, you will eventually believe it, especially if those views are echoed through modern feminist movements. Thankfully, these ideas are being exposed to some scrutiny, not least because there are many people who are tired of being bullied into adopting a worldview that continues to promote and glorify victim-hood.
The Academics who wrote the fake articles, say it best “We undertook this project to study, understand, and expose the reality of grievance studies, which is corrupting academic research. Because open, good-faith conversation around topics of identity such as gender, race, and sexuality (and the scholarship that works with them) is nearly impossible, our aim has been to reboot these conversations. We hope this will give people—especially those who believe in liberalism, progress, modernity, open inquiry, and social justice—a clear reason to look at the identitarian madness coming out of the academic and activist left and say, “No, I will not go along with that. You do not speak for me.”
It is clear to me that we need to be aware of the potential for seemingly positive social justice movements to become divisive. When assignment to a group identity proves your guilt, or assumes your innocence, an unfair game is being played. Many activist movements keep our grievances alive while offering no reasonable or practical suggestions to facilitate change. Surely, if we are to make headway we need to understand the complexity of these issues so we can find solutions that work for everyone, rather than ones that are easily digestible and look good on paper. Yet slogans and a new lexicon for followers to use when attempting to convert, or persecute perceived aggressors, seem to be the best some movements have to offer. “Micro-aggression”, “trigger warnings” and “safe spaces” are all terms that point to the kind of culture that can result from the idea, that people are infantile and in need of constant coddling. If we are victims we become stuck in a loop of rage and blame. This is not sustainable. Nor do these states of consciousness lead to psychological well-being.
The idea that I have hoped to promote in this piece is that the only place where our truth matters is when we are conducting the affairs of our own lives, not deciding the fate of another. The facts do matter, as does taking a balanced view by looking at both side of any story. If life is a play between opposite forces, may we all find the fundamental wisdom of the middle way
“A situation of severe trial, or in which different elements interact, leading to the creation of something new.”
In this week’s podcast, I talk about how we discern fact from fiction and why we need to balance our emotional reactions with critical thinking. Often we trust our feelings as a substitute for using our intuition, which comes from a neutral space rather than a reactionary state of consciousness.
Once again we are seeing a battle between opposing forces that is playing out within the crucible of the Kavanagh/Ford hearing in America. While being assessed for a position in the highest court in the land, a man has been accused of sexual assault by a woman. The character of both parties has been called into question by the media and people are taking sides. But how can we assess claims that have no evidence? How important is the presumption of innocence? And what makes us sure we’re right when our opinions are based on unconscious belief systems that are never examined?
Whatever our opinion on this, or any issue, the only way to have clarity is to delve into our own psyche and start from a position of uncertainty, or at least open-mindedness.

In this week’s podcast I talk about nihilism and the futility of existence. Why do things matter to us, or not? Is it worth living a life that we feel is empty and meaningless, or does that attitude set us free? A lack of meaning can lead to depression, which is in itself comforting on some level as we perceive ourselves as victims. Wish fulfillment and magical thinking can seem like an easy way to combat depressive states of consciousness, but often leave us feeling unfulfilled. Wishing for a thing doesn’t make it so; it’s a deep examination of our values that reveals our purpose.
Purpose, meaning and responsibility are the antidote to nihilism and set us apart from other sentient beings who are not so aware of themselves and their existence. Yet self-awareness can create self-obsession, over-thinking and all manner of mental illnesses. The fact that we are truly sentient is our greatest gift, but if not used properly can become a curse. How can we live with this double edged sword of consciousness?

In this week’s podcast I talk about our desire to speed up our natural evolution through technology and the potential problems this can cause. Elon Musk has spoken at length on the dangers of creating advanced artificial intelligence before we have understood the worst case scenarios. Our shortsightedness and failure to think through the consequences of our actions has caused us untold suffering in the past. So how can we develop the wisdom needed to evolve naturally?
Part of the problem is that many find it difficult to transcend above their emotional reactions or the survival consciousness caused by the rat race. We live within our limbic system with our emotional reactions running the show. Are there ways for us to activate other parts of our minds that may have been damaged or switched off? Can we use the brain capabilities of geniuses or savants as a blueprint for a more natural evolution, or as we destined to evolve artificially?

The consequence of craving is suffering. This is one of the main teachings in Buddhism, yet it’s mostly ignored by modern spiritual seekers in favour of the pursuit of inner peace. We meditate, do yoga and practice mindfulness, while turning away from the key to finding liberation; becoming free from strong desires, or attachments.
It’s not that we shouldn’t have desires, it’s that our attachments to them cause us pain. We make bad decisions because we fear the consequences of not having our desires met and remain on the hamster wheel of acquisition and power in order to satisfy our feelings of emptiness.
Not getting what we want is an important teaching. Suffering the consequences of our actions is another. Yet we spend most of our lives running from both these scenarios. Let’s look more deeply at desire.

“In the beginning was the word…”
There are many definitions of The Logos; the word, discourse, plan, truth, spirit and the divine reason implicit in the cosmos, ordering it and giving it form and meaning. Yet the words we listen to today are often far from truthful and we have come to rely upon rhetoric rather than facts. We have a new lexicon of terms that have been rinsed of all meaning and act as a safety blanket to shield us from the fallout of a crumbling system.
But we’re not in Kansas anymore and the old ways of papering over the cracks are no longer working. The disingenuous are being called to account, which can bring up fear in the collective and can lead us into denial. But we have the tools to deal with our fear through the philosophical teachings of Stoicism and Buddhism. They help us develop a fierce level of compassion rather than a false sense of transcendence.

Part podcast, part meditation; this week I speak about love. Not romantic or familial love, but the unconditional love that forms our inner presence. Our presence is not the same as our energy field, which can be affected by the outer reality. Our presence is the core of unconditional love that we all carry within. This is where our power lies. Our presence is our power; our presence is our protection.
When we feel buffeted by the storm, we can seek refuge within ourselves by developing our inner core of unconditional love. We can invoke the assistance of other worldly beings, or we can simply focus on those we love and send that feeling out into the unified field for the benefit of all. This will bring us a feeling of connection to heal the division that is so prevalent in the world today.

Before we embark on examining our psyche, our view of life and ourselves is clouded by the past. This inner distortion actually blocks the natural process of change that we all undergo by virtue of being born. Mental illness can be seen as a reaction to these inner blocks and the world of denial that many of us live in.
Developing a connection to spiritual energy through meditation and other practices can help us clean the windscreen of our minds, so we can see more clearly. Examining our inner duality will lead to a sense of humility and increase our compassion for ourselves and others.
In this week’s podcast I talk about the alchemy of change and how understanding our inner duality helps us turn lead into gold.

Four Types of Narcissism – Dr Ramani Durvasula
Following on from last week’s podcast on injustice and corruption within our society, I ask why we find it necessary and even preferable, to fall into denial. This state of being thwarts change and allows the darkness to spread like a cancer within us and the collective. Presently, everything we have covered up, buried and denied will begin to awaken, so we need to decide whether to run from, or befriend, these sleeping giants in our unconscious.
I talk about our propensity to believe those in authority, those who charm us and those who seem too good to be true. I look into the psychology of narcissists, sociopaths and psychopaths, so we can begin to see the predators who are hiding in plain sight and call them out on their manipulative behaviour.
Our natural state is one of grace and unconditional love. Nature surrounds us with unconditional love and acceptance because we are part of the Earth. The more time we can spend in nature the easier it will be to remember who we really are.

The subject matter may make us feel angry and helpless, we may want to bury our heads in the sand and pretend the darkest elements of humanity don’t exist, but we owe it to the victims to become informed.
The process of awakening means letting go of our illusions and facing the truth, no matter how unpalatable. As with all situations in life, if we don’t know the truth we are living our lives with blinkers on. While we don’t want to wallow in the murky waters of the collective shadow, we do need to know how easy it is for our spirit to be corrupted.
I decided to list all the resources I mentioned in the podcast, so if you do decide to look into these subjects you can see the patterns that emerge.

How do we know where our thoughts come from? It feels like they’re generated by our minds but could that be simply because that is what we have been taught? How do we distinguish guidance from our everyday thoughts?
As we continue to traverse the world of blinkered, polarised thinking it is important that we elevate our thought processes and begin to examine the possible origins of thought itself. Once we begin to notice that information and energy surrounds us, we will see that our thoughts may not be our own. They could come from the collective consciousness, our guides or other unseen forces, and our nearest and dearest. How do we learn to tell the difference and reconnect to our latent psychic abilities?

What is the benefit of developing a sense of inner neutrality and how much responsibility do we have to get involved in solving other people’s problems? Often, we are the keepers of other people’s secrets, or we are privy to information that may help others to make informed decisions, yet we stay quiet. Why?
Maybe we want to keep the peace, keep things the same and not rock the boat. Perhaps we believe everyone has a responsibility to fight their own battles. But one thing is clear, whether it’s disclosure about events in our personal lives or the collective, we need to be find a balance between involvement, blame and taking a neutral position.
Resentment and victim-hood are not a stable foundations on which to build the new. Moving past these states of consciousness are vital, otherwise we repeat the pattern of oppressed fighting the oppressors. We are all flawed, let’s move on from that point. It’s time to be honest. It’s time to stop hiding.

Wisdom is only gained by walking your own path. In this week’s podcast I take some time to walk through the forest and drop beneath the swirl of chaotic energy that permeates our existence. I talk about the danger of substituting information and knowledge for wisdom and identifying too much with our intellect. The shift that many have spoken about has already happened and what we are seeing are the death throes of a dying system.
Following on from last week’s podcast on the personality typing system, The Enneagram, I delve more deeply into the shadow side of each type and the predominant feelings they have to deal with, including – anger, fear and shame. These feelings are the internal wisdom teachings of the self and should be treated as precious gems that need to be brought into the light of day. How can we develop feelings of internal support and peace while the storms rage on?

“A little learning is a dangerous thing; drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring: there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again.” Alexander Pope (Essay on Criticism)
In this week’s podcast I talk about the dangers of superficial learning and the benefits of the ‘Classical’ method of education that has been all but lost in today’s society. I talk about ancient civilisations, human origins and climate change as a way to demonstrate our penchant for drinking only “shallow draughts”. Delving deeply into topics that we believe are ‘a done deal’ is a foolproof way to exercise and transform our minds. Will you take up this week’s challenge to investigate the opposing side of an argument you are 100% sure of?
By looking at contentious issues we give our minds the exercise that is so often saved only for our bodies. Our minds can atrophy and as Einstein said, our eyes “are dimmed” when we disregard the mysterious. Whether we feel we don’t have the time or that we must rely only on experts to give us the truth, we are doing ourselves, the earth and humanity a disservice and hinder our psychological evolution.
So, drink deeply of the “Pierian spring”. The resources below will definitely get those grey cells working.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the importance and power of symbols, from corporate brands to spiritual images. We are influenced by these symbols from birth, yet we are encouraged to view life as a collection of nouns without meaning because we have lost the use of metaphorical language, which formed the worldview of our ancestors.
I talk about some of the symbols that are personal to me and the different meanings associated with them. I discuss Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs that is based on one of our most ancient symbols; the pyramid. We are accustomed to hierarchies and an upward movement towards growth, but are we willing to descend into the depths of ourselves in order to develop Diamond Consciousness, which is multi-faceted and cuts through our defence mechanisms to get to the truth.
One of the most contentious issues of our times is the impact humans have on the Earth, which of course links into our levels of consumerism. I thought I would recommend two very different perspectives on this subject (Nos. 5 and 80) in the resources below. I also include discussions about the need for God in our lives and whether there is a life force that transcends matter, as they perfectly illustrate the depth of analysis and understanding we need to develop when grappling with these complex topics.
Can we hold all perspectives in our mind, or must we choose sides?

I hit the road again in this week’s podcast because being outside and connected to nature brings me more clarity, but why? Once we understand that our own frequency and bio-rhythms need to be in sync with that of the Earth, we can understand why being in nature is so important to our well-being. Not only do we become energised, but we learn the lessons that nature has to teach us, the main one being unity.
Unity Consciousness is one of the most prevalent topics of conversation in spiritual circles and is said to be the ultimate goal. But what is it and how can we reach this state of consciousness while we are living in such polarising times?

In this week’s podcast I talk about freedom without consequences. It sounds like a movie title, doesn’t it? And in a way it is a fairy tale; yet this concept underpins so many of the social movements towards change.
We spend so much time trying to change the behaviour of others, either in our personal lives or the collective, because we feel offended or threatened. Yet these feelings come from a deep sense of unworthiness; an unconscious feeling that we all have in common.
We may act it out in different ways; criticising or controlling others, demanding attention and validation or people-pleasing. These defence mechanisms are all attempts to prove our worthiness. Yet these behaviours don’t heal our wounds and make us feel separate from one other.
I ask why we feel that having no consequences to our actions equals freedom and empowerment and how can we create strong, yet malleable personal boundaries that allow us all to be our true selves.

Whether it is the pressure of clock time or the emotions associated with psychological time, we experience time as a construct of either society or our own minds. To escape the confines of time we need to learn to connect to our own timeline and begin to work with “Father Time”; our greatest teacher.
Many people speak about the “No Time”, a spiritual realm where time doesn’t exist, but what does this means? It’s difficult for our minds to grasp this concept as we make sense of living through the construct of time. It is so much a part of existence that we rarely question how it works or see how malleable it is. By unravelling the concept of “No Time” we can learn how to be liberated from the pressures of time and be free within the present moment.

We’re going galactic this week on the podcast, as we move from the quantum reality to the macrocosm. Are we alone in the universe? Can we dial into the Universal switchboard and contact beings from other dimensions? What is the science behind channelling? How does hypnosis and meditation help us to become clearer receivers of cosmic guidance?
This week I look at the evidence for contact with inter-dimensional beings and ask why the subject is often ridiculed. I take a look at the world of channelling, that has become so much a part of the New Age Movement and move on to discuss ways we can become more discerning when seeking information from outside sources, be they cosmic, divine or otherwise.
I talk about the spiritual teacher Jiddu Krishnamurti who was seen to be a mystic, someone who had a direct link to divine truth and ask if there is a difference between mystics, prophets and the channellers we see on You Tube. How do we tell the difference between them? And should we even listen to them at all?

Following on from last week’s podcast, I have created a guided meditation to help you release the past and set intentions for the future. When we’re in a relaxed state we are much more susceptible to positive suggestions and we add more power to our intentions. The added benefit is our bodies are regenerated simply by taking 30 minutes to truly relax.
I recommend you listen to this before you sleep at night and use headphones if possible. The more you listen to it the more you will benefit.
Normal service will resume next week. Enjoy the break.

In this week’s podcast, I ask what part our own beliefs and intentions play in scientific experiments and how the power of intention can help us shape the world at large. With the help of biologist Rupert Sheldrake’s book “The Science Delusion” I talk about the assumptions made by the Materialist paradigm and discuss how the Placebo Effect and the Observer Effect are helping to upgrade this view of the universe.
Rather than being “lumbering robots” with a pre-programmed genetic destiny, we can see through the science of Epigenetics that our external environment and inner emotional state can have an affect on our genes. These scientific breakthroughs free us from accepting the cards we’ve been dealt.
The question is which bus do we want to be on? The one with the shades pulled down or the one that catapults us into a new way of understanding and relating to the world?

Join me this week as I talk about the importance of creating our own communities as a way to support each other. I speak about the rural community I live in and how living here has crystallized my sense of purpose in life. We all have a purpose but many have yet to discover it. Some people are simply here to be frequency holders, embodiers of love and compassion, as Eckart Tolle speaks about in his book “A New Earth”.
But what do we mean by “frequency” and how can understanding the unified field of existence help us to understand our purpose? In which ways can each of us lend a helping hand to our fellow man.? And is there any benefit to being, what many people call “service-to-self” oriented, in this game we call life?

Join me this week as I take a hike around the hills and talk about the concept of karma. Each spiritual tradition has ideas about why bad things happen in the world. Karma, in a traditional sense, is a form of cosmic justice that ensures we all eventually reap what we sow. But is this really true?
If the force of karma does exist how does this tie-in with free will? Is life really just a game and all of us simply players? Are we destined to play out our karmic roles or can we assert our free will and make new choices? Rather than believing that an external force will hold us accountable for our actions, we can decide to be our own teacher and learn by our mistakes. As William Blake said, “The fool who persists in his folly becomes wise.” and what better place to play the fool than here.

What is consciousness? Where does it originate from? Some say it resides in our brain and others believe we can project our conscious awareness anywhere we choose.
Shamanic cultures have accessed other dimensional realms for millennia and modern day seekers can use psycho-spiritual drugs as a shortcut to these spiritual places. But delving into other aspects of reality can be hazardous if we don’t understand or respect their sacred nature.
In this week’s podcast I discuss the scientific and spiritual nature of consciousness, psychic phenomenon and ask if the fraction of reality we are able to perceive through our five sense is the only reality available to us.

In this week’s podcast I talk about change and how we can develop a sense of “stable flexibility” that gives us a foundation to stand upon when things get rocky. Our lives involve a continual process of death and rebirth, where we get to release old beliefs and even our sense of identity, in order to move on to pastures new.
A deconstruction of our beliefs and identity is necessary if we want to grow into empowered individuals. Even though this loss causes us pain, we can learn to dive into our emotions so we can free up more space within us, allowing new possibilities to emerge.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the current trend towards extreme simplicity and why this method of promoting change is destined to create more problems than it solves. Whether we are talking about women’s rights, differences between genders or climate change, the solutions are never black and white.
Our ability to listen to others, examine our own behaviour and understand when we are emotionally triggered, helps us to be more assertive and nuanced when solving personal or global problems. Our responsibility to find our purpose and formulate our own ideas is far more important to our psychological well-being than managing the external responsibilities of life.
A response to suffering can be a feeling that life is unfair, which can lead to toxic tribalism and the ideological oversimplification that is so rampant today. By listening to some nuanced discussions about today’s topical issues we can develop our critical faculties, which brings clarity rather than the impractical goal of ending all suffering.

Four Horseman is free from mainstream media propaganda — the film doesn’t bash bankers, criticise politicians or get involved in conspiracy theories. It ignites the debate about how to usher a new economic paradigm into the world which would dramatically improve the quality of life for billions.
The Shock Doctrine is Canadian author and social activist Naomi Klein’s companion piece to her popular 2007 book of the same name. In short, the shock doctrine is a theory for explaining the way that force, stealth and crisis are used in implementing neoliberal economic policies such as privatization, deregulation and cuts to social services.
Economics of Happiess features a chorus of voices from six continents calling for systemic economic change. Communities are coming together to re-build more human scale, ecological economies based on a new paradigm – an economics of localization. (A full version is also available)

In this week’s podcast I talk about the importance of discipline in our everyday lives. Not the kind of discipline that we associate with control or punishment, but a higher octave of consciousness that keeps us from the inertia that often dominates our personal growth.
The spiritual disciplines from all traditions tend to focus on stillness, solitude, study and meditation, so how do we practice these in our busy live? Carl Jung once remarked that “Hurry is not of the Devil; it is the Devil.” because constant activity is just another way in which we distract ourselves from hearing our inner voice. Learning to listen to that voice is one of the most valuable tasks we can undertake so we can learn to live, in what Richard Foster would call, “the appropriateness of the hour.”

In this week’s podcast I talk about the importance of creativity and intuition. Being creative elevates us above our ordinary consciousness and connects us to our lifeblood. It gives us energy as it is an active rather than a passive pursuit. Creative expression stimulates different areas of our brain and brings with it feelings of inspiration while alleviating stress.
When we begin to listen to our intuition we can see we are guided towards being more creative. Our intuition often gives us illogical guidance that require us to take a leap of faith, but the more we do this the more interesting our lives become. I talk about my own journey of radical change that led me to living in a cabin in the woods, my very own field of dreams, and how we can learn to trust our own inner voice.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the importance of getting in touch with the invisible world, the world beyond our five senses. The easiest way to access this world is by beginning to understand the Self, which is the invisible essence within us.
Other examples of invisible forces, such as consciousness and the Chakra system, are discussed as a way to loosen our attachment to the idea that we are material girls and boys, living in a material world.
Through understanding metaphor and certain spiritual teachings such as, “forgiveness” and “surrender”, we can raise our consciousness from the concrete level of life that keeps us stuck in familiar patterns.

In this week’s podcast, we dive into the murky waters of, what Carl Jung called, our Shadow. This part of us resides in our subconscious mind and is made up of everything we have suppressed. It can rise up and takeover our lives, high-jack our relationships and in extreme cases cause personality disorders. Yet if we give it our attention it can become a road map towards health and happiness.
I also discuss modern day relationship dynamics as viewed through the lens of the shadow, and how we can unify our masculine and feminine aspects to bring and end to the internal battle that often wages within us.

Our feelings can be so overwhelming at times that we either don’t want to look into them, or we simply believe our emotional states to be true. But like so many aspects of life they are in the eye of the beholder. In this week’s podcast I talk about how our beliefs affect our emotional state and why it’s important to understand why we feel they way we feel.
Within society our emotions are played upon by those engaged in social engineering and in a psychological sense, the silky voice of the inner saboteur often convinces us to take the path towards pleasure instead of growth. I discuss how we can navigate these inner and outer forces and become emotionally intelligent.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the archetypal Hero’s Journey that we see in myths from around the world and how it relates to our own life journey. Joseph Campbell was the first person to write about this in his book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces.” and Carl Jung wrote about the importance of myth and dream symbols when we are embarking on any kind of psychological growth process. But where do these common stories and motifs come from and why is it important to see our lives in a more symbolic way?
In a world that is moving towards a higher degree of polarisation we need to learn to become more nuanced in our interpretation of events and spiritual teachings. Black and white thinking leads to dogma, which in turns hinders our growth. In this episode I talk about how we can walk the fine line between logic and intuition so we have a balanced view of reality. Viewing life in a symbolic way allows us a different perspective helping us to move out of victimhood and towards empowerment.

“Buji” is a Zen word meaning “no affectation” or “nothing special” and is assigned to those who are masters in Zen. For the Western mind this makes no sense, as surely someone who has mastered anything should be described as “special” and be worth of praise. Yet this Buji consciousness is something we can all aspire to in order to break out of the need to constantly prove ourselves worthy of being alive.
The best place to cultivate this state of consciousness is in nature, as nature has it in abundance. The video below combines the audio from the podcast with some photographs I’ve taken of our beautiful planet, as well as some of the animal friends I’ve met along the way. I hope it helps you remember this peaceful state of consciousness that is our natural state of being.

Much has been said about the awakening process we are collectively going through. The shift in consciousness that occurs is within our power to control, so we don’t get dragged down into the quagmire of disillusion. Yet in some ways this disillusionment is exactly what we need in order to let go of our old beliefs and outworn way of life.
In this podcast I talk about how we can bring back our sense of empowerment by learning how to shift our consciousness in the moment. It is a skill that many people never develop and so positive change never comes. Yet it is the only real power we have; to choose what we focus on, what we think, how we feel and most importantly how we live our lives. When you step into that power you change your reality.

Do you ever wonder why there are some people who you just can’t get along with? It’s as if they simply don’t understand you, nor you them. Much of the conflict in our relationships can be solved by understanding our own and others dominant personality type. Are we introverted or extroverted? Do we rely on logical thought or make our decisions based on how we feel? Are we intuitive or do we only focus on what is going on around us?
Carl Jung was one of the first psychologists to propose the idea of personality types and his work has been adapted for use in companies around the world. His typology was never meant to pigeon-hole people but to facilitate understanding and improve relationships. The first part of this podcast is a story taken from an excerpt of Daryl Sharp’s book on Jungian Personality types where each personality type becomes a character that perhaps we can each relate to. In the second half of the podcast I explore the practical benefits of becoming familiar with who we are and how we perceive the world. In doing so we can move away from judging each other and towards becoming more tolerant.

In this week’s podcast I talk about the importance of investigating and upgrading spiritual teachings, our obsession with logical and rational thought, why we are so afraid to look at the darker side of ourselves and how we have come to accept that our salvation will come through merging with machines.
Progress is measured by our technological achievements and yet we still live in a world where many are starving or homeless. Before we launch ourselves into the future by merging with machines, we need to understand why we are so afraid of confronting the darkness within ourselves and society otherwise our evolution will only be skin deep. Viewing the full spectrum of life gives us the power to make the radical changes necessary to turn this world around.
