This week's lesson opens with Psalm 119:27 asking God to make us understand the ways of His precepts with the promise of meditating on His wonders. Jayme then reviews last week's lesson including a look at all we learned about God in chapter 4. The end of chapter 4 leaves us with Moses and Aaron releasing hope to the Israelites because God has seen and is concerned about their oppression.  Chapter 5 opens as Moses and Aaron go to Egypt to speak directly with Pharaoh, but he refuses their demands. “Who is the Lord that I should obey His voice?”  Egypt was a polytheistic culture, and Pharaoh had no interest in the Hebrew's "God” and certainly was not going to listen to what this “God” was telling him to do. Instead, Pharaoh comes against God's spoken word and imposes harsher conditions on Israel. As oppression of the Israelites intensifies Israel begins blaming Moses and Aaron, quickly losing the hope they had earlier experienced. Moses returns to the LORD blaming Him and questioning his own identity. What an amazing character study of humanity interacting with the living God.
