I cannot believe we’ve already made it to the very last episode of 2023, and I’m so excited you’re joining me.
I know many of us are taking a close look right now at how we are currently structuring and operating our coaching practices. We’re also exploring how we can become more masterful coaches and how we can build out skills. Fortunately, we’ll be exploring these things in 2024.
In the meantime, I want to share with you the five tools I cannot live without in my own coaching business. I’ve been using some of these tools since I started my business all the way back in 2016 and one of the tools will become my go-to resource in 2024.
So, as you prepare for 2024, you can take a look at your own business operations and see if any of the tools I recommend might be something you want to incorporate into your practice if you’re not already using them.

I’m so glad you’re joining me for the next installment of the Back-to-Basics series here on the podcast.
Today, we’re diving into the fun topic of naming your business, and I even use myself as an example of what not to do.
In this updated episode, I share three key errors I made when originally naming my business, what I would do differently if I could go back and name my business again, and the two things I would have included in this episode if I were to recording it for the first time in 2023.
Now, if you’ve already named your business and you’re worried you might have made one of the same errors I did, don’t worry. We’ll talk about that in this episode as well.

I’m so glad you’re joining me for our ongoing Back-to-Basics series here on the podcast. If you listened to our last episode all about connecting with your audience and promoting your services, you know I teased that this week’s episode would include some of the most valuable information I’ve ever shared on the podcast.
In this replay of episode 97 of podcast, I walk you through the very process I use on connection calls. So, you’ll see from beginning to end exactly how I conduct a consult call and how I approach the act of working with someone who it interested in coaching, explaining what coaching is and what it’s like to work with me, and then inviting them to do so.
As with all of these Back-to-Basic episodes, I share some updates and thoughts at the end on what I might do differently were I to record this episode in 2023.

It’s time for the latest installment of the Back-to-Basics series. This time we’re revisiting the topic of how to connect with your audience to promote your services.
In this episode, the role our mindset plays when it comes to getting hung up on sales, how we confuse being salesy with sleazy, how to be more salesy without compromising your ethics, and more.

I’m very excited you’re joining me for another installment in our Back-to-Basics series where we’re going all the way back to the spring of 2020 when I kicked the podcast off with a Getting Started series.
Those early episodes were all about helping you build a strong foundation on which to grow your coaching practice and we’ve been revisiting some of the key ones.
Today, we’re looking at what you can do to find your ideal coaching client. I not only share an excerpt form the original episode on this topic, but I also dive into what I might have shared or done differently if I recorded this episode in 2023.

I’m so happy you’re back joining me for another installment in our Back-to-Basics series.
In this series, we’re going back to episodes released in 2020 that focus on how to get things started or growing in your coaching business. And, while these episodes are still as relevant today as they were back then, I have provided an update at the end the episode for what I might do differently if I were to record this episode again today.
The topic we’re revisiting this week is that of how you can go about pricing your coaching offer.
As part of this conversation, we’re looking at what goes into setting your rates and the three important aspects you need to consider when you are setting your prices for your coaching offer.

We’re continuing our second look at some of the foundational episodes of what I originally called the Getting Started Series.
With technological advancements, we may change the way we implement and apply foundational concepts, but the concepts themselves are still strong. That’s why we’re revisiting these episodes in this Back-to-Basics Series.
This week, we take a look at exactly what you need to do in order to create your coaching offer. I share what I was taught to do, what I now recommend you do instead, some of the questions you’ll want to ask yourself during this process, and some of the things you’ll want to consider as you put together your coaching offer.

This episode is coming to you just after the recent launch of Coach with Clarity Collective; which is my group program for innovative, intuitive coaches who are seeking support and community as they deepen their coaching mastery and build their business skills. If you’re interested in joining the collective, you can join waitlist.
One of the things I did after this launch was reach out to people who had demonstrated interest with a short survey that included a question about why they opted not to join the collective this round and there were two themes that stood out. The first was that the price point was out of their budget. The second was that they didn’t have enough confidence in their ability to be a great coach to invest the time and money into the program.
Those responses inspired me to spend the next several weeks re-airing some of my earliest podcast episodes in what I’m calling the Back to Basics series. The first episode in this series is all about helping you create clarity in your coaching, don’t you think?
Now, what do I mean by having clarity in your coaching?
Well, I’m talking about getting super clear on who you want to serve, what they really need from you, and how you want to serve them. Take a listen to this week’s episode to find out how you can do just that.

Something I’ve been hearing from my clients, collective members, colleagues, and fellow entrepreneurs is that the tried and true strategies we’ve been using for years just don’t seem to be working well right now.
While I’m not entirely sure I agree because there are still some strategies that are working well for me, I also understand that’s not the case for everyone.
So, in today’s episode, I want to explore three reasons why your strategy might not be working as well for you as it could.

This week we have a very special guest on the podcast. It’s none other than my Operations Manager, Robyn Blanton. Robyn is also the force behind Kismet Virtual Services.
Robyn and I have been working together for almost three years, but it feels like longer. In fact, it’s hard for me to remember a time in business when Robyn hasn’t been there supporting me because she has become such an essential part of Coach with Clarity©.
In this episode, we allow how we originally connected to inform our conversation around what coaches need to know if they’re looking to hire support in their business.
So, if you’re looking to hire a virtual assistant, an online business manager, a social media manager, or really anyone to help with some of the operations activities of your business, I think you’ll find this conversation particularly enlightening.

Us entrepreneurs are tired, burnt out, and bored. We don’t want the same old thing when it comes to the tools we use and how we run our businesses. We want to put more of an emphasis on making deep connections and friendships in an online space rather than just making a sale.
But, here’s the thing… not all boredom is created equal. Some types of boredom can be destructive, but some types of boredom might even be necessary for our growth.
In this episode, I share how the new social media platform from Meta, Threads led to the epiphany that inspired this episode, how boredom with the traditional marketing and sales strategies is fueling my desire to pivot how I do things in my own business, responses I received when I asked other business owners what they do when they’re feeling bored in their business or disconnected from their purpose, the types of boredom that are necessary for our growth, and more.

Regardless of how you feel about Facebook and Facebook ads, I truly believe you’re really going to enjoy my conversation with our guest.
Today, I want to introduce you to my friend, and apparently my doppelgänger, Ashley Braswell. Not only do Ashley and I look startling alike, we also have a shared outlook on how we want to run our business and serve the world. I especially wanted to bring Ashley on the show today because she is an expert when it comes to running Facebook ads.
I know many of us have what we might call and ambivalent relationship with Facebook in general, with ads in general, and with Facebook ads specifically. Yet, I know that when used properly, Facebook ads can really help us grow our business. In fact, I personally experienced that inside Coach with Clarity®.
I’ve brought Ashley on today to specifically talk about the role of Facebook ads, how she approaches it, best practices for coaches who are thinking about using ads to grow their business, how to run ads on a platform we have mixed feelings about, and how to almost hack the system in order to share our message and see more of what we want.

It’s frustrating to recognize that we simply don't have the internal resources we need to take action despite having the capability to do so.
Most of us are highly-capable individuals who know how to show up as coaches, serve our people, and help them create their desired changes. That passion drives us to keep growing and doing more, but the problem arises when we don’t check in with ourselves and get honest about our capacity.
Today I’m talking about the difference between capability and capacity and how it might inform your work inside your coaching practice. I’m sharing the difficult yet necessary decisions I’ve recently made to respect my current capacity while still growing and scaling a business I love, how I think about capacity vs. capability, old beliefs that came up when I decided to step back, why these decisions are necessary for building a sustainable coaching practice, and more. Enjoy the episode!

I am hard at work creating all sorts of new content for the podcast and for some other offers and programs I’ll be sharing more about over the next few months. It’s in that spirit that I want to rebroadcast one of my favorite episodes that I’ve done on the show.
In this rebroadcast, I share how to design a system that supports you in creating content through the lens of what I call the Content Cycle. Developing a deep understanding of that cycle has been a critical tool for me, and it’s my secret to creating content without burning out.
I originally published this episode about a year ago, and I have really been leaning into the Content Cycle that I talk about in this episode. It has been really reassuring; especially as I’ve been in this high content creation mode inside Coach with Clarity®.
So, if you yourself are hard at work creating something new, or maybe even refining an existing program or offer, I think you’re going to get a lot out of this episode.

“Put yourself out there!”
When it comes to growing your brand and your business online, this is the type of broad-brush advice you will likely come across. On the surface, it makes total sense because to grow our client base and build our impact, we need to be visible. The problem is, when the goal is simply to reach as many people as possible, we miss a lot of essential nuances - like safety and energetic alignment.
Today I’m thrilled to be joined by my friend, Mai-Kee Tsang, to learn more about her approach to creating frameworks around Sustainable Visibility®. Mai-kee is the Sustainable Visibility® Mentor, ICF-Certified Trauma-Conscious Leadership Coach, Podcast Guesting Strategist, and Speaker. She’s on a mission to amplify the voices of socially-conscious visionaries here to make a deeper difference to those they serve through an inclusive, equitable, and intersectional lens.
In this conversation, Mai-kee and I discuss her journey towards sustainable visibility, why it’s essential to put protections in place, the importance of establishing and maintaining personal boundaries in business, tools to help you figure out the best approach for you, and more. Mai-kee’s approach to sustainable visibility is a refreshing alternative to the urgency culture we’re so often bombarded with. I suspect you’ll get so much out of this conversation.

Do I really want to coach? Do I still want to do this business thing? What does it mean if I make a shift?
Many coaches hit a point in their businesses where they feel an identity crisis. To get through this and figure out what you want, we need safe spaces to openly explore our options. Places where we can explore the logical next steps as well as our desires and visions.
Today I’m joined by Mary Williams, the founder, and CEO of Sensible Woo, where she teaches highly sensitive and neuro-divergent online business owners how to replace chaos in their backend business operations with harmonious processes and systems. I've known Mary for years, and she’s someone that I have loved collaborating with and getting to know. Her ability to blend the strategic with the intuitive is very much in line with how I coach and her approach to systems.
In this conversation, Mary and I discuss the energy shift in the online entrepreneurial space, Mary’s approach to creating a solid foundation for a business, the importance of enjoying the process, how systems can help you to reclaim your time, why we need to normalize the spiritual aspects of business, and more. Mary is an expert in creating strong systems in your business to support your operations, revenue generation, and, most importantly, life. Enjoy the conversation!

Today marks the conclusion of our six-week exploration of what it means to be a transformative, powerful coach and how we can continue building our mastery. From developing your coaching presence to establishing agreements, we’ve deeply explored some fundamental coaching concepts.
For this final episode of the series, we will look at how we can support our clients in developing awareness and then taking action that leads to growth. Each of the previous five elements plays a critical part in setting the stage for our clients to have deeper self-awareness, leading to growth.
Intentional growth comes when we make decisions to transform something in our lives based on an epiphany that we've had. I’m talking about what it means to be a powerful coach, why awareness and growth go hand in hand, how we, as coaches, can best support our client’s growth, and more. Enjoy the episode!

Unclear expectations are often at the heart of misunderstandings, arguments, and conflict.
What are our expectations for our work with clients? And what expectations do they have of us? How do our agreements serve us and our clients while aligning with your goals and values?
In this episode of our Art of Coaching series, I’m talking about our commitments to our clients, businesses, and ourselves. In our coaching relationships, we must put practices in place that create space to voice the expectations and assumptions from both sides so we can manage them appropriately early on.
Today I’m breaking down why having clear agreements matters so much in a coaching relationship, different ways to create agreements with our clients, what to do if we experience challenges maintaining those agreements, and more. This is all part of being a powerful, masterful coach while building a successful and profitable coaching business. Enjoy the episode!

Trust-based relationships are vital for creating a positive and productive coaching experience.
A coaching relationship with a strong foundation of trust, honesty, and respect allows clients to feel safe to be vulnerable. It helps them to be more receptive, knowing that the coach is coming from a place of support and respect. That foundation sets the stage for the client’s success.
In today’s installment in our series on the Art of Coaching, I’m discussing why cultivating trust in your relationships is crucial. We’re expanding on all the topics we’ve covered so far and looking at how trust can be integrated at each stage.
Without trust, our ability to be ethical, powerful coaches that serve our clients consistently is compromised. In this episode, I’m sharing what it means to create a relationship centered on trust, steps to build that strong foundation in your relationships, why it matters, and outside factors we must consider when co-creating these relationships with our clients. Mindset is much more than limiting beliefs; it’s about how we relate to our internal experiences. Taking it a level deeper, a coaching mindset is about how we externalize our internal responses and how they inform our behavior as coaches.
As we continue our series on the Art of Coaching, each week builds on the last, and we develop a fuller picture of what it takes to become a masterful coach. This week we’re exploring what it means to embody a coaching mindset.
Embodying a coaching mindset is one of the ICF’s core competencies, which every ICF coach must practice actively. When we have a well-developed coaching mindset, we deeply understand that our role is to support and facilitate learning and growth in our clients. In this episode, I’m sharing why a coaching mindset is critical and how we can work on developing mastery in this area. Enjoy the episode!

As coaches, most of us consider ourselves good listeners. You care deeply about your clients; part of demonstrating that care is being a good listener.
To help clients tap into who they are and what they want, we, as coaches, first need to ensure we completely understand our clients’ situations. That comes through actively listening when our clients are speaking to us.
In today’s episode, I’m exploring next-level listening as the second part of our art of coaching series. We’ll break down the traditional approach to active listening, including how the ICF defines it, what it means to be a next-level listener, and additional ways to approach listening that will enhance our clients’ experiences. Knowing how to embody a coaching presence is a prerequisite for anyone who wants to be a powerful coach. It’s one of the core competencies of the International Coaching Federation and is at the root of being able to show up and serve our clients effectively.
As coaches, we support our clients in achieving their goals and, ultimately, in their pursuit of accomplishment, fulfillment, and satisfaction. Over the next several weeks, we’ll explore how we can do that and the skills we need to master to coach with clarity.
Today we’re marking the beginning of that journey with an exploration of what coaching presence is, what it means, and how we can develop and deepen our presence to serve our clients. Enjoy the episode!

When I hear “sales funnel,” there’s sometimes a reflexive internal cringe. We've all seen examples of funnels that are more focused on making money than genuinely serving the client. I’ve also been on the purchasing side of that, and it's not a pleasant feeling.
Today’s guest, Innovative Sales Message and Funnel Energetics Coach Danielle Klemm, is different. She's about helping you create ethical and intentional funnels that prioritize clients' needs. Danielle has over five years of experience in online marketing, helping entrepreneurs scale their one-to-many or group offer sustainably and gross manipulation tactic-free. She’s on a mission to make ease, freedom, and play not just the goal but felt throughout the process.
In our conversation, Danielle shared fantastic insights into how you can create a funnel that truly supports your potential clients as they engage with you and your business. In a world where so many online businesses are vying for our attention, being client-centered helps you stand out from the crowd and nurture relationships that last for the long term. Danielle has so much wisdom to share, and I know you’ll love this episode.

It’s an exciting feeling when inspiration strikes. Your energy surges, and you’re motivated to bring this to life. But once you get closer to implementation, losing that energy and interest is common. The shiny new idea starts to lose luster.
It’s the point where many people give up on their inspired idea. It’s an experience I've had myself and something I’ve seen countless times with clients. Some of those projects simply weren’t a good fit, but others could have been aligned opportunities if followed through to the end.
That’s why it’s so valuable to have a process to support you.
There’s nothing like seeing your ideas become a reality and knowing it’s all because you took action when inspiration hit. Today I’m sharing the five-step process I use to take action on my inspiration in the hope you can use or modify it, so the next time inspiration visits you, you’re ready to take action. When you're intentional about your story, sharing it builds a connection with your audience and becomes a vehicle for creating transformation.
That’s what makes it such a powerful strategy for many coaches to enhance their visibility and grow their businesses. The Coach with Clarity model is about helping clients achieve a powerful transformation; public speaking can be a big part of that.
Today I’m excited to introduce you to my friend and colleague, Aurora Gregory, who believes that serving generously from the stage will do more for your business than anything else. Aurora has worked with some of the biggest brands to get their messages right, create communications programs that connect with target audiences, and set marketing strategies.
In this conversation, Aurora and I take a deep dive into how to use public speaking to build your coaching business. From speaking on stage to guesting on podcasts, Aurora shares a wealth of information about preparing yourself to offer real value to your ideal audience. Enjoy the episode!

Here at Coach with Clarity, we take a balanced look at what it means to be a successful, heart-centered coach.
Since most of us are coaches and business owners, I love exploring the skill side of serving our clients powerfully and what it looks like to operate a profitable, sustainable, and aligned coaching business. As part of the business side of things, today we’re taking a look at what every coaching practice needs to set you up for success in the long run.
I started my coaching journey helping therapists and healthcare professionals in private practice. From there, I soon realized that many of my clients were interested in the art and business of coaching and wanted support in becoming coaches themselves. No matter where you are in your coaching business, it’s never too soon to think about hiring.
As we build our coaching practices, we must align our people plan with our business plan. With so many celebrity entrepreneurs sharing what they do on social media, it’s easy to feel like their way is right. The truth is that there are many “right” ways to approach hiring, and it’s up to you to check with yourself and make sure you’re choosing the path that’s right for you and your business.
Today I’m excited to share this conversation with my friend and colleague Ashley Cox of SproutHR to discuss what you need to know about hiring for your coaching practice. I’ve known Ashley for almost seven years, and we’ve grown up together as business owners.
Ashley Cox is a certified human resource professional with over 16 years of experience. She founded SproutHR to make HR accessible for visionary small business owners, and she’s all about helping women-owned businesses hire and lead in a way that boosts their profit, sustainability, and success. Ashley wrote her first book, Transform Your Stories, to guide women to overcome the stories that hold us back so we can become confident and courageous leaders who create a resounding impact in the world.
In this interview, Ashley and I discuss some things that both early-stage and seasoned business owners should consider so that they are ready to hire at the right time. She shares excellent insights on best practices and tips you can use right now. Let’s jump in!

The more visible and successful you are, the more vulnerable you become.
Taking the first step to becoming visible can be scary, and in episode 148, we spoke about managing the fear that comes with putting yourself out there. Today we’re looking at the other side of the voice and vulnerability conversation - the discomfort we feel when we share our voices and get what we want.
Even when the outcome is better than expected, our minds still find ways to highlight how vulnerable we feel and ultimately to make us unhappy. Here's the good news: it’s normal to feel this way, and we can do things to support ourselves through these experiences.
In this episode, I’m sharing two voices with really valuable and relevant perspectives on this conversation and tools you can use to regulate your nervous system and embrace joy alongside vulnerability. Enjoy the episode!

The online entrepreneurship space puts a lot of emphasis on the hustle. We’re told that achieving your desired success means putting your head down and grinding - productivity is the measure of value.
Hustle culture is not something that resonates with me, and today I’m thrilled to introduce you to Leonie Dawson, who is proof that it’s not the only route to success. Leonie is an extraordinary online entrepreneur whose approach to business is unlike anything I've seen before. She built an empire that prioritizes creativity and generosity while rejecting productivity for productivity's sake.
Leonie Dawson is an internationally best-selling author of the 2023 My Brilliant Year workbooks, which have been used by over 500,000 people worldwide. A multi-passionate entrepreneur, Leonie has generated over $13 million in revenue while only working 10 hours a week. Leonie has been recognized for her business acumen by winning Ausmumpreneur’s People’s Choice Business Coach, Global Brand & Businesses Making A Difference Awards.
In this conversation, Leonie shares how she’s created a thriving business while working only 10 hours a week, how they avoid the hustle culture trap, what it looks like to build a business without having to rely on social media, bringing your whole self into your business, getting clarity around the time you spend working, and more. Let's get right to it!

When I started listening to podcasts around ten years ago, I had no idea I’d one day be in the host's chair.
What started as a way to find community and feel closer to home while living abroad set me up beautifully to start my own podcast.
Today we’re celebrating the 150th episode of the Coach with Clarity podcast! I am so thrilled that we’ve made it this far together. As we approach the show's third anniversary, I thought it would be fun to share a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Coach with Clarity podcast.
In this episode, I’m sharing how the Coach with Clarity podcast came to be and walking you through exactly how the podcast is made from beginning to end and everything I’ve learned since starting the show. If you’re a podcaster or thinking of starting your podcast, you'll want to listen in as we get into the nuts and bolts of putting this podcast together for you. Enjoy the episode!

We live in a culture that’s not built for neurodivergence.
Our insidious productivity culture shows up everywhere, from the workplace to personal relationships and maybe even within our businesses. It has told us that our human worth is based on our ability to produce something. But when everything has to be measured and monetized, we leave ourselves no way to rest and recharge.
So how do we thrive as people who view the world differently than expected? It’s up to us to create systems that support us and to build coaching practices that prioritize accessibility.
To explore this topic more deeply, I’m thrilled to be joined by Briar Harvey, an executive functioning specialist for neurodiverse folks. Briar is a storyteller and systems witch who, for more than a decade, has been helping people figure out what the next step is and, sometimes, how to take it.
In this conversation, we talk about the personal journey that led to Briar’s work with neurodiverse people, where to start when we don’t even know what to ask for, why individualized systems are essential for those of us who are neurodivergent, how to give yourself the grace and space you need, and more. I’m excited for you to tune in!

Now more than ever, audiences want to feel connected to the people behind the brands. They want to hear from you.
In last week’s episode, I shared why I believe 2023 is the Year of the Coach and referenced an article from the US Chamber of Commerce that shared predictions for 2023. One of those predictions - the rise in founder-led businesses - is an especially golden opportunity for many small business owners. We’re the very definition of a founder-led brand!
With this shift in what clients want to see, it’s increasingly important that we are willing to show up and share our story and ourselves with our people. At the same time, sharing yourself can be one of the hardest things we will do as coaches and business owners. As our visibility increases, our vulnerability increases, and putting ourselves out there opens us up to criticism.
Today I’m exploring what it looks like to navigate these waters and how to do it in a way that aligns with your values, connects you with the more profound meaning, and acknowledges the vulnerability and the consequences of sharing your voice. I know you have a message that only you can share, and we’re waiting to hear it.

2023 is the Year of the Coach. It’s a bold declaration, and I'm willing to make it.
I was brainstorming topics for the podcast when this idea came to me. It drew my attention, and I must admit, it startled me a bit. The first thing I thought was, “Who are you to make such a bold statement?” But when I checked in with my intuition, I sensed I was on the right track.
I firmly believe in the power of intuition and that we need to pay attention when our inner wisdom speaks to us. I also believe we need to pair our inner knowing with external knowledge.
So, to remain in integrity with myself, I went in search of that external research. Imagine my delight when I found the evidence that I'm not the only one who thinks this year is filled with potential and opportunities for coaches.
Today I’m sharing a very interesting article that supports my declaration, what coaches need to do to ensure we meet the opportunities in the coming year, and how to set yourself up for success in 2023. I’m excited to dive in, and I hope you’ll enjoy this episode!

Welcome back for our first episode of 2023! It’s good to be back, and I really missed you these last few months.
When it comes to new beginnings and fresh starts, New Year’s Day is just an arbitrary day. Nothing is saying we have to wait until January 1 to do something new, and I firmly believe that any day of the year can be your personal New Year.
It’s never too late to have a fresh start.
To get the year started, I’m sharing why the start of this year felt different for me and how I’m changing the way I live my life and run my business. I’m also talking about how you can build a coaching business centered around the things that are most meaningful to you and in alignment with your values.
2023 is the year of the coach, and I hope you will continue to join me on the podcast as we talk about why now is the best time to cultivate your skill and mastery as a coach and grow a coaching practice you love. It's going to be a great year, and I’m honored to be on this journey with you.

Welcome to 2023!
While entering a new year is a certainly a time for celebration, I often find that it’s a tricky time for me. I’ve usually just come off a few weeks of rest, relaxation, and reconnecting with friends and family and I’m feeling motivated to get the year off to a strong start.
However, like many of you, sometimes the first week can feel like I’m still getting my bearings, and it can feel like I’ve fallen off track.
That’s why I’m rebroadcasting my previous episode all about how to get back on track.
In this episode, I share about feeling strong in my work in the business versus on the business, what I learned from the huge launch I had just wrapped when I originally recorded this episode, dealing with the post-launch blues, my challenges with celebrating accomplishments, confessions about my inner troll, the three M’s: meaning, mindset, and mindfulness, showing up for yourself in the present moment, getting in tune with all the aspects of mindset, meeting yourself in your own business with grace, and my challenge to you.

If you’re listening to episode around the time in drops, we’re right in the middle of the winter holidays and many of use are using this time to reconnect with our families, friends, and loved ones. But hopefully, that also means carving out some time for rest and rejuvenation.
In the spirit of that, I’m replaying my interview with Jordan Maney. I so appreciate how Jordan approaches the concept of rest, how she gives permission to coaches and entrepreneurs to really embrace rest as a part of their process, and that she provides concrete actions we can take to better incorporate rest into our daily practice.
In this episode, Jordan shares how she helps creative and intuitive business owners. lessons Jordan learned from her first venture into entrepreneurship, the messy, uncomfortable side of pivoting, her path to becoming a Radical Joy Coach™, what you need to remember about the refinement process, how Jordan defines rest, why we need to pay close attention to the energy we give out, turning your attention back to yourself, making time for rest, why everything in our calendar seems too important to cut, getting very clear on your actual capacity, the rest-capacity relationship, the several different types of rest, why Jordan believes we should aim for harmony instead of balance, the connections between rest and advocacy, what sustainable advocacy looks like, and more.

When I think back to starting my business in June of 2016, I remember feeling completely overwhelmed creating a website and an online presence. Luckily, I had the good fortune to come across Shannon Mattern, who is now my go-to person when it comes to learning WordPress and creating an online brand.
Shannon was the featured guest in episode 62 of this podcast, but it’s my interview on her show, Pep Talks for Side Hustlers, where I talk about becoming a certified life coach that I want to share with you today. I hope you enjoy it!

Today, I am super excited to share another guest appearance I made on an outstanding podcast called Therapist Rising.
Many of you know that prior to becoming a coach, and becoming a coach trainer, I was a Psychotherapist for almost fifteen years.
My background is in social work and public health, and I was a licensed clinical social worker and therapist for a very long time. In fact, much of my work in that field informs how I show up and train as a coach today.
In my conversation with Dr. Hayley Kelly, we explored what it is like to make the transition from therapy to coaching. I shared my own internalized fear around making that transition, how to handle some external feedback you might get from people, how to handle any judgment or concern that comes up either from others or yourself, some of the practical implications of transitioning from therapy to coaching, and what to do if you want to ethically and legally do both.
My goal with this interview was to provide and true and accurate perspective of what it’s like to become a coach and start a coaching practice.

If you’ve ever pondered the purpose of your life, you’re not alone. It’s one of the big questions in life: What’s my purpose? Why am I here? If you’re anything like me, you’ve asked yourself these big questions more than once. In this episode, I’ll give you the tools you need to discover your purpose in this world.
We’ll start by defining “purpose,” what it is and what it isn’t. I’ll also give you five elements that play into your purpose: your values, passions, strengths, principles, and perspective, and then give you ways to tap into each of those elements.
By the end of the episode, you’ll have the tools you need to examine your life and discover your passion.

In this special episode, I am so honored to share my appearance on The Career Clarity Show hosted by Lisa Lewis Miller.
Even though I initially appeared on Lisa’s podcast over a year, and have done over fifty podcast guest appearances, this conversation is one that has stuck with me. Lisa is such a gifted host and I shared parts of my story during this interview that I hadn’t shared anywhere publicly.
Some of the things Lisa and I discuss during the interview are my story, some of the more interesting decisions I’ve made along the way, and how a framework can help you make some untraditional choices on what is usually a pretty traditional career path.

As coaches, we help our clients create transformations in their lives. Often, that looks like a process that happens over several sessions and an extended period.
How can we condense that value into a VIP day model? What sort of boundaries do we need to set to facilitate the process?
Today I’m delighted to introduce you to my friend and colleague, Sarah Masci, the go-to person when it comes to creating, implementing, and refining your VIP intensive or day rate services. With 16 years of branding and design experience, Sarah became known as a leader in the online industry for clients looking for high-quality branding and web design before launching Day Rate Mastery® in 2019. Sarah’s mission is to use her personal strengths to empower others to take their expertise and service-based business to the next level and achieve the life and business of their dreams.
In this conversation, we’re talking about what coaches, in particular, need to know when it comes to day rates and how you can incorporate a day rate model in your business. We cover so much in our conversation, and I know you will enjoy it!

Refunds happen. They’re not fun, but they’re a rite of passage that most of us must learn to manage even though we wish we could avoid it.
As someone who has had that pit-in-the-stomach experience of opening your inbox to see an email with the subject line “Refund request,” I’ve found that they’re much easier to handle if we prepare for it in advance.
Today I’m sharing primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention strategies you can use to create a plan that you can turn to when a client requests a refund.
Before we dive into the logistics and tools, I want to emphasize that as ethical coaches, refund requests do not say anything about your worthiness as a person or as a coach. They’re just a part of doing business. I hope this episode will give you some structure and guidelines for handling refund requests and the complex emotions that can come with them.

“I don’t really have anything to talk about.”
As coaches, we need to be prepared to hear this response. It happens more often than you might anticipate, and it’s not always bad.
Before rushing in to try to fill the space or problem solve, remember it’s our job to step back, get curious, and ask questions. Once we understand their why, we can meet our clients where they are and help them make the most of their sessions.
In this episode, we’re diving into the craft of coaching, specifically what to do about the three most common reasons clients say they don’t know what to talk about in session. I’ll also share two less typical reasons you might get this response and the processes I use in each of these situations with my clients.

Every coach needs strategic planning if you want to grow and scale your business. Today's guest, Carrie Flynn of Virtual Simplicity, is here to share everything you need to know about strategic planning in your coaching business.

Virtual Simplicity has since expanded into an agency with a team of dedicated experts and specialists who help clients develop simple, easy, efficient, but not complicated online programs, funnels, and launch strategies.
I've known Carrie for over a year, and she's become my go-to person for strategic planning. This conversation was fantastic, with unexpected but necessary detours into money mindset, dealing with the guilt, shame, and anxiety that comes with money, and more. A couple of weeks ago, while under the weather with COVID, I was stuck in bed for three days. I turned to social media to pass the time and distract myself from my discomfort.
That’s where the comparison monster came to find me.
I fell down the Facebook rabbit hole and compared myself with every accomplishment and success I saw on my feed. The longer I scrolled, the worse I felt.
It wasn’t until I started feeling better and returned to my routine that I looked back and realized exactly what had happened. Hindsight clarified how I could have better supported myself during that time.
That’s the inspiration behind this episode. Today I’m sharing the five things you can do to escape the comparison trap when you find yourself stuck and how I applied them to help make sense of what I was experiencing.

Email marketing is critical for the health of an online business. Being in the online business space for over six years, this is something I learned the hard way.

It’s human to want to belong.
But for many of us, that predisposition turns into people pleasing and making decisions that might not be best for us.
Over the years, I’ve had to work to become more aware of my people-pleasing tendencies, get comfortable with the discomfort of other people’s disapproval, and focus on the things that matter most.
As we head into the fourth quarter of 2022, I’m preparing to open up the Coach with Clarity Collective - a super busy season for my business. It’s in those high-pressure times where the old habits tend to slip back in, making it all the more important to tune in to what we’re doing to support our mental health and stay aligned with our values.
In today’s episode, I’m sharing five things that I need to stop doing in my business that may be helpful in your business too. I’m also sharing five mini Clarity in Action moments to help you take action with me. Enjoy the episode!

Canva is a valuable tool that can help you to build ease into your coaching business.
If you’re not in a position to hire a designer, Canva makes getting started with designing your content very accessible. Once you’ve worked with a graphic designer to build your brand and all its elements, Canva is an excellent tool for utilizing your brand assets.
It’s a resource I use daily in my business because it makes creating graphics so simple.
I’m delighted to welcome today’s guest, Brenda Cadman, to the podcast to discuss how you can stay organized and get the most out of Canva in your coaching business. Brenda is a Canva Verified Expert (one of only 26!) who teaches course creators and service providers how to use Canva more effectively and efficiently for their business, saving time, energy, and frustration.
In this conversation, Brenda and I went deeper than Canva, talking about mindset, pricing, and how we tend to minimize our strengths. I think you’ll love this interview, and I hope you glean some nuggets of wisdom that you can apply to your business.

What can you do when someone copies or steals something you’ve created?
It’s happened to me more than once in the six-plus years I’ve been in business, and unfortunately, this is something you’re likely to encounter at some point in your coaching journey.
Today I’m sharing my experiences and practical guidance for handling situations where someone copies your free or paid material, repurposes your content without crediting you, or infringes on your intellectual property, whether or not it’s been trademarked or copyrighted. I’m also sharing what happens internally with our thoughts and emotions and how to reframe the situation so we can move forward a little more at peace with it.
With this episode, I want to ensure that you feel equipped and prepared to handle whatever comes your way if you discover that someone has been stealing your stuff, whether it’s an image you’ve posted or the contents of your paid program.
As I mentioned in the show, I am not an attorney, and this episode should not be construed as legal advice. I strongly encourage you to consult with an attorney you trust about all legal matters, including those I discuss in this episode.

Everyone can be great with money and deserves a wealthy and fulfilled life.
This is one of the core beliefs of today’s guest, Portia Jackson. Portia will admit that she is obsessed with all things Enneagram, money, and manifestation. After leaving her corporate job as a rocket scientist, she completed a certification in Personal Financial Planning, got her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional designation, and helped hundreds of Fortune 500 employees as a Financial Wellness Coach at PricewaterhouseCoopers. After leaving corporate, Portia transformed her love of personal finance, organization, and personal development into a step-by-step system to help online business owners take the money their business makes and use it to be, do, and have whatever they want in life.
I met Portia a few months ago when I heard her speak about wealth management and how it can work with your personality. As a coach and financial planner, she brings a wealth of experience when discussing the importance of money, wealth, and coaching. I think you’ll appreciate her down-to-earth approach to money and the sense of ease and grace she brings to an often taboo topic.

I would do many things differently if I were starting my coaching practice today.
Recently, I received a question from a listener: “Knowing what you know now, what would you have done differently in starting your business?”
I’m not well into my seventh year of running a coaching business, and I can hardly believe it’s been that long. Inspired by this question, I went back in time to look through old emails and files to refresh my memory and see what I was doing in 2016.
Today I’m sharing the lessons I’ve learned while building Coach with Clarity and what I would do now if I were starting my coaching business from scratch today. Whether you’re just starting or you’ve been at it longer than I have, I think you’ll find this episode helpful. I believe no matter where you are in business, it’s always a good idea to go back to the fundamentals.

Failure can be an extraordinary teacher if we are open to its lessons. I'm convinced it's the secret to our success.
It may seem counterintuitive to talk about helping our clients learn to fail, but failure is a part of life. As coaches, we can explore how our language, offers, and programs can help our clients leverage their failures for success. Since none of us can eliminate failure, we can best help our clients by guiding them through the process of navigating it.
Looking back at my experiences, I’ve found that every failure I've had in my life has been a crucial step in my evolution. Today I’m sharing one of my recent failures, and I’ll use that as an example of how we can leverage failure for future success. Enjoy the episode!

We don't do a great job talking about money as a society.
There's a lot of shame, fear, and guilt that gets tied up with our feelings about money, and that’s one of the things today’s guest Denise Duffield-Thomas is on a mission to change.
Denise Duffield-Thomas is the money mentor for the new wave of online entrepreneurs who want to make money and change the world. She helps entrepreneurs like you charge premium prices, release the fear of money, and create First Class lives. Her books Lucky Bitch, Get Rich, Lucky Bitch, and her newest Chill and Prosper, give a fresh and funny roadmap to living a life of abundance without burnout. Her Money Bootcamp has helped over 8,500 students from all around the world.
I’ve been following Denise's work for years; having her here on the podcast is a dream come true. Denise and I are talking about the power of money, how our thinking about money can affect how we make it, save it, and spend it, the unsuspecting ways our money mindset impacts our businesses, and more.
Our conversation got pretty honest, and after sharing some of my experiences and stories with money, I had a bit of a vulnerability hangover. Still, it’s entirely worth it because I know we can only remove the stigma around money by having honest, powerful conversations about it.
I know you’ll get so much from this interview. Enjoy the episode!

A summer slump is a very uncomfortable place to be.
It’s when you’re feeling bored, unmotivated, maybe even a little anxious about your business and if you’re feeling it right now, please know I am right there with you.
I have to admit, even though it’s not a new phenomenon for me, I was blindsided when June hit. Suddenly, I felt utterly apathetic about all the operational, non-client-facing pieces of my business. I just didn't want to do it.
Today I’m sharing a few things that I've done to help pull myself out and how you can support yourselves and your clients through the summer slump. Enjoy the episode!

It’s a fantastic feeling to get an idea for a new offer.
To me, it feels like lightning. I just feel lit up. I feel excited. I feel inspired.
It’s such a good feeling that it’s easy to jump straight into creation mode without considering whether it’s the best thing for your coaching business right now.
That’s why it’s so important to take a step back, ask yourself a few questions, and explore whether it’s worth the time, energy, and money you’ll be investing.
In this episode, I’m sharing the bullseye framework that I use myself and with my clients for deciding whether or not to create a new offer. I hope this will help you approach your new offer intentionally and with the solid knowledge that this will benefit your business in the long run.

The moment of hesitation when a dream client asks for your website.
We’ve all been there. You DIY’d your website, and now you have mixed feelings about it. You’re proud of yourself (look what you created from nothing!), but you know this isn’t your zone of genius, and you’re a little scared to share it.
That’s where today’s guest Samantha Mabe comes in.
Samatha Mabe is the Creative Director and Website Designer of Lemon and the Sea. She helps service providers and coaches ready to launch their signature offers and need a website that matches the high-caliber work they're doing with her signature framework. Samantha has designed and customized dozens of websites over the past six years for all types of entrepreneurs.
Samantha and I initially connected around five years ago through a mastermind program, and she was one of the first people I met when I was building my coaching practice. In this conversation, she shared practical tips on making the most of your website, great resources you can use, and what we should consider if we are ready to partner with a web designer.
I know you’ll find such value in this conversation. Enjoy the episode!

When a client asks you for your perspective, and you withhold or respond in a way that’s not client-centered, that can seriously compromise the partnership and erode trust.
Early in my coach training program, it was drilled into us that coaches don’t tell their clients what to do. I took that very seriously, and when clients would ask me for my opinion, I felt paralyzed. I didn’t know the right way to respond.
Fast forward to today; in the six-plus years that I've been a coach, I’m often asked this question in some form or fashion.
What role should helping professionals play with their clients when it comes to giving advice, sharing strategy, or just flat out telling their clients what to do?
Today I’m talking about best practices for sharing thoughts and ideas with clients, the four common pitfalls coaches make, how to course correct in a way that centers the client, and my six tips for successful sharing.

Rest is the fuel you need for your work and your advocacy.
That’s how today’s guest, Radical Joy Coach™ Jordan Maney, thinks about the far-reaching impact of true rest, unlike anything I've ever heard before.
I had the privilege of meeting Jordan earlier this year at a conference where we had the opportunity to spend a lot of time together. The way she coaches around rest is so dynamic that I invited her to be a guest expert inside the Coach with Clarity Collective and the feedback was overwhelming. Her training on rest received more love than anything I've ever offered inside the Collective.
That’s how powerful Jordan's work around rest is, and that’s why I’m excited to bring her to the podcast. You’ll find so many gems in this conversation and get so much out of her work. Enjoy the episode!

When content is a significant part of marketing your coaching business, burnout is a genuine threat.
In my experience, regularly creating original content for your people takes a lot of time, energy, and, in some cases, money. That’s why it’s essential to be mindful of our content creation process.
Today we’re exploring how to design a system that supports you in creating content through the lens of what I call the Content Cycle. Developing a deep understanding of that cycle has been a critical tool for me, and it’s my secret to creating content without burning out.
I truly hope that learning about the content cycle will be a freeing experience for you and that it will help you approach both content creation and consumption mindfully.
As you reflect on the cycle in your business, if you find yourself stuck and want a little bit of guidance on breaking through, send me a DM on Instagram (@CoachWithClarity). I’d love to hear your stuck points and see how we can work through it together. Enjoy the episode!

Once we understand the role that emotions play in our decision-making process, we can start to develop a stronger sense of agency around the decisions we make.
That’s one of the key takeaways today’s guest, Dr. Aprilia West, shares in her latest book, What You Feel Is Not All There Is.
As a psychologist, coach, trainer, author, and prosocial imagineer, Dr. Aprilia West brings 20+ years of experience working with Fortune 500 companies, U.S. Members of Congress, entertainment industry executives and creatives, tech founders, and global non-profit advocacy campaigns applying contextual behavioral science and positive psychology to maximize wellbeing and peak performance.
I’ve known April for a few years and I’m so thrilled to welcome her to the show today. One of the things that brought us together is our love of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and how we’ve incorporated its principles into our work and everyday lives.
After devouring What You Feel Is Not All There Is in one sitting, I knew that her take on this would be something I had to share with you. I believe this book should be on the shelves of every therapist and coach so definitely check it out after you listen to this conversation. Enjoy the episode!

Do your offers clearly communicate the value your clients will receive? How do you manage the journey from discovery call to onboarding? Which tools are you leveraging to streamline your admin processes?
For many of us, when we’re just starting our coaching businesses, our focus is almost totally on coaching. At that point, it’s probably not worth it to use a CRM and it’s no big deal to manually create and send a PayPal link to our one client. But as we grow and scale, it becomes critical to have support systems in place.
In this episode, I’m sharing the four elements every coach needs in their business, and the frameworks and tools you can use to serve your clients without overwhelm.

Money: it’s vital to our lives yet it can feel so difficult to talk about.

It’s essential to approach the launch process with strategy and intention.
If you’re a regular listener of the show, then you’ll know I just wrapped up a huge launch of the Coach with Clarity Collective, my accredited membership program where we explore how to deepen our mastery as powerful coaches and how to run a profitable, sustainable coaching business.
Even though this was by no means my first launch, I took a different approach than usual and I learned so much from the process.
In today’s episode, I’m sharing the seven lessons I learned from my recent launch. No matter where you are in your coaching journey, I think you’ll find that many of these principles are important whether you’re launching a program, building out your sales process, or welcoming new one-on-one clients.

Not all stock photos are created equal.
Back in 2016 when I was just getting started, I designed everything in my business for myself. Pretty quickly, I realized that while I was trying to differentiate myself with photos of lotus flowers and the seashore, there were so many people using the exact same photos I had.
For today’s episode, I’m excited to introduce you to a very good friend and colleague of mine, Elle Drouin, who is here to talk about how we can move past this huge stumbling block that prevents many of us from showing up online in the way we would want to be seen.
About three years ago I met Elle in a small mastermind program and it’s been extraordinary to watch how her business has thrived over the years.
After several years of working as the Director of Marketing & Digital Strategy for e-commerce businesses, Elle decided to launch a business focused on helping other women build their brands with strategic, diverse, and easily accessible visual content. In 2016, she launched Styled Stock Society, a stylish stock photography membership to help business owners show up confidently and market their brand with unique visuals. Since then, Styled Stock Society has flourished and Elle has collaborated with incredible photographers who add new content to the library every single week. She’s now the CEO and visionary for the brand, ensuring that they’re always creating content that reflects how impactful and brilliant your business is.
In this episode, Elle shares her journey in stock photography, the common challenges that coaches face when using stock photos, and a special offer she’s opened up to the Coach with Clarity community for her membership program. Let’s do this!

Have you been wondering if a coaching certification should be the next step in your journey?
Today I’m breaking down the changes to the International Coaching Federation’s (ICF) credentialing and accreditation process and what it means for you as a coach.
This episode is an update to episode 25 (https://www.coachwithclarity.com/25), where I walked you through everything you need to know about coaching certifications. Now I’m sharing the updates to the ICF process, how it affects the programs and services I offer (it does in a big way!), and the ways I think it will ultimately make it easier for you to develop coaching mastery and obtain your coaching credential.
If you have any questions about whether a coaching certification is the right next step for you, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram (@CoachWithClarity) or by email (info@coachwithclarity.com). I’m happy to be a resource for you!

If I could just show up and work with my clients, life would be golden.
Working with clients in any capacity lights me up. But the on-the-business work? Not so much.
Coming out of a long launch season, I’ve found myself in a self-reflective period and when I sat down to record this episode I ended up going in a completely different direction than I had planned.
Most of us go into coaching because we love helping people achieve their greatest potential. We don't necessarily go into coaching because we want to be business owners or entrepreneurs. For most of us, those are skills that we develop along the way.
Six years into this journey, I'm still learning new ways to approach my work and my business. And part of that means giving myself the space to sort out how I'm feeling, what I'm thinking, and where I want to go next.
Today I’m sharing from a very vulnerable place about the lessons I learned from my recent launch and my approach to working through feelings of being stuck or unmotivated in your business.
I hope that you’ll find some benefits in today's show. Enjoy the episode!

Whether you’re a coach or a clinician, doing your own healing work is an essential part of serving your clients to the best of your ability.
Today I have the distinct pleasure of interviewing author, educator, somatic psychotherapist, and podcaster, Laura Mae Northrup. Laura’s book Radical Healership has been such a fantastic read for me and my copy is filled with highlighted passages and notes in the margins of every page. She is also the host and creator of the podcast Inside Eyes, an audio series about people using entheogens & psychedelics to heal from sexual trauma.
There is so much wisdom in Laura’s book and she shared so many insights with us in this conversation. In the episode we talk about her perspective on how to create an ethical client-centered healing practice, what it was like for her to birth this book into the world, why embodiment is so important for healing practitioners, and more.

Conflict happens within coaching relationships. It’s normal.
But for many of us, even the thought of having a disagreement with someone, especially a client, can bring up all sorts of uncomfortable feelings deep in the pit of your stomach.
As a recovering people pleaser, my first thoughts tend to go to wondering if I caused the conflict or simply anger or resentment that it’s happening at all.
The truth is that conflict is not only inevitable, but it can actually be helpful.
In this episode, we’re talking about the difference between constructive and destructive conflict, what we can do to try to minimize unhelpful conflict in our coaching relationships, and how to navigate conflict when it arises.

For many coaches, it’s the dreaded S-word. The part of their practice that they wish they could avoid forever. But no matter how we feel about it, sales is an essential part of being in business.
Today I’m joined by dynamic sales expert, Erika Tebbens, who is on a mission to change the way we think about sales. Erika is a sales strategist for rebels who reject the status quo but still want to hit their big goals, be well-paid and well-rested, and don’t want to compromise their values in order to get where they want to go.
Through her work as a sales strategist, Erika shares an approach to sales that’s grounded in integrity and connection She believes that sales can be easy and even fun once you tap into your natural strengths and gifts.

When it comes to building a successful coaching practice, there are two central fears that come up for many of us.
These fears can keep us from making progress in our businesses and in our lives because of all the unwanted emotions they create. They continue to stress us out and as we grow and progress in our businesses, they don't seem to go away.
Today I want to shed light on the monsters that are hiding in the dark so that we can remove some of the scariness and normalize what so many of us experience. In this episode, I'm sharing how these fears can serve us, what we need to look out for to prevent these fears from being exploited by others and how we can manage them as we grow our coaching practices.

Anchoring your business outside of yourself is not a good idea.
When I just started my coaching practice, I was convinced that corporate coaching would be my path to long-lasting success. After all, when I looked at what other successful coaches were doing, that seemed to be the common thread.
One year later, I was miserable and I knew something had to change.
In the years since, I've learned some critical lessons about where I went wrong when I just started out, the importance of alignment, and how to make business decisions that are anchored within yourself.
In this episode I'm sharing my origin story, the mistakes I made along the way, and the guiding principles you can use to figure out where to focus your energy when you're starting your coaching business.
If you already have a coaching business, there's something here for you too. These concepts are relevant throughout the lifespan of your business and I find that I come back to them again and again as I grow.
Regardless of whether you are just starting out or you've been doing this for a while, I think you will find great value in today's show.

What should you have in place before you launch your coaching offers? How long should your launch timeline be? Is there a difference between launching a new offer or doing a relaunch?
For today’s episode, I had the fantastic opportunity to talk to one of the foremost experts on online launches, Tasha Booth, who’s answering all your questions about launching.
Tasha Booth is an agency owner, coach, and podcaster. She is the Founder & CEO of The Launch Guild, a full-service launch support agency working with established coaches and course creators with course & podcast launches. Her team is over 30 members strong and works together to support their clients in being able to focus back onto their zones of genius.
I’ve been connected with Tasha for a few years and she is just as warm, caring, and whip-smart in person as she is online and on her podcasts. We really get into the nitty-gritty of online launches and I suspect if you've got a question about launching, it'll probably be answered in today's show.

For both personal development and in our work as coaches, personality assessments can help us to deepen our understanding of ourselves and others.
Back in 1994 as an angsty teenager, personality assessments were the first thing I encountered that ever made me feel validated and like there were other people like me out there. They were introduced to me by my grandmother, Mary Lou, and I credit them for my early interest in psychology and ultimately, my career as a coach.
Today we’re talking about four of my favorite assessments: Myers-Briggs, the Enneagram, StrengthsFinder, and the Energy Leadership Index. I’ll be sharing a bit of the background and history of each assessment, their pillars, resources you can use to find your type and learn more, and how I use them in my life.
Do you use these assessments in your practice? Are there different ones that you prefer? I would love your thoughts and feedback about today's episode. Find me on Instagram (@CoachWithClarity) and let me know!

You’ve been having great sessions and then out of the blue, your client doesn’t show up to a call and doesn’t reply to your emails.
You thought you had a good connection but poof, they’re gone.
It sucks.
Whether it’s a client that disappears or a potential client booking a call and never showing up for the meeting, just about every coach and entrepreneur I have ever met has experienced this.
You are not alone.
Today I’m sharing strategies you can put in place in your coaching business to reduce the chance of this happening in the first place and my top tips for what to do if it does happen to you.

When we know our priorities we can take action and make decisions in our business that are fully aligned with our priorities and our values.
That’s why getting clear on what you're saying yes and saying no to is an essential step in any business planning process. Once you know your non-negotiables, it becomes much easier to filter through all the possibilities and shiny objects and focus on the most important elements.
In my annual planning process, when I mapped out my Hell Yes list I grouped the things that fit together and from there I came up with four key areas of my business that I’m saying yes to for 2022 and maybe even beyond. That’s what I’m sharing with you today.
If you haven't already taken the time to chart out your Hell Yes and Hell No lists for the year, I encourage you to do that as soon as you can. I hope today’s episode will give you a bit of inspiration as you set your intentions for the future.

When I take the time to do an annual review - even if it's uncomfortable and even if there are some data points in there that I don't want to remember - it always sets me up so beautifully to create a clear plan for the year to come.
That’s why I’m sharing this two-part series on how to plan and prepare for your best year yet.
In part one today, we’re diving into the annual review process and I’m sharing exactly what I do to assess everything that happened in the last year. That review will prepare us for part two next week, where we’ll get into the actual planning for the year to come.
If you tend to prefer to dive right in and be completely future-focused with your annual planning, I'm inviting you to try something a little different and kick things off with an annual review.
To help you to apply the things we’re talking about, I'm also sharing some tips and tricks along the way to make it easier for you both this year, and next year when you repeat the process.

Exploring the intersection of spirituality and business has always been an interest of mine and today I have a very special interview to share with you.
I’m joined by Manasi Kakade, a Practical Spirituality Mentor, and Speaker for Bridgewalker visionaries. She describes Bridgewalkers as analytical, critical thinkers fascinated by spirituality. Manasi teaches Bridgewalker coaches, healers, artists, and authors how to master their 7 Chakra through practical business actions and create an unshakable internal foundation that leaders need to deliver their visionary message and mission through their business.
In this thought-provoking conversation, we dive into what it looks like to connect spirituality and business and Manasi drops one truth bomb after the other. It literally took my breath away and I will be listening to this conversation again because there are so many gems in what she shared with us.

There's a common theme that I'm noticing among my clients, and also with myself.
It's the tendency to vacillate between feeling really excited about everything that we could potentially create and feeling completely overwhelmed by all of the possibilities and opportunities.
That's what I call the Opportunity-Overwhelm Cycle.
In this episode, I’m exploring the Opportunity-Overwhelm Cycle and how my thoughts and experiences with it have changed in the last couple of years. We're going to talk about why it happens and what we can do to break the cycle.
I hope that this episode helps you guide your clients through their Opportunity-Overwhelm cycles and that you'll find some gems that you can apply in your own life.

There’s no more important topic for coaches and business owners than ethics.

Sadly, there are tons of examples out there of questionable, if not downright unethical, business practices. That's why today we’re exploring what ethics are, what it means to be an ethical coach, and key considerations to keep in mind whenever we’re engaging with others in our coaching business.

The coaching industry is entirely unregulated.
That’s what one writer claimed in a recent article in The Guardian. If you’re been listening to the podcast for a while, you’ll know that I take issue with that characterization.
This week I’m deviating from my scheduled content to talk about Rachel Monroe’s article “I’m a life coach, you’re a life coach: the rise of an unregulated industry.”
Over the past couple of days, I’ve seen this article everywhere. While I don’t agree with it all, the article is thought-provoking, and the critiques outlined in this article bring up several issues which all of us as coaches should be thinking about in our practices.
In this episode, I’m sharing my opinion on the article and the issues it raises, which are very much at the heart of the work that I do.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to effectively marketing your course and growing your audience. Today we’re looking at the questions to ask yourself and different strategies you can use when it comes time to market your course.
If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll know that these coaching calls are some of my favorite episodes because I get to connect with and serve coaches who are making big things happen in their business. I can’t think of a better example of that than Nicole Vaccaro, who joins me on the show today.
With over 10 years of experience working as a licensed counselor, teaching, and supporting people at all stages of their lives and careers, Nicole specializes in helping people create joy in their work lives.
On today’s call, Nicole shares the inspiration and goals behind her new 6-month coaching program which helps people create their dream job roadmap and we explore different approaches she can use in her marketing to bring more students to the course.
If you've been thinking about creating your own course or if you have a course and you're looking for ways to increase your enrollment and get more eyes on what you're doing, then I think you are going to find terrific value in today's episode.

I’m going back to square one.
One of the very first topics I covered on the podcast was breaking down what we mean by “coaching”. We explored several definitions from pioneers in the field, but at the end of the day, I have to admit that I don’t feel like any of them fully represent my approach to coaching.
At first, I remedied that by cobbling together parts of different definitions but as I started writing my next book, I had the audacious idea to create my own definition of coaching. That’s what I’m sharing with you on this episode.
Today we’re talking about why I wanted to expand on the existing definitions of coaching, what it really means to be a Coach with Clarity, and how a Coach with Clarity approaches the coaching relationship.

Most of us have been affected by trauma in some way, whether we ourselves are trauma survivors or through someone we're connected to. That's why I believe that as coaches, it's our ethical obligation to be trauma-sensitive so that we can show up and serve our clients powerfully and safely.
If you're not familiar with the term trauma-sensitive or you're wondering what it looks like to be a trauma-sensitive coach, this episode is for you. I'm joined by Lisa Kuzman, the go-to expert for all things related to trauma-sensitive coaching.
Lisa Kuzman is an outdoor-loving, craft-beer sipping, leadership coach for people of influence who wants to make trauma-sensitive education just as exciting as a 6-figure launch. She is also a former clinical social worker with 15 years of mental health experience. As a trauma survivor herself, Lisa's mission is to share the power of her knowledge and understanding with as many people as humanly possible.
In the course of the episode, we talk about trauma and indirectly reference sexual assault and sexual abuse. This can be a triggering topic so I want to give you the opportunity to choose if, when, and where to listen to this interview.

Mindset work is so much more than uncovering and reframing limiting beliefs.
I have a lot of thoughts when it comes to mindset and I wrote about many of them in my book, ACT On Your Business: Braving the storms of entrepreneurship and creating success through meaning, mindset, and mindfulness. I'm really proud of this book and I also found that since publishing it in 2019, my understanding of each of the three M's has continued to grow and develop.
Today we’re wrapping up our three-part series about the three M's by talking about the third and last M, which is mindset.
As coaches, many of us incorporate mindset work in our client practice and it can be an integral part of our work. I want to take a step back and talk a little bit about what mindset really is and how it's being misused in the coaching industry.

There’s way more to the concept of meaning than just knowing what your values are.
In my book, ACT On Your Business, I wrote about the Three M’s (meaning, mindset, and mindfulness) as the pillars around which you can build a profitable, sustainable business and a joyful, fulfilling life.
Last week, we dove into the first of The Three M’s, mindfulness, and for part two of this series, we’re exploring the concept of meaning in our lives.
In my book and in past podcast episodes, I’ve spent a lot of time identifying and describing our values. While this is important information that we need to have when we are exploring meaning, we can't stop there.
In this episode, I’m sharing the four common mistakes I see when it comes to exploring meaning in our lives and how you can avoid them.

Over the next three weeks, we’re going to be taking a deeper look at The Three M’s: meaning, mindset, and mindfulness, starting with today’s episode on mindfulness.
This series represents an evolution in how I talk about and practice the three M's in my business and my life since I wrote my book, ACT On Your Business: Braving the storms of entrepreneurship and creating success through meaning, mindset, and mindfulness.
When we talk about mindfulness, the first thing that comes to mind is often meditation. And while meditation can be a wonderful mindfulness practice, there are many other ways to practice mindfulness that, for a lot of us, can even be better than meditation.
I’m sharing what mindfulness looks like for me and the mindful experiences I incorporate into my life. I hope you’ll take inspiration from what I’m sharing and find mindful experiences that work for you.

If you’ve been listening to the podcast for a while, and especially if you listened to our Getting Started Series, you know that we have spent a lot of time talking about your coaching niche and how you can really connect with your ideal client.
Today, however, we’re going to approach things from a slightly different perspective.
Rather than look at the questions of what you do, I want to look at through the lens of who you are.
So, in this episode, we’re taking some time to examine the five primary coaching styles and how they relate to the type of coach you want to be.

How you are feeling about your business? If you've lost the energy you used to have for your work, that might be a signal that you've hit a plateau.
Today we're tackling the topic of getting unstuck. We've all experienced that feeling of being stuck. It's a normal part of a growth cycle but when it happens, it can be hard to look at it through that lens. Remember, after every plateau comes the opportunity for growth.
In this episode, I'm talking about what it means to hit a plateau, the telltale signs of being stuck, and techniques we can use ourselves or with our clients to get unstuck and break through to the next phase of our journey.

I am over the moon excited to bring you today's where I had the special opportunity to provide coaching to one of my Coach with Clarity members, Nam Rindani.
Nam graciously agreed to come on the show and share what she is facing in her business. We started out the conversation talking about ways Nam could connect with her ideal clients, but we ended up taking an interesting pivot to the core of her business issue – the process she had wasn’t working for her.
Nam Rindani is a therapist and a coach, and she specializes in supporting ambitious, strong men who have traditionally done very well in their businesses and in their professions, but who are experiencing some difficulties in their relationships are starting to impact their professional performance.
Nam showed up with total transparency and authenticity and her deep desire to show up and serve her clients and her family shows up in everything she does. She is an extraordinary woman and I know there are going to be some key takeaways for you, regardless of where you are in your journey as a coach.

When you’re investing your time, money, and energy into a high ticket program, you deserve to have one-on-one time to ask your questions and explore your concerns.
Those pre-admission calls are vital to fostering the sense of community we want to create within our programs. That’s why I’m confused and, honestly, kind of angry about the growing trend I’m seeing in the online entrepreneurship space advocating against sales calls.
In today’s episode, I’m calling out that growing movement, talking about shifting our mindset around sales calls, why it’s important to connect one-on-one with our members and students through those types of calls and how you can approach them.

Today we’re kicking off the priority enrollment period for the Certified Clarity Coach training program! I am so proud of this program and excited to begin the next cohort on August 23rd.
The Certified Clarity Coach training program is designed as a comprehensive training program that meets you wherever you are in your coaching journey. The program will help you develop your mastery as a coach and understand how to build a coaching business, giving you everything you need to be a powerful and ethical coach.
I believe in the program wholeheartedly and I know it’s a program that can change lives but I also understand that not everyone should pursue certification. It’s really important to me that you have all the information you need to make an informed decision and find a program that meets your needs. So to help you figure that out, in this episode I’m discussing three main questions you should ask yourself to figure out if coaching certification is right for you.

I thought it would be such a fun thing to explore here on the podcast and for me to share what a day in the life of this coach looks like.
For me, every day of the week looks different. Creating themed workdays and time-blocking have been such game-changers and I appreciate having the ability to create that structure for myself. At the same time, I love leaving room in my routines for the magic and having the flexibility that comes with being a coach and having my own business.
In this episode, I’m breaking down exactly how I approach my days and week and the three elements that generally show up every day, regardless of how I've structured it.
I’m sharing this behind-the-scenes look to give you a glimpse of one approach to structuring your work with clients and in your business and it’s by no means meant to be prescriptive. I hope it will serve as inspiration for you to put your own spin on, in your coaching practice.

Every job has its difficult moments and coaching is no different.
I absolutely love coaching, teaching, and connecting with clients and I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else. Even so, there are moments where it feels tough and I wonder if I have what it takes to do it all.
At the end of the day, I know the answer is yes but that doesn’t change the fact that some days are harder than others.
Today, I’m taking a look at some of the challenges I have faced in my own journey as a coach and sharing the strategies you can use to navigate through them.
I hope that by sharing this honest perspective, if and when you find yourself facing these obstacles, you’ll feel more comfortable and know that you can overcome them.

From my perspective, there are three fundamental elements of powerful coaching. In today’s episode, I’m sharing an overview of these three big skills we need to practice and master so that we can be the best at what we do.

If you’ve been wondering about making the transition from therapy into coaching or starting a new group coaching program, this episode is for you.
For today’s coaching call, I’m so excited to introduce you to Courtney Watson, a counselor based on the West Coast with quite a bit of experience providing trauma therapy.
Courtney is interested in creating a group coaching program and on this call we cover quite a lot of ground from whether you need to start with one-on-one coaching, how to differentiate between your therapy and coaching clients, what goes into starting a group program, what you can do to vet potential members for your program, and more.
I’m so grateful to Courtney for sharing what she’s been pondering and giving us a look behind the curtain as she develops her first group coaching program. So much of what Courtney shared reflects what I’ve heard from my clients, members, and students and I think you'll get a lot out of today's coaching call.

As we quickly approach the middle of the year, I have to take a moment to wrap my head around the fact that we’ve already completed five months in the year. It feels like just yesterday that I was celebrating the new year and I was getting all of my ducks in a row for 2021.
Even though it’s gone by so quickly, it’s extraordinary what we’ve accomplished in our businesses with everything that's going on in our world. That’s why I wanted to take this episode to talk about a topic I love - planning and preparing for your business success - and specifically conducting a mid-year review.
I'm going to walk you through the process I use that’s been very helpful for me and my clients and I want you to make it your own. Feel free to use this information as inspiration, to follow it to the letter, or anything between, and spend a little time reflecting on the last six months, and what you want the next six months to look like.

How much of your life should your clients have access to? Where are your boundaries?
Transparency and self-disclosure are important topics for us as coaches. It can be tricky to figure out what’s appropriate because there are serious implications whether we share too much or don’t share enough.
As a coach, your level of transparency with your clients is a very personal decision and there’s no one right answer. Today I’m sharing a series of questions to help you figure out what feels right for you, your clients, and your audience through the lenses of marketing and service delivery.

Coaching calls are a pretty special part of the podcast because they give me an opportunity to connect one-on-one with a listener and provide some targeted coaching to serve them in their business and in their life.
For today’s coaching call, I’m honored to introduce Lisa DeLuca, a talented therapist who has wanted to transition into the coaching profession for years. For a long time, Lisa has had a big vision of how she wants her business to grow. She's held on to those plans for years but there have also been some external and internal obstacles that have emerged along the way, both of which we explore in this call.
Lisa came to this session with such a willingness to go deep and be vulnerable and by the end, both she and I were moved by the journey. This was such a powerful coaching call and I can’t wait to see what Lisa creates next.

Mindset is a topic that gets a lot of attention in the coaching world.
First as a psychotherapist, then as a coach, and as an author, mindset has always been a cornerstone of my work with clients and in my life. But to be honest, with all the years I’ve been doing mindset work, it’s an area where I may have gotten a little complacent.
With that in mind, I decided to take a hard long look at what mindset work really is and how we approach it as coaches. What I found is that while mindset work is unquestionable an integral part of coaching, the ways in which it is being distorted in the coaching profession and entrepreneurial industry at large may actually be causing harm to our clients,
That’s why today we’re exploring what happens when mindset work becomes toxic and the work we need to do as coaches so that we can support our clients in a way that centers and validates their experiences. Doing this is very much in line with our professional and personal development and strengthens our coaching profession. Let’s continue to do this work together!

In your coaching business, your website is an essential tool for connecting with the clients you most want to serve. To help you figure out the best approach to take for your website, I’m joined by today’s guest, Shannon Mattern.
Shannon Mattern is an expert when it comes to designing easy-to-use, easy-to-navigate, and easy-to-create websites. Back in 2016 when I was just starting out, Shannon was the first person I encountered in the world of online entrepreneurship and her 5 Day Website Challenge was the only reason I was able to create my website.
I’m so grateful for the strong foundation she’s helped me build in my business and I credit so much of my business growth and success to her. I wouldn't be doing the work I'm doing today if it wasn't for her programs and I'm so thrilled to share her and her work with you today.

For the past three episodes, we’ve been looking at the different ways you can increase your impact and income by expanding beyond one-on-one services through workshops, memberships, and group programs. For this episode, we’re wrapping up our discussion on scaling small by introducing the spectrum of services.
The spectrum of services is how I conceptualize all the ways we serve our clients, from our free offerings right up to our high-end programs. I much prefer this approach to thinking about our offerings and in this episode, I’m going to share what makes it different from more traditional models, how you can create your own, and what you may want to take into consideration as you are building out your spectrum of services.

Today is part three in our four-part series on scaling small, all about how you can grow and scale your coaching businesses without overwhelm and in a way that promotes sustainable growth. Now that we’ve covered growing your business using a workshop and a membership model, we’re diving into group programs.
If you’ve been here for a while, you know this is far from the first time I’ve talked about groups on the show. I love groups and I think group work is so much fun in a coaching capacity and that's why I want to spend time on the podcast talking about the different ways we can support our clients through groups.
In this episode, I’m sharing the five key elements you need to create and launch a group program that’s aligned with you and your business.

Today I’m thrilled to share my interview with my friend and colleague, Keegan Jennings, the force behind Collab House Digital Marketing.
Over the last six months Keegan has helped me to get my Instagram game on point and what I love the most about working with her is that her approach to social media is anchored in service. So when I was thinking about bringing someone onto the podcast to talk about social media, I knew that Keegan was the perfect fit.
Keegan formally established Collab House Digital Marketing in 2019, after years of providing a wide range of freelance marketing services to small business owners throughout the country. Recognizing that the responsibility of social media strategy and execution fell to the small business owner, who was short on time and at capacity, Keegan was inspired to collaborate with solo entrepreneurs and provide them access to her knowledge and experience.
Keegan shares some serious wisdom about creating a sustainable and effective social media strategy in this interview. I know you’ll find some great takeaways to use in your coaching business.

Scaling small is all about growing your business in a way that allows you to serve more people in less time, all without overtaxing your resources. When we scale small in a manageable, sustainable way, we create processes that are flexible and that can grow with us. That’s how we set ourselves up for long-term success.
For part two of our four-part Scaling Small series, I'm going to walk you through what it looks like to scale small with a membership model.
In the online entrepreneurship space, we often hear about scaling in the context of reaching the masses. While there’s nothing wrong with that model, I would argue that if you want to build a strong foundation for coaching practice, you don’t need to reach thousands of people at once.
Today I’m sharing the four key aspects of a membership program, what you need to consider when creating and launching your program, and why you don’t need a huge email list or following to have a successful, profitable membership program.

For today’s coaching call, I am delighted to introduce you to one of the members of Coach with Clarity, Estrella Rogers. Estrella had some questions about what aspects of her business to delegate and she was gracious enough to agree to explore this juicy topic here on the show.
Estrella Rogers is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the owner of Without Limits Counseling Services. She is also a Registered Play Therapist and Certified Christian Counselor and in the process of transitioning into Relationship Counseling.
For most of us, when we’re starting our coaching practices we wear all the hats. As your business grows, I want you to start thinking about the areas where outside support could help you to continue to grow and thrive by focusing on revenue-generating actions.

We’re back for another one of my favorite types of episodes to share with you!
On this coaching call, I’m having a conversation with Jill Vermeire, an experienced therapist and the founder of Love Rehab and she is an expert in helping people find the relationship of their dreams.
We started our conversation focusing on the logistics of course creation and how Jill can grow her business by offering groups and courses. As we went deeper into the roadblocks she’s experienced, we ended up exploring her mindset and why we need to give ourselves grace and room to grow. As an entrepreneur, that’s a reminder I often need to hear, and I suspect some of you probably need to hear it too.

Those of you who are listeners of the podcast know that coaching calls are one of my favorite types of episodes because of the opportunity to connect with you and help you create change and take the next step in your coaching business. That's exactly what we did on this episode with my guest, Rachel Duncan.
Rachel has an extraordinary background in Business Administration and clinical counseling and she started this call wanting to figure out which road to pursue and how she could honor both.
On our call we went into some of the concrete steps she can take to move forward in her coaching but also how she can follow the energy and find more ease, allowing her to step into this new vision that she's creating for herself. The energy that I felt during this coaching call was practically palpable and I cannot wait to see what she creates next.

Today I am honored to introduce you to a colleague and friend, Alyssa Hall. Alyssa is a certified coach who specializes in supporting other coaches in their work around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). She helps coaches become better allies and works with them to make active anti-racism a foundational piece of their business.
We met several months ago and I really connected with her spirit and energy, the way she views DEI work, and how she supports coaches. In this interview we're breaking down the difference between diversity, equity, and inclusivity, and what it means to be an anti-racist coach.
If you want to deepen your understanding of the principles of DEI and you're ready to do the work in your life, business, and coaching, I can't recommend Alyssa highly enough. I know you are going to love and resonate with her as much as I do.

In last week's episode, we got really clear on how to plan your ideal year in line with your vision, mission, and values. This week, I thought it would be fun to bring it from the long-term into the short-term and look at how we can plan our ideal week.
By taking the goals you've set for yourself down to the weekly level, we'll create the structure that allows you to implement your vision.
Effective planning comes from a highly individualized process. So for this episode, I will be walking you through the process I use to plan my week and I encourage you to take what works and release what doesn't. I'll also share questions you can ask yourself to make sure that your planning strategy works for your business and your lifestyle.
When we can bring the energy of flexibility, curiosity, and openness to our work, then we have a better outcome. I hope you find this strategy to be helpful and feel free to modify it to make it your own.

In today's episode, we're talking about visibility, creating authentic connections, and taking action from a place of clarity. On this coaching call, I had the pleasure of speaking with Charlotte Nicholson who is an expat coach who currently resides in the Netherlands. Charlotte is on a mission to support and coach others through remarkable expat experiences, from the moment the opportunity of a lifetime is put in front of them. She focuses her coaching work on supporting the spouses who are moving frequently, and who may struggle with establishing their identity, whether personal or professional, in their new location. What I especially loved about this chat is that Charlotte already knew much of what she wanted to do and I was able to help her get super clear on the next steps that she's going to take in her business. I suspect that as you listen, it's going to inspire you to take the next steps you want to take in your business as well. I hope you'll come to find me over on Instagram (@CoachWithClarity) and let me know your key takeaways from this call and how it's going to inform the decisions that you make and the actions that you take in your business. I've seen a statistic where upwards of 80 to 90% of people believe that they have a book in them and I would bet that that percentage would be even higher among coaches. When it comes down to it, we're called to serve and positively impact the world so it makes sense that you would want to do that through sharing your story and writing a book that is anchored in the work you do as a coach. Today we're continuing our conversation about how writing a book can serve your coaching business by sharing some of the ways that writing my book, ACT On Your Business, has helped me. We're going to dig deep into how you can leverage your book to grow your coaching practice along with tips I've picked up along the way that can support you in the process. If you're one of the many people who are looking to make 2021 the year you write your book, I hope you find this episode particularly helpful. As a coach, should you write a book? How do you use a book to build your business? Today's episode is going to help you get clear on what it's like to write a book and the steps you need to take to make the most of it. I'm very excited to introduce you to one of my favorite people in the world, Jodi Brandon of Jodi Brandon Editorial. Jodi helps creative entrepreneurs and bloggers craft stellar books no matter what stage of the writing process they’re in, to ensure that their work spotlights their expertise. I worked with Jodi throughout the process of writing my first book, ACT On Your Business, from developing the concept to writing the book and publishing it, and finally putting it out there in the world and marketing it. I hope you find this interview with Jodi to be supportive whether you're considering taking the first steps towards bringing your book into the world or wondering how to leverage an existing book in your business. Today, I'm thrilled to introduce you to Liz Gray. Liz is a therapist and she started Organize and Thrive as her way of sharing her strengths of creativity and organizationwith others. At the start of today's episode, it may not be totally clear why I'm including this in our series on group coaching but by the end, it'll be pretty obvious. This coaching call is so powerful and the transformation that Liz experiences during our call is so inspiring. Let's get right to it! This is the third episode of our four-part series exploring group coaching. In the past two episodes, we've looked at how you can figure out whether group coaching is the right choice for your business and what you need to consider when designing your group coaching program. Now it's time to get personal. I'm sharing the five lessons I've learned (some of them the hard way!) from running group programs. I hope that by sharing these honestly with you, you'll be able to skip over some of them yourself so you can start running group programs effectively from the beginning. I'd love to know which of these lessons resonate the most with you. Find me over on Instagram (@CoachWithClarity) and let me know! This week we're continuing our deep dive into group coaching and I'm thrilled to bring you an interview with one of my dearest business friends and colleagues, Emily Walker. Emily Walker helps fiercely creative thought-leaders turn their big, brilliant ideas into powerful and profitable courses so they can improve thousands of other people’s lives while building more spaciousness into their own. I met Emily several years ago in a group mastermind and since then, I've gotten the opportunity to know her as a client, as a colleague, and as a friend. I can confidently say when it comes to designing programs that your clients will love, there is no one better than Emily at doing that. Through working with Emily, I've able to define and conceptualize the pillars of Coach with Clarity and those have become the basis for everything I create in my brand. When I decided to create this series on group programs I knew I had to bring Emily on so she could share her wisdom with you too. I really hope you enjoy today's interview. At the time of the release of this episode, we're one day away from Election Day, and hopefully the culmination of a prolonged and ugly election season, the effects of which are rippling around the world. Even if you are not American, this affects you too, because we are a global society and what happens with one country affects the others. To add on to the looming uncertainty of the election season, we're in a worldwide pandemic, and in some states and countries, we're even seeing the second peak of cases. While there are precautions we can take, once again, there's still so much left unknown. Now when we combine those with the day to day stress and struggles that many of us face, it can feel so overwhelming. I feel like I'm having to deal with more uncertainty than ever before and I suspect that many of you and your clients feel the same. That's why I wanted to create this episode this week to talk a bit about how we coach our clients through the unknown and also how we can use self-coaching to navigate our uncertainty. I'm sharing things that I've found to be helpful and that I share with my clients but this is certainly not an exhaustive list. I would love to hear from you. What's working for you and your clients? As coaches, our job is to create the container in which extraordinary discovery can occur for our clients. In order to do that, we have to find a balance between providing some routine and expectation, while also creating space for exploration and creativity. A clear structure is an important part of partnering with our clients as it defines both the overall coaching relationship and an individual coaching session and helps us as coaches to gain a sense of confidence and our clients to feel supported. Everything that we're talking about today is at the heart of powerful coaching and is key for us to be confident that when we partner with our client, we are going to co-create something extraordinary. That's why I went into coaching and I know that's why you're interested in it as well. If you want to learn more about the resources mentioned in this episode, visit the show notes.

I'm so excited to welcome you back to another coaching call episode. I know I say this every time but these episodes really are my favorite to do because it allows me to connect one-on-one with another coach and get inside their business to help them see what's working and how they are effectively utilizing their strengths, as well as to help them work through some stuck points and find new opportunities in their business. Today's call is a special one because I am featuring one of my Coach with Clarity members, Kristina Faulkner. Kristina is a licensed health professional specializing in disturbed eating habits, unhealthy body image, anxiety, depression, low self-worth, and strained relationships. Kristina is also a devoted coach who wants to make sure that she's setting herself up for success, because she knows that when she's got clear systems and clear approaches to use with her clients, it's going to allow them to achieve their goals faster, and with more fun and more fulfillment. So that's where we start with today's call and I think you'll find as we get deeper, it goes beyond systems and into really the heart of the work that Kristina loves doing. Today's episode was inspired by one of the members of the From Therapy to Coaching Facebook Group who had a question a lot of coaches do: "Do I really need a niche?" The short answer is, although you don't absolutely need a niche, you probably want one. There are some very successful coaches out there who say that they serve anyone and everyone, however, I strongly believe that having a niche ultimately will support you and support your business. I want to first help you to understand what we mean when we're talking about focusing on a niche and share the things you should consider when selecting your niche and my recommendations on the next steps for solidifying your niche. As always, I'd love to hear from you. What are your thoughts about creating and refining your niche? If you want to learn more about the resources mentioned in this episode, visit the show notes.

Today's coaching call with Naieema the Nutritionista is a fun one as we explored the ways to show up and serve your ideal client by first deeply understanding who they are, where they are, and how you can connect with them in a way that will really resonate. Naieema the Nutritionista is a PhD-Prepared, Registered Nurse and Nutrition Coach who helps the busy, professional woman say bye-bye to diet culture and hello to lasting weight loss and her confidence, without all of the fluff. By combining research-based nutrition information with mindset, she helps women hit their weight loss goals without giving up carbs, without killing themselves in the gym, and without dieting. One of the things I love most about Naieema is her passion for the work that she does and her commitment to showing up and serving her clients. On this call, we dive into her business, talk about getting clear on exactly who it is she wants to serve, and how she can most effectively connect with that ideal client. I have a feeling that if you have questions about attracting and serving your ideal client then this call is going to be for you. I can't wait to hear your thoughts about it. One of the most common questions I'm asked is about the difference between therapy and coaching. As a coach, it's important to understand the differences between the two professions, the overlap between them, and how to know which approach will best serve your client. Today we're zooming in on therapy versus coaching and I hope that whether you are a therapist, a licensed mental health professional, a coach or simply exploring the profession of coaching, you will find today's deep dive to be helpful. My D.E.C.I.D.E. Framework is the six-part framework that I use with my clients, and in my life, to help me make decisions that are grounded in my inner wisdom and aligned with the world around me. When it comes down to it, one of our chief responsibilities as coaches is to support our clients in their decision-making process. Whether that's deciding what they want to talk about in session or how they want to take action on a particular goal, we partner with them so that they feel confident and aligned in the decisions they're making for their business and for their lives. In this episode, I'm going to walk you through each one of the steps, how you can use the framework and I'm also sharing some personal examples of what it looks like to put each step into practice and recommendations to help you make this framework effective. "How much should I share with my clients?" That's a question I get asked a lot by newer coaches and today we're diving right in. It's important to ask yourself this question before you get in session with your clients so you know exactly where your boundaries are with regard to self-disclosure and how to use this tool appropriately. To help you figure it out, we're going to go over some ground rules for self-disclosure in coaching sessions, when it is appropriate to share and then, of course, when it's not appropriate to share. Before we get into today's show, I want to say thank you. I'm really glad to say that I'm doing much better now but those first few weeks after my surgery were pretty rough and I cannot tell you how much the outpouring of love, concern, and support I received from you meant to me and how that helped me in my recovery process. This community has been such a bright light for me and it's my honor to show up every week and serve you through the podcast. This week we're back to normal and I'm going to do a deep dive into one of the most common questions I get asked, which is about coaching certifications. I know many of you are interested in becoming a certified coach and because it is a self-regulating profession, the process can be a bit confusing. There is such a wide variability in the types of certification programs, the investment to obtain them, and the requirements for each. So today I'm going to break down the basics behind coaching certification, and the key factors you should be aware of when deciding whether to become a certified coach. Hopefully, by the end of the show, you will have a little more insight and a little more direction about what is the right path for you. I’m incredibly excited to bring you another coaching call. I absolutely love conducting calls because they give me an opportunity to connect directly with you and to provide some powerful coaching to help you build the coaching practice of your dreams.
Today, I’m delighted to introduce you to a fellow coach and social worker, Melissa Nytko.
Melissa is a consultant, trainer, coach, and a former school social worker. She’s an expert in trauma-informed care; specifically, the physical and mental impact of burnout on the turnover rate of classroom teachers and social workers.
Melissa has a passion for helping educators of all backgrounds avoid burnout and lead fulfilling lives. However, as you’ll hear during this coaching call, Melissa wasn’t quite sure if she had landed on the right niche.
So, during our coaching call, we explored how we can help her feel more secure in who she’s serving and how to create an action plan to help her create traction in her business.

I posted an unplanned picture on my social media accounts a few weeks ago about my CEO day and I received more comments and engagement on that post than I’ve had on any other post in several weeks.
The minute I mentioned I was doing a CEO day, I was flooded with a variety of questions and it became pretty clear that I needed to talk about it here on the podcast.
So, in this episode, I’m walking you through the anatomy of a CEO day.

We're wrapping up our mini-series about coaching through difficult emotions by exploring a big one... SHAME.
Just reading or saying the word allowed is often enough to invoke feelings of embarrassment, brokenness, and unworthiness within us.
And when our clients carry shame with us as a constant companion, it can block them from accomplishing their goals.
That's why in this week's episode, we're taking a close look at shame - what it is, what it's not, what causes it, and how we coaches can help our clients through it.

There's so much going on in the world today that's causing many of us to deal with unwanted or uncomfortable emotions and anger is certainly at the top of that list. For many coaches, anger can be a particularly difficult emotion to support our clients through because it can feel so personal, even though it's merely the client trying to express some pent-up emotions within the context of our coaching session. That's what we're looking at today, in the second episode of my miniseries on coaching through difficult emotions. We're going to explore the types and sources of anger, how to know when it might be time to refer a client to a mental health provider, as well as steps and strategies you can use as you coach your clients through anger. Hopefully, this episode will be a first or continuing step in your journey to deepen your coaching skills and step into the powerful and knowledgeable coach you can be. Right now, there is so much going on in the world and I’m so honored that you would carve time out of your day to spend with me, listening to this show. Thank you so much, it means a great deal to me.
With all that is going on in the world right now, I’ve found both in coaching sessions and with the members of the Coach with Clarity membership, lots of difficult and unwanted emotions are regularly surfacing. I believe every emotion serves a purpose and that whatever we are feeling is okay, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's an emotion that we want to experience. To help us to process these emotions for ourselves and with our clients, I thought it would be helpful to explore them over the course of a few separate episodes, starting with sadness.
So when you're ready, I want you to take a deep breath, buckle up, and let's spend a little time exploring the emotion of sadness, what it is, what it means, how it can potentially serve us, and then as coaches how we can work with our clients to help them break through their sadness, and allow it to inspire action.

What's in a name?
When it comes to your coaching business, a lot!
In fact, one of the most common questions I get from new coaches is how to name their business. Should they use their own name, or come up with something catchy?
Today’s episode was inspired by one of the women who recently participated in my Business Basics for Coaches workshop, who asked me about naming her business. I realized I have a ton to share about this so, I thought today I would kick things off with a story about my experience naming my business and offers as a new coach and all the mistakes I made along the way to Coach with Clarity.
I'm going to walk you step by step through each one of my errors and my suggestions for what you can do instead so that you can choose a name that works. And for my experienced coaches who already have a business name that isn’t quite right? Not to worry, I’ve been there, and I’ve got you covered too! If you can learn from my mistakes, I am happy to share them with you.

This episode is going to be a little different now that we’ve finished with my Getting Started series. So far, we’ve been focused on the foundation of the business of coaching and many of you have reached out to me to share the amazing results and shifts you’re seeing in your coaching practices. I’ve loved hearing about your experiences and I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to connect with you!
Today I want to talk to you about something that comes up a lot once we start to see real traction in our businesses. People start reaching out, wanting to work with you and after the initial happy dance, you might hear a little voice planting seeds of self-doubt.
Rest assured, you’re not alone - I’m yet to meet a coach who has never experienced this. Experienced coaches aren’t immune either. I have internal messages that creep up from time to time, especially when I’m about to take a big step forward so today I want to share some strategies I love that you can use to combat these top three mindset blocks. Whether you’re a novice coach or you've been coaching for decades, I suspect you're going to find value in this episode.

Here in the United States, and really all over the world, we are still very much embroiled in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd.
We are seeing countless people rise up to demand action and to demand justice. We are having more conversations about racial inequality, what it means to be anti-racist and what it means to be an ally.
That’s why I want to share with you a conversation I had a little over a year ago that was recorded for my first podcast; Work Your Inner Wisdom.
I had the honor of interviewing my friend and colleague Erica Courdae. Erica is an expert in diversity, equity and inclusion. She is a coach. She is a business owner. And she is an extraordinarily wise human being. She is exactly who we all need to be listening to, learning from and whose voice needs to be amplified right now.
Erica encourages entrepreneurs to embrace diversity and use conversation as a catalyst for change.
Through her website and her podcast, Pause on the Play, Erica raises important questions about equality and inclusivity in the workplace and in our own lives.
In our interview, Erica and I talk about showing up for one another, being “imperfect allies” to the marginalized, and how we can take steps in the direction of equality in our own businesses.

We're pausing the Coach with Clarity Podcast this week to stand in protest of racial injustice and in solidarity with People of Color (POC) who deserve better.
In this episode, you'll hear an excerpt from an email and social media post I shared on May 30th about what it looks like to work towards being an anti-racist coach and human being.
In future episodes of the Coach with Clarity podcast, we will be exploring what anti-racist coaching means, and how we can actively incorporate anti-racist approaches in our coaching and in our businesses.
But for now, I encourage you to fill your feed with voices of color, and these are good places to start:
Pause on the Play with Erica Courdae
Business Remixed with Trudi Lebron
That's Not How That Works with Trudi Lebron and Louisa “Weeze” Doran
Hello Seven with Rachel Rodgers
It’s time to center the POC experiences and voices.
This is the first step in showing the world what it means to be a Coach with Clarity.
I'm so happy that you are joining me for another coaching call! These episodes are some of my very favorites because it allows me to give you a taste of the behind the scenes work in a coaching practice.
This hot seat coaching session was with one of my Coach With Clarity members, Dr. Lisa Battle-Gwathney. In the session, Lisa went from wanting to clarify her ideal client profile, to diving into mindset issues around visibility, to addressing those issues and creating an action plan she is aligned with that will help her to move forward. I'm so grateful to Lisa for allowing me to share it with all of you.
Lisa Battle-Gwathney is a mindset/mindfulness coach who supports highly educated women in living intentionally with balance. Lisa began her career as a licensed psychologist and continues to practice within her private practice.
I took a lot from this session with Lisa and I know you will find a lot of helpful nuggets you can apply as you continue to build your own practice.

These first 13 episodes of the podcast have been all about the fundamentals of building your coaching practice and, with this episode, we’re officially wrapping up what I’ve been affectionately calling the Getting Started Series.
In this final installment of the series, I thought it might be helpful if I walked you through some of my very favorite tools that I use in my own coaching practice to keep everything running smoothly and the tools that I recommend for my clients as well.

If you’ve been putting into practice everything we’ve talked about in the podcast up to this point, then you’re probably starting to generate some interest in your coaching work. And, while that’s exciting, it can also be a little intimating if you don’t know what to do next.
Luckily for you, that’s exactly what I’ll be covering in today’s episode. I’m going to share my advice on what to do when someone says they’re interested in learning more or they know someone else who might be interested in what you’re offering.

As I’m sure you know from your own experiences, it doesn’t feel good when we’re being pitched to or sold to in a way that doesn’t honor our role in the process.
Now, to be quite honest with you, I almost called this episode, “How to Connect with Your Audience and Promote Your Coaching Services Without Being Salesy.” I decided to change the wording because, frankly, there are some coaches out there who need to be more salesy.
If you’re in business, sales is a part of what you do. That’s just how it is. You need revenue coming in to keep your business going.
So, what I want to do in this episode is explore how we can approach sales from a place of integrity so we can be salesy without being sleazy.

I know the idea of starting a coaching business in the midst of a global pandemic can be unnerving, but one of the many great things about offering virtual coaching services is that our businesses can still go on in a relatively normal manner. I’m even seeing this with my own business.
I’ve had to make a few tweaks, like recording this episode at my husband’s dental practice since quieter than my home at the moment, but it’s pretty much business as usual for me.
So, with that fear aside, let’s dive into how you find coaching clients for your business.

I have a special treat for you - you’re getting a sneak peek inside the Coach with Clarity membership program!
Today you have a front-row seat to see what one of our monthly hotseat coaching calls looks like. In the hotseat, you can receive dedicated coaching right from me and on this episode, I’m talking with Coach with Clarity member, Kate Solis Silva about creating an aligned offer. Kate was also kind enough to come back for a follow-up call so we could go even deeper and talk about pricing.
Kate Solis Silva is the epitome of what it means to be a heart-centered, holistic, and results-oriented coach. She focuses on empowering mid-career professionals to overcome their internal roadblocks so that they can connect with their inner wisdom, stop settling and start thriving in their work and their lives.
My work with Kate is a great example of how to implement what we talked about in episodes 6 and 7, so I know you are going to get so much from listening to this session. I can’t wait to hear what insights you pull that you can apply to your practice.

Last week, we did a deep dive into creating and conceptualizing your coaching offer. If you missed that episode, I highly encourage you to listen to it before checking this episode out.
This week, we’re continuing our Getting Started Series with a topic that I know many of you have questions about and that’s why I’m thrilled to explore how to price your coaching offer.
As part of this conversation, we’re looking at what goes into setting your rates and the three important aspects you need to consider when you are setting your prices for your coaching offer.

We’ve spent a lot of time on the podcast exploring how to start coaching and how to connect with your ideal clients, and now I have something even more juicy for you!
We’re going to explore the steps you need to take in order to create a coaching offer for your ideal clients so they can start working with you in a paid capacity.
In this episode, I’m taking the conventional wisdom and strategy around this topic and flipping it on its head by walking you through what I was taught about creating coaching offers and then explaining what I think should be done differently.

We’re trying something a little different in this episode and I’ve been so excited to share it with you!
Today, you’re going to get a peak behind the scenes of a one-on-one coaching session I conducted with one of my Coach with Clarity members, Sheila Tucker, where we worked together to help her gain more clarity on her niche and who she most wants to serve as a coach.
Sheila is a coach, consultant, therapist, and writer living in South Carolina. She helps creatives with an entrepreneurial spirit to create business opportunities that honor and align their values without feeling depleted and overwhelmed.
I wanted to share this with you because I know there are going to be little gems and insights that you’ll be able to pull from our session and use in your own coaching practice.

In this first episode of the series, I’m discussing the very first thing prospective coaches ask themselves and that’s how to become a coach.
I feel very passionate about this topic because there are multiple paths you can take and each one has their own pros and cons. I believe it’s incredibly important for you to know the options available to you so you can choose the right one for you.

I’m so excited to help you answer the question of whether you’re meant to be a coach or not. Deep down, I suspect you already know the answer. That’s why you’re here checking out this podcast and that tells me that, yes, you probably are meant to be a coach.
But I still think it will be helpful for me to do a deep dive into the five qualities and traits that successful transformational coaches embody and that’s exactly what I’m doing in this episode.

That’s why we’re starting with a little Coaching 101 in this episode. We’re going to talk about what coaching is, we’re going to compare it to some other helping modalities, and we’re to explore when it’s appropriate to combine some of those modalities.
