—I've been struggling with the politics of this pandemic. I have family members who are severely at risk of COVID-19. What should we think of politicians that are trying to open churches and other areas of life too soon, almost to pander to the Christian base. Especially when these decisions will inevitably lead to a second wave.
—If we aren't allowed to come to church, but only in certain numbers and by having limitations placed upon the church in order to worship...are we not experiencing a type of persecution?
—If separation of church and state is so prevalent in our government, as a child of God should we still have separation of church and state?
—Why are so many Christians passionate about abortion, but less interested in the lives that are already being lived?
—How do I know the balance of standing up for what I believe in on social media, opposed to just staying out of the mess?

Jesus describes some people as sheep and others as goats. From a distance, they look the same, but on closer inspection they’re not! On a planet where 2 billion people claim to be Christians, can we assume they’re all legitimate? What about the deep differences in belief between Christians? Or what about the conduct of people who claim to be Christians but don’t seem to be very much like Christ?

There are few words as prevalent in the Christian vocabulary as “sin.” Sin, we’ve been told, is a very serious matter, grievous, offensive to God. We’ve also been told that people who don’t acknowledge their sin, can’t be forgiven. But what does “sin” really mean as God defines it? By New Testament times, the long-held practice of Sabbath had become about control, restriction, and deprivation—which is the only kind of Sabbath we know. But Jesus reminds us that Sabbath was intended for our good as a means to bless us, not control us.

For most of us, there’s no difference between the two, but the tithe is God’s established tipping point where generosity becomes truly transformative and the blessings become numerous.

Jesus chose to spend his life walking, as a nomad, teaching life-giving lessons with whatever happened along the way. It seems quaint in our modern day, when we have access to unlimited forms of high-speed transportation. But perhaps Jesus was showing us something powerful about the simple practice of walking—in faith and expectation.
