This week we have a psydub mix comprising of tunes released mostly over the past few months with one or two from a year or so back for chilled out dubby goodness. It's a very relaxing mix this one so if you are a fan of the slower, trippy bass sounds this might be a good one for you. A few compilation albums I can highly recommend from this mix include the remix album "Multidimensional Sandcastles Remixed" from Living Light and the remix album "A Path Beyond Remixed" by Encounters. Both albums feature a plethora of amazing artists on remix duty and not a single one disappoints !

Here is something a little different. Just finished up this psychedelic rendering of a Nike Air Jordan basketball shoe. I like how this one turned out and kind of wish I could actually see a real version of this ! Maybe through the magic of 3D printing someday.

It's been a while since I've posted any art here on this blog so I thought I'd share some recent creations that I've been uploading to a new YouTube channel.

If you like psychedelic art or any kind of art with a colorful trippy vibe to it you might find my channel interesting. I'll try to post new art there on a regular basis so if you like watching along to these art timelapse videos then why subscribe to the channel to stay up to date with new art as I upload.

Most of the art of the channel is created with Copic markers and Prismacolor pencils which is a combination I really enjoy as it allows me to create detailed, colorful art without all the mess and space requirements of acrylic or oil paint.

The first drawing is a psychedelic octopus. This took about 10 hours to draw in total. I really enjoyed the organic free flowing style in this one and the trippy color combination were a lot of fun to render too. I also experimented with using the Copic various ink refill bottles for an abstract drip art background.

Next is a small trippy drawing of some magic mushrooms that turned out really well with some vibrant psychedelic color combinations. This took longer to draw than I expected as it was quite detailed in parts. It was a rewarding experience though as it allowed me to test some new paper I had recently purchased. I'm not too fussed about paper and tend to use the cheapest I can find that blend Copic markers well enough. However this new paper, produced by .Too, the same company which makes Copic markers, has made me rethink my stance on paper as it was so nice to draw on ! Perhaps I'll save this more expensive paper for particularly special projects.
Finally I'd like to share this psychedelic Homer Simpson fan art drawing I did. This was my first attempt at drawing anything in a cartoon style. What do you think ? I started this off by doing a freehand sketch of a drooling Homer then added various surreal elements over the top. After transferring the initial sketch I then did the lineart with some copic multiliners and then colored. I really dig this drawing so I plan to do some more trippy cartoon style art in the future.

Is this some kind of trick of the light ? Two mixes in just under two weeks ? Yes indeed friends ! Thanks for all the feedback on the last mix over at Mixcloud and around the SNSverse. I missed hearing from you all too. So much love and heartfelt thanks to you all for taking the time to check it out. Today I'd like to present a mix of psychedelic dub (psydub) tunes that have been showing me some lockdown love these past few months. Most of these tracks were released over the past year or two.

All these songs are brilliant in the own way however I would like to highlight a few particularly special numbers.

First the mix kicks off with a track from UK based artist Spatialize. The UK has a fine history of psychedelic dub artists ( well, all dub genres really ) all the way back to the early days of Twisted Records and Liquid Sound Design. Spatialize is continuing the trend with his deep bass driven mystical journeys. Check out his brilliant album "Beyond The Radar" for plenty of fine chillosophy. One of my favorite tracks of his is the remix he did of Ooze's track "Quintessence". What happened to Ooze ? Last I heard he was teaching some kind of music mentoring program. It's a real shame he never followed up that classic "Where The Fields Never End" release with another Ooze album.We also have another Geoglyph psydub track this time. And why not ? He is certainly one the essential up and coming artist to be following these days. This time out he remixes "Curled Up Dimensions" by Key-G. You can get a real sense of what a fine musician he is from this remix. Perfectly placed rippling squelches, dub stab chords and that amazing vocal rise will transport you into an another time and space. One last track to mention is the Kuba remix of Youth and Gaudi's track "Empress Of The Tarot" from the Youth/Gaudi collaboration "Astronaut Alchemists Remixes". A superb album featuring remixes from the likes of Kaya Project, Banco de Gaia, Pitch Black and The Orb to name but just a few. There are 15 or more or tracks on offer. The Double CD sold out in no time but you can still get the digital release through the Liquid Sound Design bandcamp site. A limited edition 12" vinyl EP of some selected remixes is also on offer now so don't miss out if vinyl is your thing. Thanks for listening in. Well, well, well. How are you ? It's been a while. Too long in fact. But that's life I guess - no matter how honest your intentions, life has a way of making other plans. That's not to say that's something to bemoan. It just points to the fact that life is, on the whole, ever changing and unpredictable.

What is predictable however is that the music contained in this episode of the PsyAmb podcast is pure psychedelic bliss. So kick back and take a ride with some of the best tunes to be tickling my eardrums over the past few years.

Some highlights in this mix include a few tracks and remixes from Desert Dwellers from their amazing album Breath. Be sure to check it out if haven't yet done so.

There is an awesome track from the super talented The Flying Mars, surely one of the most underrated artists out there. He gets better and better with each release. His latest release, Cosmochemistry is full of psychedelic treats.

Finally, from the mighty pairing of Globular and Geoglyph we have a track from their brilliant album Messages From The Resonator. The album features cover art from myself ! The process of designing the art for the album was a real joy and something I will talk more about in a future post.

Hello and apologies to all you listeners out there for the lack on activity. Things around here have been fairly hectic to say the least. I'm delighted to be able to present another mix after a six month drought. I've kept this one short and sweet. A one hour long juicy sandwich of psychedelic goodies. All gorilla no chinchilla as they say.

This mix takes in tunes I've been listening to since the last mix back in May. I highly recommend checking out the latest release from Entheogenic. It' such a beautiful album and has been on heavy rotation here at PsyAmb HQ.

Hello. It's good to be back. After the birth of our second son it's fair to say that time has become a precious commodity in our house. Finding a spare few hours to get a mix together is challenging to say the least. As the new bub approaches his fifth month on earth things are beginning to settle down. So, somehow among all those nappy changes, late night battle cries and general play time I've cobbled together this mix of psychedelic dub for your listening pleasure.

In the mix I share some music that has been tickling my fancy over the last 12 months or so. There are lot of tasty treats on offer so be sure to follow up on the artists involved and show your support to these amazing musicians.

While doing some organizing around home I recently re-discovered an interesting book I picked up some years ago at a second hand book shop here in Osaka. Titled Aquirax Uno Posters 1959-1975, it contains a number of cool psychedelic designs from Japanese artist Akira Uno. Uno was most prolific in the 1960s and 1970s where his trippy illustrations were used in theater stage event advertising. He also did logo and fashion advertising for a number of boutiques in and around Tokyo. Here are a number of posters from the book I scanned in. I like his simple line work which is somewhat reminiscent of the work of Western 60's psychedelic artists. Many of his posters display sexual themes that were perhaps more openly accepted in Japan than the advertising standards allowed in the USA/Europe at the time.

This week we have a psychill mix that includes themes of space exploration, galactic transmissions and other worldly communications. It starts off in a slow ambient fashion before later building up to a hyper-drive driven blast of progressive chill beats.

After last week's odd little pop dub covers diversion its back to regular programming here at the PsyAmb blog with a fresh new psybient mix. There is nothing I like more than a good solid bass with twisted synth melodies and this mix has plenty on offer.

We kick off with a slice of heavy psybient bass with the track "Vera" from the compilation album "Blue Moon". This is a surprising collaboration between Mahaon and Vlastur. It's top notch tune and none the less than one would expect from Mikelabella Records. Label DJ Johnny Blue has compiled some awesome compilation albums for the label over the years so check out the label's back catalogue for more excellent goodies.

We then move onto "Green Poison", the opening track on Spanish duo Green Beat's second album "The Moon Antidote" which was one of last year's standout albums. I like how this one has an old school goa flavor to it - especially with those voice samples. Sensational tune that sounded breathtaking when I played it at an outdoor festival earlier this year in the hills of Kyoto.

After that we have Seamoon ( Simon Neumann ) . This guy is always quality. Today's tune comes from a recent compilation release titled "Compilation Tracks Vol 2" which is essentially a 4-track release of songs that appeared on past compilation albums. Still, its nice to have them together in a single releases. He also has a brand new EP out titled "Crystal Language" which sounds marvelous.

Next is a new artist to my ears. Tribalicious is a duo comprising of is the Bastiaan Swager and Sam David. Their music contains "a multitude of organic sound healing instruments blended with cosmic beats, natural spheres and spacious synthesized soundwaves" accorinding to their bandcamp page. I would have to agree with that thought process. Wide, spacious and glorious , their music evokes a feeling of ancient tribal trance rituals.

Following on then we get to Wakhan ( Alejandro Pantoja ) a Bolivian producer based in Spain. He has been producing tracks, mostly psytrance, for quite a number of years. This track comes from what I believe is his debut album - "Mystical Encounter" - which was released just a few days ago. It's well worth giving it a listen - every track is great with about a 50/50 mix of psytrance and psybient tunes on offer. I especially like the opening tune "A.I Data Fields". If he keeps putting out music like this he is going to be in much demand around the world.

I then mixed in a track from Pete Ardron's new album "Unexpected Pleasures" which I reviewed in my previous post. You can read that online here. Realistically I could have chosen any of the track to put in this mix. I've gone with "Bridges" this time because it's a little bit more upbeat and fits the overall flow of this mix best.

One of the best psytrance/psybient compilation albums you will hear is the Hadracadabra series released by Hadra Productions. They are now up to volume 6, from which the next tune comes. Kaya Project needs no introduction to regular listeners here and I'm sure you will all dig this tune "The Seventh Citadel" - a typically classy slice of tribal chillout from the musical maestro.

Our next artist, J.P Illusion ( John Panagoulias ) has been producing tunes for around a decade now and has a great amount of psydub influenced tracks you should check out. He has appeared on many top compilations and is also an accomplished psytrance producer. This track comes from a two track EP titled "When Night Falls" released earlier this year on German label Blue Tunes Chillout.

One label that has been building a loyal fan base recently is the UK's Visionary Shamanic Records. Certainly one of my favorite labels at the moment. They are putting out some really progressive sounds you are not likely to hear elsewhere so check them out for something a little more challenging. The next tune comes from VSR's album "Ancient Forest Dub Remixed", a remix album of psytrance tunes mixed into psybient/psydub tracks by The Elder ( a.k.a Mahaon ). If you like the feel of this one be sure to check out the awesome follow up album released last month.

The fourth episode of "Ethneomystica" was released in April this year and once again Mystic Sound Records have delivered the goods with a solid all encompassing psychedelic chillout adventure. Featuring many established psybient acts such as Hinkstep, Iacchus, Easily Embarrassed and label manager Maiia, the album is, in my opinion, the best in the series yet. For this mix I have chosen the HuuHaa track "Grapevine Drums". Finnish duo HuuHaa previously made an appearance here way back in episode 70 ( one of my favorite mixes ) so it's great to hear from them again. The boys have a new album out too - Starizona which is a great collection of downtempo,psybient,psydub and tribal sounds released through Belgian label GreenTree Records.

Thorazin ( Alex Urias ) from Mexico is name you may not be so familiar with. He has been uploading tracks on Soundcloud for a couple of years. A mixture of psybient, bass and experimental stuff. After a great track on the Looney Moon Experiment album "Experiments Vol 1" he is back with a new album out titled "Stream Enterer" on Triple Drop Productions. It's currently a name your price release on Bandcamp. Show some love and send some good vibes the way of this talented new producer. Oh, if you think Stream Enterer is an odd name for an artist then you might find this little tidbit interesting.

Okay, getting towards the end now and we have the mighty Ozric Tentacles with a track off their latest release "Technicians Of The Sacred", their 100th studio album ! Just kidding, but yes - they have a truck load of albums. Anyway this is another great release from OT and here is a nice little review you can read over at Prog Archives. By far the best album they have done in quite some time. Great cover art on this one too by Natan Lenski ( aka Mantismash ) !

This is then followed by another new artist to me - Sharkweek. New to me, but not to others as this tune was released back in 2010 on the album Shark N Taties Remixed. Its a pretty cool tune - kind of a cinematic dub/bass track. Actually all his music is well worth checking out on New Zealand label "Electrode Records". Both Sharkweek and label seem to have gone MIA since 2010 in terms of musical output. If anyone knows what they are up to please drop a mail as I'm really getting into this guys tunes, albeit somewhat belatedly.

2016 has seen the release of many great albums and one that sits in my top ten would have to Charade by Supersillyus. If you dig Shpongle and Younger Brother then you should definitely pick this album up. Many of the songs share similar structures to Shpongle/YB even right down to the puntastic track names ! It's also a bit tongue in cheek too which is much appreciated. For today I've gone with the song "Aeon Bahamut" - a spiraling psybient tune with some samples from The Onion's classic marijuana smokers parody.

We finish off this mix with "EastWest Land" by Greek producer Naturelement from the album "Ingrained" on Russia's Mystic Sound Records again. Speaking of Shpongle - Naturelement also has shades of the Shpongle sounds these days too. Check out his tracks "Current Dreams" or "A Way To Find A Sunray" for instance. Ingrained is a lovely album and another of my favorites for 2016 so check it out for plenty more psychedelic shenenigans.

Right now, as I'm writing this, I'm siting in the waiting room of Oiki Ladies Clinic in south Osaka. My wife, a few doors down the hall, is currently in labor with our second child, another boy. Previous experience tells me I'm in for a long wait before the doctor's let me into the delivery room.

However, this time I've come prepared. A backpack of assorted snacks, a book of jokes to keep my spirits up in the wee hours and Pete Ardron's new album loaded on my phone. These should see me through to the finish line.

Titled "Unexpected Pleasures", the album is a real delight and I'm glad it will be forever associated with the birth of our new boy.

Pete Ardron, for those not familiar with the man, is a British electronic musician, producer, mixer, DJ and artist. He has an extensive back catalogue of work as a solo artist and as a member of various groups including the wonderful Orchid-Star.

Unexpected Pleasures was over ten years in the making and his 10th solo album overall. It's an album with an exotic blend of tribal percussion, ethno-ambient vocals, and plenty of spiritually uplifting melodic highlights. A highly polished gem, each song sparkles with exotic otherworldly ambience. Think Kuba meets Abakus meets Kaya Project. A holy trinity of blissful psychedelic tribal chill out.

If you have listened to any of Ardron's older work you will instantly recognize a big jump in production values with this latest release. While his music has always displayed a talent for writing and crafting an interesting song, production values on earlier releases were somewhat flat. Fast forward to 2016 and what you hear from Pete today is on a par with any of the top producers in the electronic music game.

The album begins with the track "Angel". A very Kuba/Abacus like sounding track as we often got on those old Liquid Sound Design comps Youth was putting out back in the early to mid 2000s. Extremely relaxing ethno-psychill. The second track "Vignette" is in much the same vein. Deep bass, Indian flavored harmonies and instrumentation provide a relaxing backdrop for a sunny day.

On the third track, "Bridges", the album gets more upbeat with faster percussion, lounge keys and eastern vocals. One is reminded somewhat of Talvin Singh from his "Ok" album days. Which is not a bad things at all. Loved that album back in the day. Very cool tune.

The fourth track bears the same name as the album. I usually take that as a sign the artist considers this tune to be the best on the album. Although it doesn't command your attention as much as other songs on the album it possesses a subtle beauty that is to be appreciated. Dreamy, enchanting music. If this track sounds familiar then you may well have heard it before on the compilation album "Diversity In The Isles" released earlier this year. This track is then followed by some outstanding vocals on the next track "Mera Dil".

Mera Dil in Hindi language means "My Heart" and this tunes pulses along with a life force all of its own. Classically trained Indian singer Psibindi sounds like an alluring goddess here. She has performed with plenty of top producers and vocalists over the years so be sure to check out her website for more info if you like this one.

The next track, "Dhow", is a slow, meandering river of deep dub delight tinged with a groovy guitar riff in parts. This is definitely my kind of tune. I really love that heady reverb on the snare, creating a sense of being caught up in the vacuum of space. Dig it !

With its uplifting backbone of reggae guitar stabs, floating flutes and laughter samples, the next track sure does leave a smile on your face. Titled "Hasya", the Sanskrit word for laughter,fun and amusement, it delivers a delightfully playful escape into childlike wonderment.

The most lyrical of the album, "Ami Tha Thikana Rakhini", has a rather cool growling synth bass coupled with a galloping rhythm. The vocals this time are provided by Ardron's ex-housemate Sayak Mitra. The original version of this song was a hit Bengali pop song back in the 1960s for singer Manna Dey, and one of Mitra's favorite childhood songs. Ardron recorded his friend singing an A capella version of the track and then turned it into this tasty reworking. I would have liked a longer version - the groove is so infectious. At a touch under three and a half minutes it just wets the appetite. Possible future extended remix ?
After that we have something less tribal, more of a lush landscape of spiraling synths and ethereal atmospheres. The way it builds into an explosion of emotion reminds one of "Queen Of All Everything" or "Shower Of Sparks" by Ott . Which happen to be two of my most favorite Ott tracks. So this one slips down an absolute treat too.

The final track Bamiyan, closes off the journey with a celebratory mood. Strings, sitars, chants, flutes all dancing around a fire of of mystic exhilaration.

This is a fantastic album and one not to be missed by fans of tribal, ethno chillout. There are plenty of guest appearances here too. So be sure to check them out as well to continue your journey into a land of unexpected pleasures.

There are few artists in the electronic music scene that can claim to have released 10 solo albums. Fewer still who can stand proud knowing that their 10th is as fresh and exciting as anything they have ever released. Well done Mr Ardron, it seem with both have something magical to celebrate ! As an avid music collector I come across a fair amount of electronic music that doesn't quite fit into the usual categories I produce here on the PsyAmb blog. A lot of those track I put into a mix series I call Nokorimono ( see the mix archive for more details ) to create a more general chillout mix. Today's mix is not a Nokorimono mix, however it is certainly out of the scope of the psybient, psydub and ambient genres I usually mix.

I'd like to share with you an eclectic mix of pop/rock dub cover versions. I have loads of this stuff. A lot of it is dreadful, however there are a bunch that are really well done. So I've poured through my collection with a fine cheese filter and come up with a number of interesting tunes. The sound quality of some of the older tracks is not quite up to modern standards so please be forgiving with me there.

I hope there is a tune or two that you find interesting here. Thanks for listing as always.

British psychedelic dub producers Ott and Globular are two of my favorite musicians when it comes to psydub. I've been following both artists since before their debut albums hit and I hope to be enjoying their evolving sounds well into old age.

For this mix I've selected a number of tracks from each artist's albums without the use of any remixes.

Both Ott and Globular have an extensive, superb sounding remix collection. There are plenty of tracks where they have remixed other artists, as well as having been remixed themselves. To the best of my knowledge they have not remixed each other though !

Anyway, as I say, this is purely album based tracks here, so if there is anything you like the hear of be sure to check out their albums.

Simon Posford and Raja Ram, the psynamic duo that make up Shpongle, have been twisting our brains for the past two decades with their field reports on the psychedelic experience expressed through the art of psychedelic electronic music.

How time has flown, and what a flight it has been. From the timeless classic of their debut album "Are You Shpongled ?" to the dark hidden spaces of their fifth album "Museum Of Consciousness", Shpongle have grown into a worldwide phenomenon on the psychedelic music scene.

As a tribute to celebrate getting truly Shpongled for the past 20 years I present here my all time favorite best Shpongle songs. These are listed in chronological order ( release order ) and represent a selection of my overall top 10 tunes by Shpongle.

1. And The Day Turned To NightAlbum : Are You Shpongled ?

Not so many psychedelic chillout songs can claim an eight minute build up. Hell, most songs are done and buried by then. Not this monster of a tune. And The Day Turned to Night is a modern masterpiece of song making that is, as much as I hate to say it, yet to be bettered by Shpongle. I might be biased as I do love long songs and this one clocks in at an extravagant 19 minutes.

That's 19 minutes of some of the best electronic music you will here in you life mind you. Layer on layer of psychedelic sound in continually peeled away and added across a vast universe of bliss. When questioned about his favorite Shpongle track Posford chose this very song. One listen and you'll understand why.

1. Divine Moments Of Truth (aka DMT)Album : Are You Shpongled ?
   While "And The Day Turned To Night" may be considered the most ambitious tune on the their debut album, DMT is the true fans favorite. It's certainly one of mine too. When the DMT-LSD-Doo-Dee-Doo-Daa-Waa-Woo processed voice sample comes in you are taken on a magical carpet ride through the infinite, spirally corridors of a DMT trip complete with magical singing elves.

I once emailed Simon to ask how he came up with that trippy voice and it turns out it was just some free Mac plug in he used to get the effect. Just goes to show that its not the tools but what you do with them that counts.

I think what I really love about DMT is the last two minutes. The song rises up and breaks through a wall into a voice exclaiming "Okay!" as if saying here we are, you have arrived now let me show you what its all about.

1. Once Upon The Sea Of Blissful Awareness
   Album : Tales of the Inexpressible

One of the most haunting and melancholic psychedelic songs you will ever hear, Once Upon The Sea perfectly demonstrates Shpongle's ability to produce beautiful, stripped back music. The touching vocals from Abigail Gorton, with backing from the ever present Michelle Adamson have been known to reduce people to tears as they float in and out across an endless ocean of dreams.

1. Around The World In A Tea Daze
   Album : Tales of the Inexpressible

“…we can take this huge universe, and put it inside a very tiny head. We fold it…” so begins the sermon on the Da MounT that is "Around The World In A Tea Daze". Biblical in scope, this tune combines all the best bits of Shpongle - the time signature changes, memorable quirky samples, driving bass lines, melodic synth shenanigans, emotive builds and stunning percussion into one colossal tune.

   Album : Tales of the Inexpressible

I'm fortunate enough to have been in the middle of a frenzied dance floor at a dusty outdoor festival in Australia when Posford played an extended version of this song. The crowd went absolutely f$#%ing mental !

The smiles on the faces of the people me around on that packed floor were as wide as the horizon itself. The elated feeling everyone felt that day is a memory that will live with me forever. The growling synth line in the second half of the tune harks back to that classic gnarliest synth sounds Posford used in his 1995s "Hallucinogen" album.

1. When Shall I Be Free / Stamen Of The Shamen
   Album : Nothing Lasts…But Nothing Is Lost

Shpongle's third album was rumored to be their last. With the title "Nothing lasts...but nothing is a lost" ( a line originally attributed to William Blake, used by Terence McKenna and then sampled by Shpongle ) it's easy to see why such rumors might spread. If it was to be their last, Shpongle certainly decided to go out in a decidedly different fashion. Sure there was still the crazy Shpongleness about it but what surprised fans was that every track, 20 of them, was only an average 3 minutes long !

What this actually forced you to do was listen to the album as a whole as each track feed into the next. A master stroke of production ? In reality, Shpongle has admitted to making a mistake with the track splitting which led to the shortened tracks. It must have been quite challenging for Raja to come up with all those track names !

So with that in mind, I've gone with these two tracks as if they were originally intended as a whole single track. With its "When shall I be free ? When I shall cease to be ? No more I but we in perfect harmony" mantra we are given a shot of celestial introspection in the first song and then a sultry siren's seductive seance in the second half sends your brain into blissful ecstasy.

1. I Am You
   Album : Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland

"I'm always taking that extra little bit too much" says who I assume is Raja Ram under some processed vocals towards the end of I Am You - one of Shpongle's most polished gems in the glittering box of psychedelic jewels that is their fourth album.

Just what he is taking too much of is a mystery - DMT ? LSD ? THC ? Time ? Fibre ? Whatever it is, I Am You is a song you can never get enough of. The vocal refrain "I am you and you are me - I'll always be with you" lives long in the memory well after this spiraling, hallucinatory brain worm has ended.
08. Invisible Man In A Fluorescent Suit
Album : Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland

A beautiful orchestral opening gives way to a playful melody over delicate cascading arpeggios. The second half of this song really shines with a soaring atmosphere as if one has become a bird in flight, flying over the treetops looking down from above. The samples towards the end are of interest too - not often you here people say "shit" in a psychedelic dub tune.

1. The Aquatic Garden Of Earthly Delights
   Album: Museum of Consciousness

There is a feeling of tension in this song. A dark, foreboding and accelerated panic that is preset throughout Shpongle 5th album "Museum Of Consciousness". I don't know if that atmosphere was intentional or not but its certainly something many fans have noticed and commented on. Lots if Raja's lovely flute work here again and a more than subtle tribute to David Lynch's Twisted Peaks if I'm not mistaken.

1. Tickling The Amygdala
   Album : Museum of Consciousness
   A slow, dubby delight with a hint of Pink Floyd's "On The Run". Reminds one of "Monster Hit" from their debut album. The end is similar to Posford's solo piano track "E" he wrote for the compilation Twelve.

So there we have it - a quick run down of my best favorite Shpongle songs of the past 20 years. Will the journey continue ? Lets hope so. Greeting earthlings. I've come back from the depths of the outer cosmos with a bag full of hypnotic spacey psychill for you all. This mix begins with a splendid, haunting downtempo tune from Aes Dana and Miktek. Following on next is Spain's Keemiyo ( José Fernandez Romay ) with a track from his album "A Mystical Journey" on label Altar Records. Keemiyo has a solid old-school background having traveled the hippie trail through Goa in the 1970s. A talented guitarist and flute player his music is best described as progressive trance, progressive chill.After José we give it a little more throttle with Airform ( Anton Stepanov ). Airform has been around for a few years now and came to the attention of a wider audience with the release of his album "Flourishing Zone" last year on Mystic Sound Records. Our next artist is AuroraX who featured as part of my best chillout DJs list a few years back. Its great to see he has stepped out from behind the decks and into the producer's chair. I'm really impressed with his tunes too. Some original vibes going on to be sure ! Check out his exciting album "Evolutionary Voyage".Cosmic Leaf records is home to Fourth Dimension ( Strahinja Maletić and Strahinja Zdravković ) who craft deep spacey chillout full of emotive atmospheres. Their sound is very typical of the kind of music you find on Cosmic Leaf. Very cool stuff. Get this one on their 2015 release "Harmonia". We then have Stimulus Timbre ( Keith Farrugia ) from Malta. This track is another Cosmic Leaf gem and was released on the album F.I.S.A.R.One of the modern stars of spacey psychedelic chillout follows on next. E-Mantra needs little introduction to fans of psychill music. His instantly recognizable mix of goa influenced melodies over smooth beats and bass has picked up fans world wide and made him much in demand on the festival circuit too. His latest album "Raining Lights" is an absolute must for lovers of intelligent spacey psybient sounds.Swedish artist Dhamika has impressed recently with a number of EPs and albums released over the past few years. Quite a few of them are available as "pay what you like" on Bandcamp. This track comes from his EP Luminance. He has a number of gigs around Sweden and Hungary this summer so if you are in those area be sure to check him out.One of my favorite artists of late is Suduaya. This guy makes some of the most emotive and inspirational music on the scene and should be in every chillout lover's music collection. Today's track comes from the album "Ancestral Lullabies 2" on label Melusine Records from Romania. Melusine is actually partly owned by E-Mantra. So much cross fertilization going on huh !The next track is a stormer from GMO and Dense. When these two guys team up magic is the inevitable outcome. Once again they have pulled out all the stops on this wonderful track. Get it on their new single "The Whistleblower". Speaking of storming traks, what a pleasant surprise it was to find the next tune from the little known "The Flying Mars" ( Mario Engel ). This track kind of borders on deep psychedelic ambient trance. It has a wicked bassline and is a little more uptempo than most tracks on offer in this mix. It just grooves on and on. Fantastic ! Grab it on his album "Vibradimensional Experience".I step the beats back just a touch then with Yarn's tune "Motion Blur" from the compilation album "Autumnal Chillout Box" before a smooth re-entry with Astropilot and a track from his latest entry in his awesome ambient Solar Walk series. I hope you all enjoy these spacey vibes and they get you in the mood for the upcoming summer festival season.Cheers ...

When working on illustrations I find it useful to listen to long ambient trance tunes. Such music allows me to completely tune out from the world, shut down all external stimuli and concentrate on the tasks at hand. I've put a few of the better ones together for this mix as part of the ongoing "ten over ten" series - a series of mixes devoted to showcasing ten tunes with a length of over ten minutes.We kick of with of The Orb with their track "Towers Of Dub ( Ambient Mix )". This version, i.e the ambient version, first appeared on a vinyl release from 1991 titled "Orb In Dub". I bought a second hand copy for $2 about twenty years ago. The A side was scratched however and made a little skip half way through this song. This clean version in the today's mix comes from a compilation CD series called "Ambient Senses" which is well worth following up on for classic ambient trance tracks.The second track in the mix comes from another compilation series. The Goa Beach series is a hit and miss affair. Spanning an incredible 25+ releases it comprises of goa, psytrance, psydub, psybient and ambient music. Here I've gone for Soehngen's ( Christoph Söhngen ) track "Leftfield Harmonies" from Goa beach Vol 3. Batting at number three is Spectralite ( Darren Evans and Greg Hunter ). These guys are two of the most respected artists in the entire ambient music scene. Darren is best known for his work as Noodream and more recently Ashirvad. Greg Hunter has been involved in some of the most groundbreaking music released during the last 20 years or more. Check out his latest stellar project Waveshaper.After Spectralite we have a track from Entheogenic's latest album, "A Singularity Encoded". One of the best albums from 2015, it continues to amaze me well into 2016 with some of the most beautiful psybient/psydub music that Entheogenic has ever produced.Next is another top track from Ott from his latest album "Fairchildren". Ott and his group The All Seeing Eye are on tour throughout May,June and July with gigs in US, UK and more. You can see a full tour schedule here.Following on from Ott is a classic track from Shulman from his 2003 album "In Search Of a Meaningful Moment" which ranks as one the best psybient albums of all time. Shulman has been rather quite of late. I can only hope we see him produce some more music in the future. It would be such a shame not to hear more magic from such an incredible talent. Another of last year's best albums is home to our next track. Desert Dwellers showed just how far they have come with the release of "The Great Mystery". From beautiful world music to dance floor four-four pumping rhythms, The Great Mystery is an exception album not to missed by an fans of modern psychedelic bass tribal music. Here is a short Desert Dwellers interview I did where member Amani talks about the past, present and future of the group.

Track eight is from The Bhaktas, a duo from Berlin,Germany. These guys mix tradition Indian mantras with electronic soundscapes to create inspirational world music. This track can be found on the album Cosmic Mantra Reincarnated which features a number of brilliant world music producers and the supreme mastering talents of Aes Dana !We then have Flooting Grooves ( who also featured on my previous psydub mix ) with a track from 2014's Antimony album. Flooting Grooves aka Pearce van der Merwe has three albums all full of superb ambient dubby grooves complemented with wonderful flute melodies. A new album is also due to land any day now. The samples I've heard sound great however there are just a couple of downtempo tunes with most of the tracks firmly in the funky psytrance style. He is also part of The Peaking Goddess Collective - a kind of psychedelic chillout super group who put on amazing live performances. Be sure to check them out at a festival sometime. Our final track this week comes via Eat Static from his freakin' awesome album "Dead Planet". You don't have it ? Just get it ! If not, Merv will call his alien buddies and have you abducted and probed.

Greetings. This week I've put together a collection of a tracks that deliver a varied expression of the psydub sound. From the smooth enthnodub of Kuba to the in your face heavy bass of Eat Static, this mix takes you on a relaxing ride across the psychedelic dub map.

Today we kick of with Kuba's track "Dub Of The Dreamer", which originally appeared on his EP "Above The Clouds". I recommend you get this one on the compilation album "Time By The River", a collection of Kuba's previously released EP and compilation tracks. It features thirteen classic tracks for just 7GBP ! I did hear of a new Kuba album in the works so follow him on Facebook to keep up to date on that one. We then have a track from Illuminus off their excellent debut album "Sweep Dreams". It's a great album and was recently featured as an album of the week here at the psyamb blog. I feel it seemed to come out of nowhere and wasn't promoted so much, which is a shame as it is a top album and should not be overlooked.Flowertz is the moniker of Gianpiero Fiorell. You can find this track on his album "Kumbhaka" which is a rather tasty mix of dub and downtempo music. It was awarded Best Ektoplazm ( Free Album ) release of 2015 at Reddit's annual Psybient awards.

Next up is a track from Wolf Tech from his album "Deep Space Dubz". Released early in 2016, the album features a mix of heavy bass, stuttering tribal glitch rhythms and modern dub expressions. One of my favorite albums so far this year.UK based producer Neil Butler has impressed me a lot with the release of his two album "On The Edge Of Forever" and "Radial". Both albums are excellent examples of finely crafted psychedelic chillout,dub and downtempo that would appeal to any fan of psybient music. Today I've gone for the dub scented track "Squelchy Eluchqy" from Radial.Following on is Citta Flow's track "Cloud Story", given a polished remix by deep psydub artist Kalpataru Tree. I highly recommend both artists - especially Kapataru Tree if you enjoy super chilled guitar based dub. You can pick this track up on the "Souls Emerge" compilation from back in 2013.Another remix up next with Tor.Ma In Dub's remix of the track Bekhudi by Kaya Project. Tor.Ma has really impressed of late. He has been churning out lots of remixes and you can really notice the improvement in production since he arrived on the scene. Grab this one on the Kaya Project remix compilation "So it Was ​.​.. & So It Goes Remixed.

One of the best compilation albums of 2015 was Dakini Mother Tongue from Youth's resurrected Liquid Sound Design (LSD) label. Featuring tracks from Youth and friends its an instant classic in the psydub, ethno ambient genre and harks back to the LSD days of old. I'm really excited about this new LSD output and am looking forward to more tasty goodies from this well respected label. Actually the next track is also an LSD release with Eat Static's remixing Suns Of Arqa's track "The Truth Lies Therein" from the compilation "All Is Not Lost, All Is Dub". Hypnotizer delivers an excellent growling bass ganja tale on his track "Positive Energy" from the EP "Lotus" which you can find at the Space Teepee Music website. Lotus is the third EP in Hypnotizer's "Sparkling Forest" series. All of them are really worth your time looking into and also be sure to check out his collaboration with Ashnaia Project - "Organic Dreamers".After that we have some familiar bouncy squelchy dub from Quanta from "Dream Before You Sleep" which was released a few years back on one of the best psydub labels on the planet - Shanti Planti.

Following Quanta is Ayonara. I don't know much about this guy except for a 4 track EP he released a few years back featuring today's track "Dub Yourself" and a couple of psytrance-esq tunes he has done. However the next artist we all know all too well. Globular has just released his new full length album "Holobiont" and all I can say is if you like anything he has done in the past then you are going to love this one ! I'm certainly enjoying it more than Ott's Fairchildren album, which was a bit disappointing to be honest - not sure how it got voted best album for 2015. Sure its good and all but maybe my expectations were too high ?We finish with a track from Geoglyph from the compilation "Diversity In The Isles". I reviewed that compilation a little while back so be sure to check that out for more excellent UK based chillout. Anyway, this is a wonderfully uplifting dub tune and a nice way to finish off this journey into psydub sounds. If you like this mix you can find similar dub themed mixes in the psyamb mixes archive. PsyDub ( Psychedelic Dub ) is a genre of music close to my heart. For the past 20 years or more I've been soaking in the wondrous delights this music offers. Today I'd like to rewind the clock back a few decades and share some of the best psydub albums from the early days.

Here is a list of 15 albums, produced in the 10 year period from 1994 to 2003, that I highly recommend as a starting point for exploring the sounds of early psydub.1. Stress Assassin - Within The Office Of Eye and Ear (Spiral Trax, 2002)

It doesn't get much more chilled then this. Henrik Jonsson delivered a timeless album of ambient dub built on a solid classic dub foundation. Should not be listened to while driving or operating heavy equipment. 2. Hallucinogen - In Dub (Twisted Records , 2002)

Though it may be cataloged as Hallucinogen this is essentially the work of Ott. On this album Ott takes a selection of classic Hallucinogen trance tracks, throws them in the Ott-o-matic washing machine and they all come out sparkling of dubby gold. 3. Various - Mashing Up Creation (Dubmission Records,1997)

Smooth, sexy dub that sounds as fresh now as it did 20 years ago. A classic in every respect ! All tracks are great byt you really can't miss Doof's "Baba, We Love Dub So".
4. Shpongle - Are You Shpongled ? (Twisted Records, 1998)
A firm fan's favorite, Shpongle's debut album put down a certain blueprint for many a psychedelic dub artist to follow. Spiraling, trippy melodies and subterranean bass take you on a mesmerizing journey into the other-world behind closed eyelids

1. Various - Eclipse: A Journey Of Permanence and Impermanence (Twisted Records, 1998)
   Essentially a Simon Posford (Shpongle/Hallucinogen) side project compilation with the addition of Doof and Total Eclipse, this album marked the beginning of Twisted Records fine collection of psydub and downtempo compilation albums. Deep ethno dub magic.6. Dub Trees - Nature Never Did Betray The Heart That Loved Her (Liquid Sound Design , 2000)

The beginning of Youth's ( Martin Glover ) "Dub Trees Trilogy" is a real head-masher. Dub fills crash through walls of reverb so thick it's like listening to a colossus honey-molasses monster splitting the world in two.7. Celtic Cross - Hicksville (Liquid Sound Design, 1998)

Posford and Glover team up with input from Saul Davies and Matt Coldrick to deliver another across the cosmos journey into electronic psychedelic bass. Noted for it's fusion of traditional Celtic melodies and time signatures over tripped out spacial environments, Hicksville has left fans begging for a sequel for the past 20 years. 8. Various - High Priests Of Electronic Dub (Hypnotic, 1996)

One of the most enjoyable listening experiences you can have stoned. From the dub remix of FSOL's classic Papua New Guinea to Bioshpere's remix of Download's Attalal, this is like a fine selection of chocolate dub assortments.9. Shulman - Soundscapes And Modern Tales (Shaffel Records, 2002)

From its opening UFO crash monologue this album will have you hooked if long, psychedelic chillout tunes are your thing. Borrowing from the book of Shpongle, Shulman's debut album marked the arrival of a new musical genius on the scene. Later albums would surpass this one in terms of quality and musicality however it will always remain a favorite for me, just as many things we experience the first time are. If you like the opening track then check out this tasty new psytrance remix by Rocky Tilbor.10. Bluetech - Prima Materia (Waveform Records, 2003)

While European artists were busy reworking classic dub with new psychedelic sounds, over in North America Bluetech was hard at work deconstructing dub and rebuilding it with a glitchy, stuttering, cybernetic core. Sublime electronic dubscapes.11. Entheogenic - Entheogenic (3D Vision Relax, 2002)

Entheogenic's debut album explores the mysteries held within Ayhasusca/DMT experience. The music flows like a twisting cosmic river of starlight. Later albums would go on to top the chillout charts in Germany, the first of any such psychedelic dub chillout albums to do so. 12. Blumenkraft - Ott (Twisted Records, 2003)

"Jack's Cheese and Bread Snack", "Spannered in Pilton", "Smoked Glass and Chrome" the list goes on. Ott's remarkable debut album is chock-full of psydub stormers not to be missed.13. Subsurfing - Frozen Ants (AO Records,1994)

Predating Shpongle by four years, Greg Hunter and Ryoji Oba, cooked up what one could argue is the single most ground breaking and gorgeous album in the history of ambient psychedelic dub music. 14. Ooze - Where the Fields Never End (Spirit Zone, 2001)

Ooze by name, ooze by nature. The debut album from Sebastian Mullaret seeps with thick, dubby liquid bass accompanied by quirky bleeps and jazzy percussion. It was remixed in 2012, so be sure to check out that version too ( you can get both in one package / double CD ). 15. Saafi Brothers - Mystic Cigarettes (Blue Room Released, 1997)

I searched high and low for this album when I heard about the release. When I finally got my hands on it, it felt like I was in possession of the holy grail or some such ancient artifact. One of my most played albums ever, Mystic Cigarettes is a groundbreaking work of ambient tech dub that should not be missed by anyone who wants to explore the roots of psychedelic ambient dub music.

Back in the early days of psychedelic chillout/ambient trance music the UK was one of the leading counties producing such music. From The Orb, The KLF, Loop Guru and Banco De Gaia through to the genesis of Twisted Records ( Shpongle ) and Liquid Sound Design ( Kuba, Youth Abakus etc ), UK producers were shaping the future of what was to become psybient music. Two decades hence and the the psychedelic downtempo scene has become a global movement with strong representation from America, Canada, Russia, Ukraine, Spain, Australia and more. If you ever find yourself pining for those days of old, wondering what the UK scene is like in 2016 then you might do well to check out this new compilation release "Diversity In The Isles" from Ian Taylor of Liquid Lounge fame. Aiming to highlight the diversity of music on offer from the current crop of established and up and coming UK based producers, Ian has hit on a wining formula that is sure to delight long time fans of the genre and new listeners alike.It kicks of with a engaging dubby chillout tune from Pete Ardron ( aka Orchid Star ) in that classic Liquid Sound Design style - kind of Abakus vs Kuba in a way. A very soothing opening to the compilation. Pete has been around the scene for what seems to be forever and he has no intention of slowing down with a new solo album due for release this July. Check out his website for more info on this multi talented wizard. 8/10The next track takes us into the world of OOOD. Much like Pete Ardon, OOOD have also been around for a long time. Formed back in 1994 their music crosses a number of genres from goa/psytrance to eclectic chillout. This track has that vibe from the old Global Psychedelic Chillout compilations on Spirit Zone. It's kind of a freeform beat driven guitar fusion that will keep your attention throughout. Cleanly mastered too, as you would expect from OOOD. 7/10Following on we have have another tune that harks back to Spirit Zone. Antam Yar deliver a tune that is reminiscent of the darker side of early ambient trance. Shades of "Grey Area" and Patchwork perhaps. Wonderfully mixes tense mechanical moments with bubbling organic opiates to great effect. 8/10Track four is real treat for psydub fans. The talents of producer Geoglyph have been hailed by none other than Globular of late and with good reason too. Geoglyph has the chops ! This is an excellent example of spiraling bass shenanigans that will make you wonder if Geoglyph isn't actually just Globular or Ott in disguise. Check out his free to download album here. 9/10Next, Atman Contruct gets us shaking with a contemporary tribalbass brokenbeat affair. Atman Construct is the principal music project of Looke Zen; multi-talented musician, producer, programmer, and curator of the trend-setting "Into This Wired Abyss" compilation albums. Certainly one of his better tunes I think 8/10Tea Tree ( Rory Gordziejko ) is a new artist to my ears and a very welcome one too. This track sits in that funky glitch hop style with a twist of psydub. Displays a vibrant playfulness that would go down a treat on a big stack of speakers in the dust. I'll be sure to be following this chap. You can listen to a couple more of his tunes at his Soundcloud page. Lets hope for a full album someday ! 8.5/10Following Tea Tree is Perpetual Loop (Charles Massey), an artist whose music I've been a fan of for the best part of a decade now. He doesn't always please but when he gets it right, he shines. Such as the tracks Emotive Signs and Dark Passenger on his last album Molecronsition. I would say this track doesn't quite reach those heights but is still a nice bit of classic styled chillout. 7/10Flexagon is another new artist here. This track approaches a cheesy 80s synth pop band thing at times. Not really my thing but quite listenable all the same. Maybe its just me be I cant help but thinking if it had Midge Ure singing over the top he would have a retro styled hit on his hands. Check out his Bandcamp page for more music where there are few tasty gems on offer. 6/10Okay, no introduction needed on the next track. Here Globular is at his psydub globby best. He can do no wrong these days. I cant wait for the release of his next album Holobiont which is due to see the light of day soon. 10/10More dubby exercises next with a minimal psydub tune from Moonwolf. Moonwolf have a couple of EPs on bandcamp you can checkout. They are quite varied in style with a number of tunes on offer that I quite like. Certainly worth following. 7/10We then have Belle Seraphin with a kind of trip-hop track that is a bit raw in parts but shows a lot of promise. If you dig this one check out her Soundcloud page where you can hear a few more chillout tracks and a number of Ibiza styled trance tracks. 6/10After Belle we thankfully get back into some quality dub - something Liquid Lounge is an expert mixer of. Here Ian introduces us to Rev Dread with some classic dub reggae. The UK has a well established history of dub reggae and Rev Dread continues that fine tradition in this track. Great summer vibes here. If you like this one then check out Rev Dread on Soundcloud for loads more tunes. 8/10Up next is an excellent guitar chill number by False Identity ( Charlie Bartlett ) . I became an instant fan of F.I a few years back after the release of his debut EP Community Of Me. That special little release, which is now available for free, was full of glorious bouncy psydub that gets you shaking all over. This track isn't quite like that and rather displays a progression into a cocktail of traditional dub, chill, jazz, funk and more. Freaky goodness. 9/10Mosienko Project then gives us a 4-4 ethno-tribal dub dance tune reminiscent of Tories and Banco De Gaia. Seems a bit out of place at first but diversity is the name of the game on this release and it certainly grows on you to a point where I actually wished it was a longer track. For something a little more chilled check out the Soundcloud page where there is a very tasty remix by Analogue Mindfield of the track Transcendence In Dub. 7/10We then cool off with some more dub on the track To Live By The Sea by Ultramorphic. This one starts off with you thinking we are in for a Pink Floyd tune due to the opening Gilmour-esque guitars. However it then morphs into a a straight up dub number complete with classic horn arrangements and saxophone. What I find most impressive is that it has a whole band feel to it despite being the work of one person. 8/10After Ultramorphic is an odd little number. London based producer Narcose carves a curious creature that mixes up tribal bass, funk, cinematic keys, growling synths and old school appregiated melodies. It stop and starts,twists and turns, wines and dines. Very tasty 8/10Digital Skunk is an eclectic producer who constantly surprises on Soundcloud with each track about as far removed as possible from previous ones. For this compilation Ian has gone with one of DS's more chilled tracks. This is a pretty standard chillout track as you might find on a Buddha Bar compilation. Well produced and cleanly polished but just lacks a little something. 6.5/10For the final track we have a bit of electric surprise from The Diplomatic Core. Personally I like a compilation, especially a chill out compilation, to finish on an upbeat number that leaves a smile on your face or something that smoothly fades off into the distance. Instead , here we have an odd cinematic overture that cuts off with a heart attack inducing scream. Perhaps the intention was to wake you up if the previous track had sent you off to sleep ? Overall this an impressive debut compilation with something on offer for everyone. There is enough dub to keep psydub fans happy. Some old school influenced number to keep the old fans pleased ( myself included ) and some fresh contemporary sounds that you can get into without too much trouble.My one gripe would be that some of the tracks, especially in the second half are a bit below par in terms of quality ( not sure if that's a production or mastering issue or both ). Perhaps it would have been better to cull a few of those tracks so as to keep it to a solid dozen tracks instead the eighteen on offer. Or maybe that's just the geeky DJ in me speaking ?Still, diversity is the theme here with this compilation and it certainly succeeds in that regard. Ian has laid down the foundations for what may well be a highly successful series and one that once again could promote the UK to the peak of the psychedelic chillout scene.
