CABLE GUY Dead heads in livid lead Marching through your life Ad queens like living dreams Waving a carving knife Soldier boys with lethal toys Going off to war Flags and bags and teary eyes They won’t be home no more
You gotta be a patriot You gotta lock and load Invade the heathens’ bitter lands Do what you’ve been you’re told Do what you’ve been you’re told, yeah Do what you’ve been you’re told Invade the heathens’ bitter lands Do what you’ve been you’re told
Bugging phones living drones Break in to your place Secret mics on kiddies’ trikes Men hear with no face The ones in black they stand at the back Shadows nothing more Each time you strike a keyboard They’re marking up the score
You gotta be a patriot You gotta lock and load Invade the heathens’ bitter lands Do what you’ve been you’re told Do what you’ve been you’re told, yeah Do what you’ve been you’re told Invade the heathens’ bitter lands Do what you’ve been you’re told
Nursery rhymes in better times Wound their wonder tight Now the young their songs are sung About how to kill and fight Faceless corporations Feed endless credit choice Entice you in the “Debt Set” Before you’ve got a voice
You gotta be a patriot You gotta lock and load Invade the heathens’ bitter lands Do what you’ve been you’re told Do what you’ve been you’re told, yeah Do what you’ve been you’re told Invade the heathens’ bitter lands Do what you’ve been you’re told
You gotta be a patriot You gotta lock and load Invade the heathens’ bitter lands Do what you’ve been you’re told Do what you’ve been you’re told, yeah Do what you’ve been you’re told Invade the heathens’ bitter lands Do what you’ve been you’re told
Fun Facts: This song is in the key of E minor. The lyrics were written about a friend of Pete's who had a satellite TV system installed and then, soon after, saw on his new system the guy who had installed it shown on the national news, having been arrested on terrorism charges. The notorious speech from Donald Rumsfeld was a perfect fit. The idea for the instrumental sections came very suddenly a few days after the rest of the song had been recorded and were captured as quickly as possible before they vanished back into the ether again.
