Daniel Shek, a veteran diplomat and the former Israeli ambassador to France, was born in Israel in the mid-1950s to one of the founders of the Israeli foreign service. An ambassador's son, Shek grew up in Jerusalem, London, Paris and Vienna; as a child, life on the road was tough, and Shek made a vow that he would not, under no circumstances, follow in his father's footsteps. However, fate got in the way...
