The conversation where we try to understand life just a little bit more. Hosted by Daniel Redfearn and Subaan Qasim, we explore topics both familiar and unfamiliar to us to find out what makes them interesting, so that we can expand our horizons and further our understanding of the world and people around us.
From science to lifestyle design, languages to religion, plus everything in between - anything can be interesting if exposed to you through the right lens. We hope to spark your curiosity through open-minded and thoughtful discussion, as well as a healthy dose of overthinking.
Dan talks about his recent new-found enjoyment taken from going to art galleries. He discusses some of his favourite paintings in the National Gallery, and Subaan shares some thoughts and reflections on these artists, as well as thinking about how art can be used in the modern day as a form of digital identity.

We discuss how the meaning of a gift changes when given on an occasion (e.g. birthday, Christmas etc.) versus when a gift is given randomly. Are you truly giving a gift it is conditional to a date and the recipient is expecting a gift from you?
In Shower Thoughts we overthink those random questions and life-changing thoughts we frequently have in the shower and maybe come to a conclusion, all in a casual conversation.

Most of us don't have enough money to buy anything we want without thinking about the cost. What we end up spending money on should require a lot of introspection on what brings us value and satisfaction in the long term. As long as the value/satisfaction/happiness an item gives us can accumulate almost indefinitely over time, then it's worth spending a lot of money on it. In other words, Subaan tries to justify spending a lot of money on a backpack.

It's respectable to admit you don't know anything about a topic but that you want to learn more about it.
In this episode, we talk about the value that can be drawn from engaging in conversations where you know very little about the topic of discussion. Although it may feel slightly uncomfortable, there's definitely a knack to it. There are always times where we don't want to sound silly, but if you can break through the initial awkward feeling, then speaking to someone about a topic where you know nothing can open your eyes to new perspectives on the world. It often even opens up avenues for new friendships and experiences.
We should all try to do it more!

We try to get to the bottom of some of the important aspects that influence a person's first impression of you. Things like posture, facial expressions, physical appearance, body language, and more.

Dan talks about languages for 100 minutes straight. He breaks down the most spoken languages in the world and discusses their various characteristics to help guide you in figuring out which language to learn. If you don't have a specific motivation for a language, it can be difficult to pick one to learn. So considering aspects of a language such as its geography, power in diplomacy/business/knowledge/media, and simply its difficulty to learn can help narrow down the choices and let you make a more informed decision.

We discuss and overthink a shower thought that branched from Subaan wondering if we should speed up our recordings before uploading them.
What makes a meaningful conversation and one that you derive value from? How can we hedge against potential lack of value? Should you consume content at 2x speed? How do we figure out if the other person isn't taking value from what we're saying? How do we gauge if others are engaged with us?

Have you ever wanted to learn a new language? What's the best way to go about it? We discuss what we think is the most effective way to start learning a new language from scratch and gain deep-rooted value from the process.
Learning a language is all about the process. Achieving true fluency is incredibly difficult, however learning to communicate effectively within the language isn't as bad as it seems. Nonetheless, it's a lot of work, but incredibly rewarding if you set your intentions and goals from the beginning
