After catching up and talking about Lauren's new puppy, the two get into this week's topic of hope. Lauren addresses how important hope is to her and has been to her in the past. Rick references a quote by Victor Hugo about hope.
Rick mentions the difference between hope and Hope. He uses the illustration of rock climbing to explain how hope and Hope can work in our world. Rick says that in this illustration, God is the rope.
Lauren reminds us that we will always be disappointed in worldly hope, but we will never be disappointed in Hope. She talks more about the loss of her son, and how she was still able to experience hope and joy in that loss.
Lauren and Rick then transitions into discussing how empathy and sympathy plays into hope, and how we can offer these things to others.
Rick references a part in 'Shawshank Redemption' where a character says that hope is a dangerous thing but Rick says that we have to hope because we are called to live in this world and have hope and Hope, and engage in the world.
