In yet another quarantine-recorded episode, Rick and Lauren start the episode by talking about what life has looked like the past month or so for them while they stay safer at home. Shortly after, they transition into this week's discussion about being "good enough." Both Lauren and Rick admit that they constantly feel like they aren't good enough in lots of aspects of their lives. Rick talks about how this sense of not being good enough can rob you of the joy of who God made you to be.
Rick explains that he thinks this desire to be better or feeling like he's not good enough comes from things in his childhood and school days, when he found that if he was a certain way or acted a certain way, it would make people like him. But Rick asserts that if he listens to the Spirit instead of his deceptive heart, it can lead to reframing on this subject. Lauren jumps in and says that there are some areas of her life where she's very willing to be vulnerable, but there are some areas where she feels she can't share it because she's afraid it would make people think she doesn't have it all together.
Rick transitions the conversation to what he calls the joy of not being enough. What he means by this is that God is the only "enough" and we can find joy and comfort in this. He also voices that we experience the full weight of grace when we offer everything we have to God, even if we think it's not enough. He references a story in Luke about a widow giving all that she had. Lauren says this resonates with her, because she is her own worst critic and wants to be perfect and awesome at everything, but in order to be in healthy relationships with people, she has to realize that she'll never be perfect, and that's okay.
Rick and Lauren spend the last few minutes talking practical ways to let go of thinking they're not good enough. Rick says one way he has to reframe is by trying to give his worries to God. He also shares that admitting that he will never be good enough is a great way to show God's grace to those around him.
