This week's guest is Teresa Dunn, a licensed professional counselor who practices with Restoration Counseling Associates. Teresa begins the episode by sharing about her professional life and how she works closely with couples. Rick jumps in by adding that they often teach and lead together in their professional lives. Teresa then discusses what she calls The Marriage Dance, which is when a couple has the same argument again and again. Teresa references Harville Hendrix and his work on marriage and the imago wound.

Lauren then leads the conversation by talking about how her and her husband Tommy are both working from home, and she's seen a whole, new side of him which she calls "Work Tommy." Rick and Teresa agree, and disclose that they have also had to learn how to walk through this, as well as learn how to deal with the differences in each other.

This leads Teresa to assert that we have to accept each other's differences as a gift and not a barrier, and how important it is to reframe your thinking to see it this way. Rick agrees, and says that he is learning to reframe his thinking in every season of their marriage. Teresa explains that this is why counseling can be important for couples; it can be hard to reframe things in your own life, and counseling can help you see it from another person's perspective.

Teresa closes the podcast by sharing that signs of a healthy relationships are communicating well with each other - in both speaking and listening - and solving conflicts in a healthy way. Teresa reveals an easy acronym to help you remember the best way to communicate: FAN, which stands for feeling, affirmation, and need.
