It feels like we are waiting for everything right now. Waiting to hear updated news, waiting until we can leave our homes, waiting for life to go back to normal. Rick and Lauren start this episode by admitting that waiting is a hard thing to do. But just like Rick emphasizes, waiting is Biblical; in fact, Rick says that 'wait' is in the Bible over a hundred times. We are told to wait and we will find hope, wait and you will find courage, wait and you will find strength. Rick takes these Scriptures and interprets them as God asking us to let Him fill the spaces of anxiety and fear during the waiting.
Lauren agrees with Rick on letting God fill these spaces, and talks about her family's loss of a child, and how they had to wait on a death they knew was coming. Lauren describes how she and her family had to learn how to be actively waiting and find ways to carry on with life, and not fall into the passivity that can accompany waiting.
Rick then leads the conversation to the waiting we are all currently experiencing during COVID-19. He admits that there are times where he wakes up and thinks, "I don't know how to lead today during all of this," and says that his insecurities have flared up more than ever. However, Rick assures Lauren and listeners that he is trying to invite God into these places, and not let his flesh take over. He references 1 Chronicles 14, where David had to wait on the Lord, and encourages listeners to not put things on their shoulders, but to trust God when He has us waiting.
To help in the waiting, Rick and Lauren encourage people to be honest about where they are in the waiting, and not be afraid to acknowledge to God about the moment you're in. Rick expresses it's important to admit that you aren't God, and you don't have control over things in your life, but God does, and He's worthy of trust.
In closing, Rick reminds listeners to not wait for something, but wait in something with God in control.
