In this new interview Dr Anita Sharma, a GP in Brisbane, sits down with Professor Jonathan Shaw, Deputy Director at The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, and Council member of Australian Diabetes Society. In this episode, we discuss the latest updates on PBS restrictions for type 2 diabetes medications. On December 1, 2024, a significant change was introduced: The PBS now allows dapagliflozin to be prescribed in combination with metformin - unless contraindicated or intolerant - without glycaemic requirements for patients with type 2 diabetes who are at high cardiovascular risk or identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. This expansion marks a pivotal shift in treatment accessibility and strategy. Join us as we explore the implications of this change for clinical practice and discuss how it may transform the management of type 2 diabetes in Australia.Produced in January 2025 by DrivetimeRadio with the support of The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute, in collaboration with AstraZeneca.
