Hairdresser Darrel Starkey brought together stylists worldwide for a digital wig-making workshop…and we hear it was a hit! Darrel shared an entire step-by-step process for the stylists eager to upskill their wig-making. It’s great to see our industry championing education and helping up-and-coming stylists worldwide.
BackgroundDarrel, who we hear is an all-rounder in the industry, has demonstrated a natural talent for wigs and wig-making. He had received several requests globally for educational sessions, with enquiries from America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Darrel took the wig-making class virtually to meet the demands of his followers…it’s the modern approach to education, after-all. On the day
Darrel welcomed a group of 75 stylists on Zoom who were keen to begin their wig journey. Darrel taught the foundations of wig-making and helped the stylists gain confidence in this hairdressing area. The stylists who took part were from the UK, America, Australia and China… a truly global event.
During the workshop, Darrel took his students through the entire process of creating a bespoke long-hair wig. The session involved learning to map out the wig design for the shape and desired look, colour placement and attachment, and finish. Darrel also shared detailed information on hair density, attachment methods and how to style. We hear the overall session was creative and collaborative- the perfect day. With an increased demand for wigs and hair replacement systems in the industry, this course will help stylists and salons deliver additional, sought-after services.

Wigs can often be deemed ‘complicated’, and my goal is to break down those boundaries and show how easy they are to work with, the best way to work with them and how to navigate to achieve the best results. We are seeing many people experiment with wigs through social media, and to be able to create and provide this as a service is a win-win for all.”
WIG Education is now available for groups, salons and individuals, with dates accommodated in salons or digitally.
