Representation matters. We know just a small percentage of the population is represented (and glorified) in media — that is — cis, heteropatriarchal able-bodied middle-class monogamous white men. We’ve heard every iteration of every personality and circumstance they can face. Hollywood writers express concern that everything has been done, but that’s probably because they have been and continue to be extremely unwilling to have main characters with complex story arcs that are anything other than their beloved stereotypical man. What might it look like if we actually begin to diversify our media?
