https://youtu.be/CcIL_JFmBtk {:} Steven Pinker argues that the world is becoming a safer, better place, or, for the cynics amongst us, a less horrible place. His thesis is that, over the course of the past millennia, violence has drastically decreased. Pinker studies all causes of death from different eras and finds that murder rates are falling everywhere and that, from research taken from archaeological sites, the average death due to violence of the prehistoric man was around 15%, in contrast to a mere 3% in the first half of the 20th Century, which included the bloodiest wars ever recorded. These are just some of the many wonderful facts his talk was filled with which he delivered with clarity and a touch of humour.
