Season 10 Final Episode

The Pandemic has a lot of casualties and the second half of Season 10 was one of them. Rich talks about the past few months and gives us a glimpse of the future of this podcast while recapping the last few months of this dismal year. Rich talks about dives he did, things that happened, people who made a difference and leaves us on a positive note for this show.

Rich talks about a dive he did on a brand new shipwreck during the invite-only trip last week. This new shipwreck was really cool with lots of artifacts and ship fixtures just waiting to be explored. Rich also talks about the Labor Day holiday weekend where he taught an Open Water Certification and another Discover Scuba Experience.

Rich does a very early morning podcast from his truck as he heads to Hammond, Indiana to dive a new shipwreck recently discovered in Lake Michigan. The past weekend in Milwaukee was a blowout so he is eager to get back in the water to explore this new found discovery.

His discussion is about what has happened in his own evolution. Coping with the dynamics of the pandemic has made the latest evolution pretty spectacular.

Rich talks about the changes that have happened at Lake Wazee since his last time there in 2010. A lot seems to have happened in 10 year and the dives were pretty awesome even though they were a bit limited by this being a quarry. At over 300ft deep, this quarry was a pretty awesome body of water.

Rich is heading to Lake Wazee to finish the Tec60CCR. Recorded in his truck, Rich talks about making the trip out of the necessity and using the opportunity that the cancellations covid-19 has brought. This course was made possible by the postponement of the Truk Lagoon Expedition.

Rich talks about his week of diving after a spectacular weekend diving on a charter boat in Alpena in the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Rich talks about a weather related Plan "C" that they did as an alternate dive and talked about the excitement of having things closer to normal.

Rich talks about some of the stuff coming up that is causing him to change the way he does trips and charters. Specifically, he chats about the upcoming Alpena trip and the changes that have been made there. He also talks about changing to a Plan "C" trip and traveling to Milwaukee to finish an otherwise postponed Tec 60 CCR course.

The Dive Case for the InReach Mini allows you to take a GPS locator and emergency beacon on a dive with you to a max depth of 330ft. Rich has been part of the test team for Garmin on this product since January and is excited to finally be able to talk about it.

Rich talk about the creative ways he is getting in front of scuba divers and the diving and training he has been doing during this time of uncertainty. He also talks about how he is ready for this to all be over.

At the start of this week, many Governors across our nation issued a stay at home order for their residents essentially grinding businesses to a halt over the Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak. Rich talks about his business and how it is affected and his thoughts on what will happen next in scuba when people won't go scuba diving.

Rich talks about training that is going on in the chilly spring time. He also talks about some of the uncertainty surrounding the epidemic and tries to keep positive in a rapidly changing world.

Rich talks about the past week with the news becoming more severe about the COVID-19 epidemic that we need to be aware of. He chats about some classes that were going well at the beginning of this situation and moves on to chat about the realities of the effect travel bans and such have on a small business like his.

Rich does a short recap of his Great Lakes Shipwreck Festival experience. He also discusses the apparent disconnect among divers who have a interest in become Tec Certified and the realities of what that type of diving means. The comment was "that's just 'Baby Tec' I want to dive deeper than that" and the reemergence of the concept that technical diving is ONLY deep diving.

Rich is back from Munising and a week of adventure with his fellow course directors. Rich talks about how this trip and his friend's visit reinforced the idea that visitors are tourists and you should not take for granted that your normal surrounding are not totally awesome to someone who is visiting. Especially if they are here for the first time.
