Genealogies normally do not include women yet Matthew chose to include five specific women. These women came from unexpected backgrounds, involved in situations that were deemed less than desirable. Yet God worked through these unexpected women to ultimately bring about the birth of Jesus. They are included in the genealogy to give us hope, to foreshadow that Jesus came to save all people.
