My friends Faith and Ruth talked about Christianity in conjunction with relationships, love, and intimacy with me today. It’s a really beautiful episode. One that highlights that it is human to make mistakes and that all we can do is to put our best foot forward. We talk about hypocrisy, compassion, and the importance of boundaries.

In today’s episode, Christos and I sat down and realized that we went to the same school: The European School. We talked about issues like identity, why it is so difficult for Luxembourg to keep its EU students in the country, and what it means to be a European citizen. Then, we seguewayed into why it is that people don’t stay or come back to Luxembourg. We touched on cost of living and the lack of political representation of immigrants in the Luxembourgish government. In a nutshell: the "Eurobubble" of Luxembourg, a phenomenon where immigrants do not partake in decision-making in Luxembourg, and consequently don’t participate in society.
I highly recommend, for anyone who's interested in learning more about Luxembourg, to check out Christos' instagram @christosfloros.

I don’t know about you but I really struggle with setting boundaries sometimes. I sat down with my friends Ella and Adelaide to discuss some of our challenges with enacting boundaries in our every-day lives. We also talked about how not setting boundaries can be a toxic trait, how we've learned to get better at setting boundaries, how your childhood impacts your ability to set boundaries as an adult, and the dangers of not setting boundaries.

In this episode we’ll be talking about the categories that can be found within the gay community.
Why are we discussing this and why is this interesting for everyone?
If you’re a woman and you think the patriarchy only affects you, think again. Within the gay community, you’d assume there wouldn’t be issues of gender-like discrimination because… they all have penises. So, like, problem solved- right? Instead we find the unwieldy construction of a quasi-female category.
Why, you ask. Good question.
To create a power dynamic. There is a fixation on hyper-masculinity on dating apps but also within the real world and apparently having a penis isn’t enough to run away from patriarchal issues.
Why, you ask again.
Well, damn. What a question. We’ll attempt to answer it as best as we can but to give you a taster: Think internalised homophobia, a fixation on masculinity, the innate human need to have more values than others, and so on.
But bottom line, the labels are a big issue.

It’s no secret that many gay men work out frequently and watch their weight carefully. Why is that? Where does that pressure derive from?
Does it stem from an over-sexualisation of the body? In other words, is it because the body is seen as something to be consumed, rather than being the vessel of a human being with a heart?
In this episode, Jeevan (@lgbt.abdnaware) and I discuss where the obsession with the gym and that perfect, ripped body comes from. You’ll hear him arguing really fascinating points, such as the “lean physique” being a means to escape from discrimination - because who’s going to disrespect you if you’re big and bulky, right?
We’ll briefly be touching on the ideas of the feminine and masculine archetype. However, the episode after this one will dive into that subject matter deeper (categorisation of gay men, how the patriarchy plays into gay culture).

The LGBTQ+ community claims to celebrate diversity, individuality, and sexuality.
Why is it that racism isn't addressed?
Particularly on dating apps, racism is frequently justified as “it’s just my preference”. No. Whether you prefer your cocktail on the sweet or sour, stronger or weaker side is a preference. Making preemptive decisions on a person based on their ethnicity is not a preference- it’s racism.
What flabbergasts me is how in a community that claims to be tolerant of all, and where most people have experienced oppression or discriminated first hand, racism is deemed socially acceptable.
Perhaps it is important here to state the obvious: Having been a victim of bigotry does not make you immune against being a bigot yourself.
In this episode, my friend Jeevan (@lgbt.abdnaware) and I will be discussing racism within the gay community: where it stems from and what we think of it. Please don't be shy to comment or privately message me, should you have thoughts, questions, or constructive criticism.

This chat got yoga-heavy but give it a listen whether you’re into yoga or not! I promise you won’t regret it.
The underlying reason for stress in our lives lies in us trying to control everything. So, where does this need to control things come from?
In some ways this will require inner child work. You’ll have to sort through stuff that happened in your childhood. Maybe you were neglected in some way in your early childhood - it can be something as small as your parents being late one day and you thinking you had been forgotten by them.
We also control out of worry. And how is worry created? By thinking about the future or the past. Worry doesn’t live in the present. Worry is placed on something in the future or past (usually it’s forward thinking). We create worst-case scenarios, unnecessary worries flood in, and so on.
So, how do we stop that?
Take a breath.
Ground yourself.
Move it from the head into the body.
Drop shoulders.
Loosen your jaw.
Then ask yourself some rational questions.
@rosalie.hochstetter shared that she likes to go for a run, or takes a warm shower, cuddles her adorable dog, and so on.
I like to do vinyasa yoga, and give my body what it needs. Usually, a walk in nature will do the trick.

This one’s all about receiving and letting go of taking responsibility for everything. Learning to receive is something a lot of people, and especially women, struggle with. What we’re often unaware of is: when you don’t accept another person’s help, compliments, or other acts of kindness - you’re taking away their joy. So, tap into your feminine energy and learn to receive through this episode. We’ll also be talking about authenticity. I have often regulated how I act around certain people, not wanting to be insensitive to someone’s insecurities. Ultimately, this ain’t your job. Your only job is to be kind and show up as yourself authentically. Do not take responsibility for other people’s insecurities. Don’t play small to not overshadow another person. When you show up authentically, you provide the space for others to also be authentically themselves. And THAT is a beautiful thing.

We can all relate to feeling stressed or anxious about situations in life. So, how do we get rid of this drain on our energy resources. How do we stop stressing and worrying?
Rosalie runs her own business so I thought she’d be the perfect person to ask. There's no one who takes care of what she does, it's a one-woman show and with that come responsibilities. This can be freeing in a lot of ways, but daunting in others. Taxes and legal stuff, anyone?
Even if you aren't running a business, you probably have experienced the overthinking when you haven't gotten back to someone and worried that they're now mad at you. Or, hey, we just had exams, and many of you were probably stressing out about those. The only constant in life is change, as they say. And that can feel like too much to handle at times.
Both @rosalie.hochstetter and I are big fans of conscious breathing or pranayama, so we'll be talking about that- amongst other things- in this episode.

I just recorded a new podcast episode with my friend Maddie. She studied Psychology at the University of Aberdeen and has now moved onto her MA, which she will be graduating from in September. In this episode, we touched on the stigmata surrounding therapy and will be sharing some useful resources and ways to get help if you are struggling mentally. This one's especially catered to students who might not have the resources to afford a therapist. You’ll learn here, wehere you can ask for help, how to find the right therapist, and how to get help when you don’t have any money to spare. Maddie also wanted me to add some links that might be helpful for some of you: https://www.nightline.ac.uk https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support https://www.anxietyuk.org.uk https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health

The second episode with Rosalie is out. This one's about all things confidence and self love. You can expect anything from how to get through a "bad" day to how to stop keeping yourself from going after what you deserve. We'll also be discussing self-acceptance in relation to the menstrual cycle (aka. how to accept that sometimes there's less energy and allow yourself to rest without feeling lazy or guilty). Rosalie will be touching on societal conditioning and "playing small" due to lacking confidence. In short, if you've ever struggled with confidence and self-love, this one's for you.

Episode 50 of Runa's Ruminations. A special one, and here's the audio version for those who prefer that to the igtv.
My life coach and friend Rosalie and I sat down as part of my Mental Health Awareness week content.
You'll get to know Rosalie in this first of four episodes, and learn what you can expect from your life coach (and what not).
We primarily discussed how being misaligned with your purpose, or dharma, can lead to friction within you. I feel a lot of people struggle mentally because they aren’t happy with their life, due to not really knowing where their strengths lie and what makes them happy. I asked Rosalie how she figure out what she really wanted from life, and also shared a time when I noticed things weren't working out whatsoever.
I hope this episode will spark some form of motivation and also a sense of not being alone in this. In other words, I hope this will resonate with a lot of you.

This episode is part of my content for mental health awareness week. I find it really important to discuss mental health related topics more, in order to normalise them. Most of us will have struggled mentally at some point or another, and all I want is for people to feel less abnormal & less alone. For this episode, I invited Ruth. She'll be answering faith-based questions in relation to mental health. Such as:
If and how religious beliefs can help when coping with stressful life circumstances, and
If religious faith can give humans a sense of comfort, meaning, a sense of control, or hope.
But we'll also be looking at topics like if there is a stigma against therapy in the church.

I loved interviewing Nia on the concept of polyamory. It pushed me as the interviewer, since it was completely out of my comfort zone. It's moments like these that teach me how to expand my horizon, and hopefully it will do the same for some of you. For the first time, I really struggled to word questions properly. In the end, I realised: to create a good atmosphere and make it a powerful episode, I have to allow myself to be authentic. I was so worried to sound unaccepting or overly traditional- when in reality, I just didn't understand a lot of things. So I owned up to it. I said: I don't understand this, please explain. And she did. At the end of the day, all we can do is try to remain open-minded, curious individuals and educate ourselves.

In this episode, we're contrasting the startup work environment with the traditional work place. Our generation is fortunate in the respect that it's becoming more common to start your own business and be your own boss. But then again, how does that work? No one tells you when to stop working, and no one's pressuring you into doing overtime. Everything is up to you and this can be both freeing and stressful. Some people thrive in these environments, others struggle to find a routine. This episode is all about the pros and cons of startup culture.

This episode is a really raw and honest one. It’s a bit of a daunting topic to discuss but I think it’s important because 75-95% of women (studies vary) report disordered eating behaviors or symptoms consistent with eating disorders. Us women, we’re pretty cruel to our bodies sometimes. We compare and control. Some of us do it our whole life. It doesn’t help that there is a trend of being overly aware and healthy (Orthorexia), one that at times glamourises disordered eating. There were times when my eating habits were definitely unhealthy. In this episode, Lauren shares how weight lifting changed her mindset, and I later talk about how yoga has helped me. We both have learned to see food as fuel, and not the enemy. I hope this resonates with some of you. Maybe it’s nice to hear that you’re not alone in this.

I sat down with Lauren last week and she talked about what it’s like to do weightlifting as a woman. I was curious because I only know guys who are into it. She talks about her positive experience in the weightlifting society of the University of Glasgow but also what it’s like to weightlift as a woman in general. We then meandered into the topic of hitting the gym as a woman, feeling like everyone’s staring at you, and lacking the confidence to go into the male-dominated weightlifting section (or not, in Lauren's case). 'Gyming' as a woman truly is different to a man’s experience. It can be difficult to muster up the courage to walk around in your yoga pants with the knowledge that you’re being mentally undressed- no thank you. Anyway, we talked about both of our experiences exercising as a female, be it in the context of weightlifting or just hitting the gym in general. Probably a relatable episode… I hope you enjoy!

A few years ago, I went on the pill. Why? Because I had exhausted alternatives (or so I thought) and it seemed practical. I was educated on the possible side effects but I genuinely thought "what are the chances of being so unlucky?". It turned out to be one of my biggest regrets. Even though I only took it for a few months, it seriously messed with my health. So much so that it took until the past summer to start fixing one of the main issues caused by this drug: my thyroid. Through this episode, I hope I can encourage you to be thorough in your research regarding the things you put into your body. At the end of the day, "health is wealth", and you shouldn't take that lightly. I also mention in the episode, and I'll include it here again, that this doesn't happen to everyone. I have friends who are on the pill and have experienced zero issues. I'm not saying the pill is evil but I do want to raise awareness about the importance of choosing carefully what you put into your body. I hope this episode will be helpful for some of you!

Someone sent in a question a while back asking: “Is it healthy for women to have a hoe phase?”. Right, so first I asked myself what that even means. I thought the term was incredibly loaded, unclear, problematic - there was a lot to unpack, basically. In this episode, I talk about what healthy sex can look and feel like, conversations I’ve had with girlfriends, and important lessons I’ve learned about intimacy. As always, I’m so happy when you guys send me messages privately and tell me what you think of an episode, or what’s been going through your mind. This episode is very personal. I am very open because I think it’s important, not because it’s easy. I also mention, several times, that I could be wrong and that I am drawing from things I’ve been told by friends and acquaintances, as well as my own experience. But, of course, I can't know it all. Perhaps this will speak to some of you out there. Perhaps it'll help. Perhaps it'll "un-fuck" your brain; calm some of the worries and confusions. Let me know what you think!

This episode is the first part of a series on psychedelics. They’re all very short. My friend Charlotte, who studies zoology in her final year at the University of Aberdeen, shares her knowledge on the effects of psychedelics on humans and animals. In this episode specifically, we talk about what the word “psychedelic” means and what substances are considered to be psychedelics. Charlotte also shared some facts about reindeer urine and the Salem witch trials. It’s only 5 minutes, so have a listen!

In this episode, I outline a bunch of question prompts that I use to reflect on the year that’s past. It is a mindfulness and gratitude exercise- something that is perhaps especially needed after 2020. The questions also take you into the next year: we focus on who we want to evolve into, what we want to let go of, and what we want to focus on in the new year. I also share info on a free meditation and yoga retreat that I found out about recently. All the info is in this last episode of the year. Please give it a listen, share episodes that you’ve liked around, and let me know what topics you’d be interested in for next year.
Thank you for listening to Runa’s Ruminations.
Happy New Year everyone!

Did you know that some people dream in black and white? Or that you only dream about people you’ve seen before (on TV or in real life)? And what are lucid dreams?
Years ago, Hugo told me about lucid dreaming. I had never heard of it before, and he explained to me that it’s a state in which you can control the direction of your dream. Oh, and, Tim Burton does it too. It sounded cool but I never got into it. This afternoon, Hugo talked about dreams with me again: the different types and meanings of dreams, sleep paralysis demons, and he even shared his best and worst dream. If you want to get to know Hugo and I better, through our dreams, give this one a listen.
And in case you think the topic doesn’t concern because you “never dream”: the average person dreams 3-5 dreams per night but we tend to forget when we’re stressed out.

Today, Charlotte sat down with me, and in one of our side-tangents we ended up talking about the past semester at university. I think most of us, if not all of us, have been lacking motivation.
Feel less alone about being a procrastinator, and join Charlotte and I in our chat on 2020 lethargy!
Also, fun fact: Charlotte's in her final year studying zoology and we have a really interesting podcast episode coming up about the effect of psychedelics on animals and humans... stay tuned!

Freya walked me through her experience doing a portfolio course at GSA (Glasgow School of Art). What were the people like? What was the school like? This was such an interesting conversation for me because the only people I’ve talked to that do art as their degree are fashion designers. This was very much unchartered territory for me. So interesting! We also talked a bit about Berlin and Paris. Freya will be spending summer 2023 there doing art, she just doesn’t know it yet…

In this episode, Alex and I talk about the 3 foods that he recommends to pick up on your next grocery run, and the 3 foods to avoid. We discuss the idea of instant gratification: how food can work toward progress, health, and success OR limit you. In the end, many of us are enslaved by our own behaviour- and the worst part is that we think choosing whatever to eat whenever means happiness and freedom. This episode emphasises the power we have over our health, and ultimately, our life. It is a motivational one. Just in time for the holidays ;)

In this episode, my friend Alex debunks some of the myths we've encountered in relation to fitness supplements and vitamins. He explains how supplements such as BCAA's and protein powder work, he shares what Whey protein is made up of, and how it works in your body. We talked about the requirements of an average individual but Alex also shared how he personally supplements to meet his needs as an olympic weightlifter. Finally, we discussed vitamins: which are necessary, and which aren't. Alex also shared a study done on vitamins at the Technological University Dublin, where he studies sport and health science.
If you've found yourself drawn in by countless adds and confused by the varying information out there, give this one a listen!

In this episode, my friend Alex and I talked about the effects coffee has on our body. Is it good or bad? Why are some people so sensitive to it? Doe it help with dieting? Can it make you anxious? Alex also shares a little anecdote about English class in high school…
Listen until the end to hear me be dramatic and Alex say matter of factly: “If you get sick, don’t drink it.”

I study a joint honours programme in English and history at the University of Aberdeen. Today, Tomo asked me a couple questions about my experience. Perhaps it’ll be helpful for those of you who are considering a joint honours, or even UoA. Or perhaps you’d just like to hear what I’ve been up to this semester. I also talk about job prospects in relation to studying humanities aka the dreaded topic of “but who will employ you?”. So, this episode is also a bit of a pep talk for those who are afraid to follow their passion (like I used to be).

In this short episode, Alex sat down with me to explain Movember: who does it, what it’s about, and since when it’s been around.
We’ll be discussing the concept of “male” and “female” mental health, feminism, and what needs to change in society moving forward.
Hopefully this will be educational, raise awareness, and open up a discussion!
Enjoy :)

In this episode, Martina and I talk about the University of St Andrews. Have you always wanted to know where Will and Kate lived during their studies at “Standies”? Would you like to know what the teaching, application process, and social life is like? Are you considering studying in the UK and want to know Martina’s reasoning behind getting a British degree? And also, are the rumours about secret societies true?
Fast forward to x if you don’t care about the uni stuff and really just want to hear us contrasting British and European dating culture.

First of all, guys and girls/women, congratulations if you caught yourself thinking "hold on, that title is inaccurate". Yes, the vagina is the passage leading from the uterus to the vulva. The outside, the part most people MEAN when they SAY "vagina", is called vulva. So, really, this episode should be called "What If He Thinks My VULVA Is Ugly?" but I try to title my podcasts "user-friendly" so there we go. A man and his penis are an entity, a dynamic duo, a team. Female genitals are ... ugly, confusing, look like a sea creature, are a whole ecosystem in someone's pants?! There's an episode in "Sex and the City" where Charlotte admits to never having looked at herself, and I would argue that some of us females have looked at more penises than their own genitalia. Female masturbation is a taboo, periods are gross, child-birth makes you loose, and so on. Females are used to their genitals being looked over, disregarded, ignored. A good chunk of men don't look, just do. Don't explore, just assume. Don't ask, because it's none of their business. No wonder only 6% of females orgasm!
