It is difficult to be still in the middle of a storm, or the middle of a problem, or even when we need or want something. However, when God tells us to Be Still, He wants to show us that He is God. It’s not a matter of us making it happen. It is a matter of simply being still and watching God do it for us. Do you ask, why? Because He is good and wants to be exalted, we should never want Him to be still.
This week we focused on understanding what to do when God calls us to be still. Raise your head; open your eyes and ears and watch what He does. It will be amazing.
I want to encourage you to read this newsletter with your kids and do the devotional together. You are the most important earthly person in your child’s walk with Jesus.
Think About It:
Why does God Ask Us to Be Still?
What does He mean?
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
over the man who carries out evil devices!
–Psalm 37:7
O God, do not keep silent;
do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
–Psalm 83:1
Memory Verse:
Psa. 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
Small Group Questions:
1.What does God want us to do when He says for us to be still?
2.Why should we be thankful when God tells us to be still?
3.What was your favorite part of this lesson?
Devotional
This week’s devotional is about knowing who is God by simply being still. Not being in worry can be a demonstration of great trust in God.
“He made the storm be still,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.”
–Psa. 107:29
“And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
–Mark 4:39
Why do you think I included Psalm 107:29? Tell me and I might pay you.
After Christ stilled the storm, the disciples were afraid and wondered who He was because the sea even obeyed Him. -Mark 4:41
This week I want you to ask God what He wants you to be still about. When He asks you to be still, remember to thank Him and then wait and see.
Read over this week’s verses. Make sure to read them aloud, so your body can hear them. Remember faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Then pay attention to what God is doing when you have the chance to show someone love. Love could be helping someone, cleaning something up or just spending time with someone.
As a pastor, it is my very important job to teach you all that Jeshua(Jesus) has told us to do and to encourage you to do the very things you have learned. By doing the very things He wants us to do, we worship Him, and He calls us friends. God wants us to listen to Him. He may ‘speak’ to you through words, thoughts, feelings, colors, etc. Pay attention and seek Him. Remember the Kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21). You won’t have to look very far. Work this week to apply this lesson to your life. If you have a moment of fear, pray to God, and ask Him for help. He might remind you of His word like Romans 8:31, “If God is for us, who can be against US.”
In Him,
Pastor Curt
