II. Feeling grateful while still imprisoned. (Phil. 4:10-13, 19)

• Don't live under the circumstances. (II Cor. 11:24ff)
• Be content in any circumstance.
  • Be aware of the presence of God. (4:6-7, 9; Heb. 13:5-6)
  • Be aware of the provision of God. (4:19)
  • Be alert to the purposes of God. (2:12-13, 1:12-14; 4:22; Rom. 8:28; I Thess. 5:16-18)

Gratitude - Entitlement

1. Reflects realism. - Reflects self-deception.

2. Opens our eyes. - Blinds us.

3. Prompts worship of God. - Prompts worship of self.

4. Reflects humility. - Reflects pride.

5. Leads to praise. - Leads to whining.

6. Fosters contentment. - Fosters resentment.

7. Brings joy. - Breeds negativity.

8. Celebrates blessings. - Focuses on perceived slights.

9. Prompts generosity. - Prompts selfishness.

10. Promotes unity. - Promotes division.

Will I remain imprisoned by a sense of entitlement, or be freed by a heart of gratitude?
