L. & S. No. 195 page 6

  1. Jesus I my cross have taken,

All to leave and follow Thee;

Destitute, despised, forsaken,

Thou from hence mine all shalt be.

Perish every found ambition,

All I've sough, and hoped, and known;

Yet how rich is my condition!

God and heaven are still mine own.

  1. Let the world despise and leave me -

They have left my Saviour too;

Human hearts and looks deceive me;

Thou art not, like man, untrue!

And whilst Thou shalt smile upon me,

God of wisdom, love and might,

Foes may hate, and friends disown me,

Show Thy face, and all is bright.

  1. Man may trouble and distress me,

'Twill but drive me to Thy breast;

Life with trails hard may press me,

But in Thee I find my rest;

Oh! 'Tis not in grief to harm me,

Whilst Thy love is left to me;

Oh! 'Twere not in joy to charm me,

Were that joy apart from Thee.

  1. Here I find my full salvation,

Freed from self, the world and sin ;

Though assailed by fierce temptation,

Jesus keeps me pure within.

With His spirit dwelling in me,

With His smile to be my light,

Through His love who died to win me,

I shall conquer in the fight.

  1. Marching on from grace to glory,

Armed by faith and constant prayer,

Heavens eternal day before me,

Gods own hand shall guide me there;

Soon shall close my earthly mission,

Soon shall pass my pilgrim days,

Hope soon change to glad fruition;

Faith to sight, and prayer to praise.
