Welcome back to KK&F! For Episode 189 of the show, we’re sitting down with Project Liberal’s Joshua Reed Eakle for a good old-fashioned (and good-natured) debate. Does liberalism or social democracy offer a better path forward for our society? As the name suggests, Eakle is going to take us through the case for liberalism, as well as the basics of his organization. Setting out to “advance the cause of a free and open society,” Project Liberal champions a political ideology that pushes back against what it views as growing authoritarianism. In doing so, it avoids positioning itself either on the right or on the left, where, in its view, extremists lie. From our perspective, though, a central aspect of social democracy’s appeal is its distinguishing itself from both the right and the center in favor of a progressive politics built around strong social support networks.
