Like so many phrases in the English language (i.e. “That’s Awesome!”or “I Love you, this cheeseburger, and my job) “It’s A Must” has become overused. Literally meaning that whatever you are referring to should be taken out the category of optional into the category of mandatory. From “hey this is a pretty good idea you should do this” to “Whatever it takes, do this, get that, make it happen”, “No price to high.” People will do almost anything for that which they believe “is a must.” Believing it a must for his third wife, emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in India. Believing Safety from the Mongolians was “a must” the Ming Dynasty built most of the Great Wall of China. Believing that having the latest iphone when it first comes out it “a must” people have waited as much as 10 days in line. In our text for today, Jesus speaks of something in a completely separate category of “It’s a must”. The reality that hangs in the balance? Entrance into The Kingdom of God.
