Sunlight is beyond human ability to mimic. Both it’s strength and it’s diversity are unique. Only a small percentage of the energy that the Sun produces is visible. Scientists call this, appropriately, visible light: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet - the colors of the rainbow. It is this aspect of light that illuminates the darkness. But outside the visible range is an endless array of invisible wavelengths of light. Many of these invisible forms of light are just as crucial to life on earth. In particular, infrared and ultraviolet light are critical. In our passage for this week, Paul uses the metaphor of light to describe that which is in us as Christians and how our spiritual light, like physical Sunlight, should include the full range of wavelengths; especially, the visible, infrared, and ultraviolet.
