Thurman Thomas has been a Buffalo and Western New York fixture since he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1988. A native of Houston and a star running back at Oklahoma State University, he found a home here soon after he arrived and has stayed, taking the Bills to four Super Bowls, marrying Patty Mariacher of Elma, raising a family, and giving back to the community through the Thurman Thomas Family Foundation.  To high school-aged kids, born years after he retired in 2000, however, he is, at best, a legend, a figure from the past.
