Welcome to the Generation ACT podcast!

In the seventh episode of the series, we enthusiastically welcome Gabriel Vivas Martinez, our dear friend, colleague, and fellow activist, who is an actor, applied theater, and embodiment trainer.

“[…] If we are against one oppression, we are against all oppressions. So, I would say that the love revolution can not be completed if we leave out women, if we leave out LGBTQIA+, if we leave out people with disabilities, if we leave out black lives, if we leave out all the different diversities, expressions, genders. We need to address the fact that we are all different and all the same and to fulfill that dream of the revolution of love, we will have to unite us.[…]”

We are always inspired by his words, expertise, and the contribution he offers and creates for social change with youth and adult groups. We had a lovely time catching up back in June of last year, and among the topics we discussed were:

  • How can we welcome all the different expressions within the LGBT+ community, body expression, etc;
  • What do we mean when we say embodiment?
  • How using theater and body movement benefits social change and individual connections;
  • What it means to promote activism and social change through artistic actions and interventions;
  • Reflected on his work with different groups, migrants and refugee people, LGBTQIA+ people, people with disabilities, and more; The importance of intersectionality;
  • The responsibilities of facilitators and youth workers that when it comes to trauma, we need to acknowledge that as facilitators we do not know our participant's stories and backgrounds;
  • What it means to give generosity and tenderness in our bodies, allowing ourselves to be responsive and not judging ourselves;
  • What it means to celebrate our voices and who we are;
  • And many more;

[Generation ACT] explores individual stories of identity and activism.
