The annual Marshall Lectures in Cambridge University was set up in 1946 for the memory of Sir Alfred Marshall 1842 - 1924 who founded the Economics Tripos in 1902. Professor Marshall was one of the most influential economists of his time. He discoursed in a united framework on key neoclassical economics concepts such as supply and demand, marginal utility and the costs of production in his book, Principles of Economics in 1890, which was a standard textbook for several generations of students in economics in the world.
