The Overstory: A Novel

Linda Hoffman is an artist, poet, and the Apple Orchardist at Old Frog Pond Farm & Studies in Harvard, Massachusetts. Linda restored the abandoned orchard in 2001 to create Massachusetts’ first pick-your-own orchard. During fruit-picking season in the fall, the farm hosts an annual outdoor sculpture exhibit for visitors to enjoy, including digital prints, the Fine Art letterpress book, Winter Air, and three poetry chapbooks. She is a contributor to WBUR’s Cognoscenti and writes the Apples, Art, and Spirit blog.

Linda joins me today to share what trees can teach humans. Linda shares how her exploration into growing organically opened her eyes to all the parts of the whole and how they are all connected. She highlights the importance of pausing before acting and the benefits of patience. We discuss the idea of community, connectedness, and an appreciation for others. Linda shares her reflections on pruning trees to let in light to encourage new life and the lessons this has for humanity. Linda also reveals her upcoming book's details, tentatively titled The Artist in the Orchard, and the farm and art exhibit's reopening date.

“We can learn a lot from nature in terms of that sharing, that care, and that connectedness.” - Linda Hoffman
