When a loved one passes away, we are often filled with feelings of grief and high levels of emotions. Your loved one may have passed away suddenly and without warning or had a tough final few years. When the case is the latter, they say that passing is a blessing of sorts. But the truth is, there is also a life lesson or two to gain. I recently lost my mother, Pru, who wasn’t naturally maternal. My siblings and I, until the age of twelve, were raised by a nanny - a contracted employee. However, my mother was one of a kind who was bold and not afraid to be different, dress her way, laugh her way, and love her way. She was a beacon of hope and motivation and a fine example of living life to its fullest.
She will never be forgotten.
Today I share what I gained from losing a loved one. I discuss the communication and connection that exists in a way that biology, science, and logic cannot explain. I explore the different ways that people deal with grief, with some grieving alone while others grieve together. I discuss how grief is not a thing with a beginning and an end, but more a shifting of colors from dark to light, moving from what is lost to what was given to us and what has been gained. I also share how most of what we feel in life is a choice, where we can choose to be open, positive, and embrace others and highlight why we should choose to no longer be afraid of death - or anything else.
