Summer has a particular impact on us; the work-pace lessens, the days lengthen, and there is a sudden inclination to take the easy path. Hard seems inconvenient and unappealing, but the choices we make daily in seeking easy and avoiding hard can be a massive missed opportunity. Perceived inconvenience is a mask for fear on one hand or sacrifice in the other. Learning about anything requires deep, challenging, and sustained thought and mental effort.

Today I discuss why hard is better than easy in marriage, parenting, careers, friendship, and citizenship. I discuss the role of open communication and honesty in marriage and why both parties need to be seekers of the truth. I share how alignment is essential for effective parenting and taking on the role of an educator. I discuss what it takes to be a good manager and commit yourself to developing your team and the steps you should take to become a good citizen. I also share what it means to be a real friend and the actions you can take to become a real friend to others.

“Easy doesn’t solve the problem. Taking the easy route makes the whole thing harder.” - Chris Colbert
