In this episode, we'll discuss the Passions, or emotions, and how to channel them properly. This comes from St. Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica, and I think they're pretty comprehensive.
"Everything negative - pressure, challenges - is all an opportunity for me to rise."
-Kobe Bryant
Before we dive in, I think it's important to define a few terms.
Appetite- any inclination or tendency to some good or suitable object or away from some bad or unsuitable object.
Passion- Receptivity, being acted on by another; or intense movement of the sensitive appetite
Concupiscible Passion- Sense appetite seeking pleasure, which is found in the good
Irascible Passion- Sense desire to fight or escape danger
THE CONCUPISCIBLE PASSIONS 1. Love
Hatred and concupiscence
Pleasure
Sorrow
THE IRASCIBLE PASSIONS 1. Hope and despair
Fear
Daring
Anger
