Lacey Thomas, 24, is a native New Yorker who began her dance training at the Dance Theatre of Harlem School under the direction of Artistic Director emeritus Arthur Mitchell. She began to train at age three to later receive her graduate certificate from the Professional Training Program in 2013. At the age of twelve, Lacey was introduced to acting and singing as a member of the Lincoln Center Children’s Choir Division. She performed in operas such as Porgy and Bess and Macbeth. Although Lacey trained primarily in ballet, she also studied modern, jazz, tap, and African. While majoring in business management as a full time student at the City College of New York, she continued her professional training with the Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble in 2009 to later join Charlotte Ballet II in 2013. Lacey performed as a guest artist in Joseph Albano’s Ballet Company for the 2010 Nutcracker Season in Hartford, Connecticut and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in the summer 2013. While a member of Charlotte Ballet II, she performed in major ballets such as Balanchine’s Western Symphony and Jean-Pierre Bounefoux’s Cinderella. She also performed excerpts from contemporary works choreographed by Dwight Rhoden and Alonzo King. As a guest artist of Cartier William’s Dance Company, Lacey is thrilled to take part in William’s modern day production of Peter and the Wolf, an urban tale. During her continued effort to touch audiences through the art of dance, Lacey is honored to be a part of the Dance Theatre of Harlem School faculty for the 2014-2015 semesters as the first Hip Hop instructor.
