Today’s segments focus on school nursing and advocating for children during their early educational years. Our first guest is Dr. Erin D. Maughan, the director of research for the National Association of School Nurses. She leads the development of processes to ensure school programs focus on behavior change, school nurse empowerment, and looks for opportunities to provide health promotion skills for children and their families. She is joined by Denise K. Abbott, the science department chair at Timpview High School in the Provo School District. For over 33 years, she has taught pre-med students the foundation for healthcare learning and leadership and offers insight into helping students succeed in this environment. Also participating is Ellie Bodily, a registered nurse for the Utah County Health Department, a fitness instructor for Utah Valley University, and a BYU capstone clinical instructor and public health nursing instructor. She discusses educating others about healthy lifestyles and making a difference to teachers and students.

The College of Nursing at Brigham Young University presents nursing careers and professional insight to undergraduate students. This is the eleventh in The College Handoff series and was recorded in September and October of 2020.
