Remember those ghostly images Katie saw when she was visiting modern day Byblos with Rene? The apparitions came from the same place, 3,000 years earlier when Byblos, then called Gubla, was under control of the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten. Gubla was a major connection stop between Egypt and Mesopotamia, which was being torn apart by the war between the Hittites and the Mitanni. And there was the local Amurru nuisance. Being an Egyptian outpost, Gubla was not as protected as places closer to the Pharaoh. The further from Egypt a place was the more vulnerable it became to local turmoil. One band of renegades, the Amurru were particularly dangerous.
