I'm Lorenzo, and for the past seven years I've been a part of a public speaking club in a certain university, so as Solid Snake tells me, I'm pretty good at this speaking thing! I'll recount tales from my bizarre walk through the weird world of public speaking, and hopefully you'll pick up some tips on how to be a better speaker~

It's nearly the end of the year and it also means that it's Officer Election season! The Club is always looking for good people to be club officers so that they can take care of the club for the upcoming year! I talk about some of my experiences with different formats of the elections and some of the more common practices that make the elections great for everyone involved!

I'm back! For real this time! 'Lorenzo, you took a long vacation!' I know, now that I am properly rested up, it's time to release Season 2 of Light Up the Stage! This season will focus on stories and the things that I did during the plague season with The Club.
I thought I would open with the origin story of a workshop I did recently, the 'Put Your Heart On the Stage' workshop, which was a workshop I did on vocal variety (volume, pitch, rate, tone) for The Club. I go through the thought processes of setting a workshop up, some of the difficulties I faced, and how I eventually settled on the topic itself! If you ever wanted to pick my brain on how I create my speeches/workshops, this is a pretty good deep dive on it!

Open Day! An important event for all clubs! An Open Day is usually a big membership drive event, an elevated regular meeting, and with all things in The Club, preparation is key!This week I'll be talking about what goes into the making of an Open Day event, the elements of success for Open Day, as well as recount some tales from my own experience attending them!
A little longer podcast than usual, but next week I'll be taking a small break to plan for the next twelve episodes of the podcast, and I will post a short interview with one of our members about the IELTS exam instead of my usual content about The Club!

In The Club, there are many times where you are called up to be the host, or Toastmaster of the meeting. This week, I talk all about how to be a good host! In a nutshell, a good host is someone who is able to carry the atmosphere of the meeting, smooth out awkward silences/ gaps in the meeting, and act as a good example of how to conduct oneself on the stage!

This week I'm giving tips on how to talk about things you love... on the stage! One of the earliest pieces of advice new speakers get is to speak about something they love, but that piece of advice is deeper than it sounds! Trying to memorize a script on stage is hard! I go through the pros and cons of memorizing a script word by word, and some practical advice from me on how I do it! (I don't lol, I just memorize the outline, works for me!)

We are back from the mid-autumn festival vacation! This week, I will be talking about an important program in The Club, Speechcraft!
It's a multi-week program hosted by The Club as a way to promote our club to outside guests and new members basic public speaking skills! I go through the orthodox way that Speechcraft is conducted, some lessons learnt from how we conduct them and lastly, I look at how some other student clubs conduct them.

The Club I'm in is a student club and since I've been there for some time, I've kind of come to realize that certain events and patterns will happen again and again in a student club, and we shouldn't fear this cycle, but rather plan around it!

This week I discuss a phenomena in The Club where sometimes evaluators "fail" a speaker and ask them to repeat a speech. (which I disagree with!) I go through the reasoning why it is a pretty bad practice and the possible reasons why people do it.
Consider this an extension to the "Letter for Evaluation".

The World Championships of Public Speaking ended last week! It was a pretty close matchup between all the final 8 contestants, and so long as it is fresh in my mind, I thought I would do a breakdown of the techniques used onstage that day!
