It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 NIV
In a bid to challenge the church at Thessalonica to a higher way of life; sexual purity, he requires them to learn how to control their own bodies.
Seems following the every whim of your body is quite ungodly. Equally, it seems knowing God should help, motivate and convince us to not let our body's impulses and desires have the final say.
Whether it's pursuing a prospect just because you have the 'hots' for them, _and just that_. Whether it's allowing yourself to be rude and grumpy because you're hungry, _and that's just how it is_. Whatever it is, we shouldn't let our bodies rule over us.
Let's be given to self control. Have regular fast. Commit to prayer and Scripture reading even when sleep strongly beckons. Keep away from all forms of sexual immorality.
If we claim to know God - that He is supreme over all things - even before we tell it to the world, we proclaim it to our own bodies.
