Dimitri was raised as a Greek Orthodox. At the age of 10 he lived in Greece where people were more liberal when it came to alcohol and drinking in general. By 11 years old, having a beer was a regular thing for him. He moved back to the states eventually and by freshman year of high school, he got into “party drugs” which eventually led to smoking crack/cocaine and an addiction to heroin after his time in prison.
Robyn Bakes, Dimitri’s wife, through the ups and downs, never gave up on Dimitri during his various relapses. She was an instrumental part of Dimitri’s recovery journey.
