This episode highlights the Family Farm Schools started in 1986 and inspired by the French Maisons Familiales Rurales and Spanish Escuelas Familiares Agrarias. It was adopted to the local setting and envisioned to address poverty in the community by strengthening family values, catalyzing community development through agriculture, engaging in enterprise education and investing in personal formation through the pedagogy of alternancia. 

It operates the Dagatan Family Farm School in Lipa City and Balete Family Farm School in Balete, Batangas. And similar schools in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro and Dingle, Iloilo.  They offer secondary education to children of families in agriculture and agri-business.  They employ a special approach called "alternancia", a dual training system that is communal and family oriented in context. Students stay at home with their families, work in their farm/family enterprise (home period) for a week then attend classes (school period) for the following week taking into account observations and learning from the community and their own family.

For this episode, we talked to Mr. Renato Maranan, president of Family Farm Schools, and Ms. Ma. Karen de Chavez, school director of Balete Family Farm School.
