This was exclusively a preaching session emphasizing the major tenet of Postmillennialism. This is the eschatology of victory. This session set the stage for the week long module consisting of 27 lectures. In this first session, there is an emphasis on preaching and the victory of the Gospel. One's present worldview does impact one's future activity. We are on the winning side in history because Jesus has all the power. The Great Commission will be fulfilled prior to His Second Coming.
This session discusses the relationship of Covenant Theology to Eschatology. The covenant of works is briefly discussed, and then an introduction to the covenant of grace demonstrates that this covenant spans both the Old and New Testaments. The Old looks to a coming Messiah, while the New looks back to the Messiah who has come. The Adamic covenant introduces the historical war between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent.
The Christian does not need to worry over difficult circumstances. We don't have to be afraid of anything. The key is having faith in God's Promises. Such faith produces courage. God's sovereignty and belief in it is the key.
One of the great themes of the Bible is the divine promise of victory for Christ and His church. King Jesus will and is winning the spiritual battles being waged on earth. His church is the key element in this victory of Christ. The church is on the offensive not the defensive. Jesus' promise in Matthew 16-18 is drawn from the divine promise of Genesis 22-17.
The Pharisees, Scribes, and Sadducees were wanting Jesus to perform signs, but Jesus would not comply but why- Evil generations seek for signs.
When Jesus had an intense encounter with the Scribes and Pharisees over ceremonial hand cleansing, Jesus sternly rebukes them indicating that they have missed entirely the most important truth of all - words and choices flowing out of a heart having been transformed by God's power. Our words give away the condition of our hearts.
One of the biggest threats to observing God's law is the elevation of man's traditions above Scripture. In doing so, tradition always trumps Scripture. Jesus had strong words for such men and their traditions.
Where there is faith there is no fear. The essence of faith is a confidence in the promises of God. The opposite of faith is doubt and fear which paralyzes. Learn about how Jesus taught His disciples about faith and some of the great failures of faith by even some of the great men of the Bible.
Jesus' teaching in his hometown synagogue of Nazareth amazed the people but they could not believe in Him because of His upbringing and family identification. Men don't see Jesus unless they are freed of their bondage to sin and enabled to see.
The parables of the mustard seed and leaven are unfortunately some of the misunderstood parables of Jesus, but they don't need to be. The problem is Dispensational Premillennialism's false interpretation of these. The biblical understanding is simple- God's kingdom will grow from small beginnings to greatness in the world.
How can you distinguish a genuine Christian from a mere professor of the faith- The Parable of the Sower and the Seed is Jesus' explanation as to the genuine Christian. You had better do some examination as the Bible commands to determine if you are the right soil otherwise you stand condemned.
Jesus' Parable teachings either reveal or conceal truth depending upon whether one is an elect or a reprobate respectively. The concealing of truth from reprobates is God's judicial judgment upon those who have hardened their hearts.
How important is Jesus to you- More important than your parents, and siblings- If not, then you don't understand Christian discipleship and are dishonoring Jesus.
Jesus made a remarkable statement that His present generation was an evil generation because it demanded signs in order to consider whether it would believe in Jesus as the Christ. What constitutes an evil generation according to Jesus-
Did you know you can learn about a person's innermost character by simply listening to what they talk about- Jesus said that the mouth speaks from what fills the heart. We give away all the time our level of spiritual maturity by our speech. Bad trees produce bad fruit. Our speech is the fruit that reveals the condition of our hearts. It is no mystery.
Some Christians fear, and even some non-Christians that they have committed the unforgivable sin that Jesus refers to. Just what is this sin- Can Christians commit it-
During Jesus' minstry he cast out demons and by so doing said that the kingdom of God had arrived and that Satan was bound. Learn how Satan's binding beginning with Christ's ministry is the beginning of the millennium. Learn how important it is for Satan's binding for our salvation and the extension of Christ's kingdom.
How should we understand the Sabbath today- Many think it is no longer for New Testament Christians based on what Jesus allowed His disciples to do. Is the Sabbath a ceremonial law or a moral law- How should Christians observe it today-
Nothing is the same when someone comes preaching Jesus whether it is John the Baptist, one of Jesus' disciples, or Jesus Himself. The greatest sin in the world is refusing to repent and believe in the gospel.
John the Baptist was no ordinary prophet as Jesus said. In fact, Jesus said that there was no one born greater than John the Baptist. How so- And, how is the least in the kingdom greater than John according to Jesus-
Jesus lays out what it means to be His disciple, that is, a genuine Christian. There are no secret Christians, and Jesus must have first priority, even above family members. Jesus preaches through His little ones, His preachers.
When Jesus sent out His twelve apostles to preach the gospel, He said they were being sent out as sheep in the midst of wolves that they would be hated because of Him. All of the things Jesus refered to occured in the Book of Acts up to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70AD.
The first missionaries of the Gospel of the kingdom of God besides the Lord Jesus Christ's ministry were the 12 disciples sent out by Jesus two by two. They went told only to go to the lost house of Israel and not to the Gentiles or Samaritans, which would come later. Why- Also, Judas Iscariot was one of these preachers empowered by Jesus. How could that be- Also, the worse sin anyone could ever commit is to hear the gospel and not repent and believe. Sodom and Gomorrah will be beaten with fewer lashes in hell than these.
As the US contemplates a military intervention into the internal affairs of Syria, it is putting itself in great peril because God is not on its side. America's spiritual decline is escalating which makes her very vulnerable to God's judgment. Unless America repents, terrifying things are likely to come upon her. As the government persecutes the faithful church and her preachers, God is aroused to rescue His bride. The church will prevail in America despite whatever serious judgment God brings upon it for its abandonment of God's law.
What kind of faith breaks through with Jesus- It is one that believes and trusts that He is the only answer. Learn how a desperate synagoue official with a dying daughter and a poor woman afflicted with a long disease broke through and experienced wonderful blessings.
Some men will do almost anything to get to Jesus to minister to them while others have hearts cold as ice. Jesus came to save sinners, but one must understand they are in need of a Savior.
As the Messiah, the Son of God and Son of Man, Jesus would do many things demonstrating that He was Lord of all. This includes His authority over the demonic realm. The demonic realm understands that Jesus is the Son of God. The demons that possessed people immediately knew who Jesus was. There is no eternal struggle between good and evil going on with the outcome in the balance. The devil and his minions can do nothing but what Jesus allows.
Being a genuine Christian means that we not only confess the Lordship of Christ but that we live under that Lordship. We cannot set the terms for being a disciple of Christ- only Jesus as the Lord, our Master can do that. Many fall short because they want Christ on their own terms. Learn what Jesus demands.
Jesus just finished His magnificent Sermon on the Mount and great crowds were following Him so they become witnesses of what He does in His healing minstry, and in this case with the healing of the leper, the centurion's slave, and Peter's mother-in-law. Jesus' healing ministry was a far cry from modern churches whose attempts to having healing services cannot remotely approach what Jesus did. Jesus did not broadcast His healings- did not take up donations, etc. And the healings were spectacular to put it mildly. Faith was required of those being healed and the centurion's faith, who was a Roman gentile, army commander had a faith that amazed Jesus, and was unmatched among the Jewish people.
This may be the scariest passage in the Bible because it demonstrates that Jesus says many who call Him Lord on Judgment Day appealing to prophesing in His name, casting out demons in His name, and doing miracles will be told by Jesus that He never knew them. They will be sent to hell because they never were genuine Christians even though they considered themselves to be such. How do we examine ourselves to be sure we are the elect on Judgment Day-
Jesus and the apostles warned about the danger of false prophets who as Jesus said will come as wolves in sheep's clothing. Jesus said you will know them by their fruit, which is what- It is their doctrine and the ungodly lifestyles.
The whole notion of pluralism -many ways to God- is an unbiblical concept though very popular today. The exclusiveness of Christianity has always been its distinctive and cause for its persecution by the world. Also, the text does not mean that the number of elect will be few in human history. Jesus was dealing with those Jews of His time that refused to believe in Him.
Jesus taught us to continually ask, seek, and knock in prayer. Most Christians don't understand the power of prayer. Learn about some of the greatest prayers in the Bible and in church history.
Some think any kind of judging is wrong, citing Jesus' comments in Matthew 7, but this is not true. What is Jesus condemning- When can we judge-
Anxiety or worrying is a grievous sin. Anxiety is the opposite of faith. The key to not worrying is to believe the promises of God. This is what Jesus is commanding us to do- trust in a faithful God.
Worrying is a sin. It is not living by faith in God's promises. Jesus tells us how to not be anxious.
One of the most dangerous views being taught today is that of theistic evoltuion, that God used the process of evolution to form all life. This is a lie and has no biblical support. Just what is a true biblical account of creation-
Sadly today there is a view in various churches and institutions known as theistic evolution. This view believes that God used the process of evolution to create all life. The problem begins with these people refusing to accept the 'days' of creation as normal 24 hr. periods. Learn that the Bible has sound support of viewing the days of creation as 6 ordinary days. Also, there are NO time gaps in the chronology of the genealogies of the early chapters of Genesis. The earth is only 6000 years old according to the Bible.
Some think that the conflict between creationism and evolution is that of science vs faith. This is untrue. Evoution is a faith system, not a scientific fact - something admitted by many evolutionists. The conflict is between worldviews or systems of thought.
What many people don't know is that Charles Darwin early in his life was studying to be an Anglican priest. He once held to the authority of the Bible, but his life is one tragic story of his descent into apostasy. How did that happen- For one, it started with his questioning of the authority of Scripture, his questioning of the early chapters of Genesis, and his questioning of the doctrine of hell.
There were others before Charles Darwin who taught a type of evolution, such as his grandfather, Erasmus Darwin- however, the world was not ready to receive such a revolutionary view. There were various philophers and philosphies that paved the way for the accetptability of Darwinism
One of the organizations touting theistic evolution is the Biologos Foundation. It is one of the most dangerous organizations in the country because it calls itself 'evangelical.'
There are those today who espouse a view known as theistic evolution that God used the process of evolution to create all life forms, including man. Evolution is often touted as a scientific fact, which it isn't. Charles Darwin made several admissions that would astound many.
One of the most well known preachers today is Dr. Tim Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church -PCA- in Metro New York Presbytery. He advocates various forms of theistic evolution, which many people probably do not know.
One of the compromisers on the doctrine of creation is Dr. Ron Choong, a teaching elder in the PCA in Metro New York Presbytery. I analyze his views as one of the most radical theistic evolutionists.
One of the compromisers on the doctrine of creation is Dr. Gregg Davidson. He is a committed theistic evolution. I give detailed analysis of his views, particularly his book, -When Faith and Science Collide.-
One of the theistic evolutionists who has compromised on the doctrine of creation is Dr. Gregg Davidson. This is part 2 of my analysis of his views, particularly his book, -When Faith and Science Collide.-
This is Part 1 of one who has compromised on the biblical doctrine of creation. Jack Collins is professor at Covenant Seminary in St. Louis. I give detailed analysis of his book, -Did Adam and Eve Really Exist--
One of the compromisers on the doctrine of creation is professor Jack Collins of Covenant Seminary in St. Louis. He is one of the more subtle compromisers, but he has compromised. This is part 2. I give detailed analysis of his book, -Did Adam and Eve Really Exist--
One of the theistic evolutionists that has denied the historicity of Adam is Dr. Peter Enns. His views are the logical conclusion of denying the biblical doctrine of creation. He is one of the worse theistic evolutionists in terms of the radical nature of his views.
In the year 2000 the PCA General Assembly adopted various recommendations of its creation study report. While there are some good aspects of the report, the major weakness is that it allowed a diversity of belief on the meaning of the days of creation. What this has done is open wide the door for evolutionists to promote their view of thiestic evolution even though the report forbade any view of evolution.
This is message 16 in my lecture series on Theistic Evolution- A Sinful Compromise. I summarize the key elements why this view is a sinful compromise of the doctrine of creation.
This is the last of 17 messages on the sinful compromise of theistic evolution. The fundamental problem with this view is that it denies the sole authority of Scripture, making scientific views as the basis for re-interpreting the Bible. The best apologetic against this is a presuppositional approach where the Bible is the Word of God because it says so. The Bible is self attesting. This is the view of Scripture and the Westminster Confession of Faith.
Who is your Lord- What is your treasure- What are your goals in life---Where do you spend most of your efforts and why- We cannot have two masters said Jesus. We cannot serve God and money. And how do you use your financial resources-
Jesus said that our prayers must not be like the Pharisees who pray in order to be seen of men. He teaches us how to pray by using what is commonly known as the Lord's prayer
Jesus said that unless our righteousness exceeded that of the Pharisees, we would not enter the kingdom of heaven. Having the wrong motives of being seen of men is one sure way to have God disapprove of us and send us to hell. Almsgiving, prayer, and fasting are three religious activities where the motives must be pure.
Is there a higher ethic in the NT as opposed to the OT- No. Jesus is correcting Pharaisaical misunderstanding and miss application of the Mosaic Law. Loving one's enemies is in the OT. Both Testaments instruct us not to show personal revenge but to leave that to God, who will avenge us if necessary. Jesus said not to resist evil and turn the other cheek. Does this prohibit self, family, and national defense- What did Jesus mean in telling us to not resist evil-
Jesus said that unless our righteousness exceeded that of the Pharisees and Scribes we would not enter the kingdom of God. The Pharisees believed that the commandments of God were not violated unless physical adultery was committed. Jesus informs us that adultery is of the heart- it begins in the heart. How do we deal with such a sin of the heart-
Ever thought about the scope, breath, and strictness of the sixth commandment- Thou Shall Not Murder- Learn how sinful anger in all its forms is a breaking of this commandment. Jesus said that it can make one in danger of the fires of hell. It is that serious.
Jesus did not come to abolish the Law, namely the moral and judicial law. He fulfilled the ceremonial law as the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world, but with reference to the moral and judicial law -the case laws- Jesus kept them in exahaustive detail and expected Christians to do the same.
Without Christians individually and constitued as the church, our culture cannot be won to Christ, and the culture will sink into the depths of depravity. Salt is a preservative and enhances taste to food. How does the church act as salt to a putrifying world- Jesus is the Light of the World, and the church is the light as well. Just how do we let our light shine- How do we make a difference- Could it be that one is a nominal Christian and not a genuine Christian-
One of the most conspicuous indicators that Christianity is the true religion is that Christians will be, not maybe, be persecuted. Satan hates Christ and His church. Those of the world love their own, and since Christians are not of the world, the world hates genuine Christians. Despite the suffering, great reward awaits those persecuted for righteousness sake.
The beatitutdes in Jesus' Sermon On the Mount are truths that reflect how one enters the kingdom of God, and how one is seen as a citizen of the kingdom. Jesus said that peacemakers are blessed in that they are the sons of God. This means if one is not a peacemaker, then they demonstrate they are not genuine children of God. One must first be at peace with God before he can be a peacemaker.
Jesus said that those pure in heart are the ones who will see God. How do I know if I have a pure heart- Can I know if my loved ones have a pure heart. Does this mean I must work hard on having a pure heart- It is not what you may think.
Jesus said blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be satisfied. What does it mean to hunger for God, to thirst for Him- You have to do it to become a Christian and to demonstrate that you are a Christian. Regarding the merciful, they shall receive mercy. I call this the great kingdom law of reciprocity. Those who show mercy, receive mercy. In fact, Judgment Day is in those terms - those who showed merciful enter into the kingdom forever.
In Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, who are the poor in spirit, those who mourn, and the meek- These are Christian graces that demonstrate that we are genuine believers.
The greatest sermon of all time has to be the one Jesus taught His disciples known as the Sermon on the Mount. This is an introduction with an emphasis upon the fact that the sermon was designed to describe what a Christian actually looks like.
Why did Jesus perform miracles- Was it simply because He cared for people's physical welfare, which is true- However, there was a greater purpose. It proved His Messiahship and the fact that the kingdom of God had actually arrived.
Why did Jesus go to Galilee and take up residence in Capernaum- To fulfill prophecy that's why. How is the gospel the great light that put men into such a state of accountability-
We know that the devil is the great tempter, but he cannot make us sin as Christians. The basic source of our temptations come from within, from the lusts of the flesh. Learn what these are and how to do successful spiritual combat with the devil.
The Holy Spirit sends Jesus into the wilderness after His baptism to have an encounter with the devil but why- Could the God-man succumb to temptation- Jesus as the mediator of the new covenant must prevail for our salvation. Moreover, we see a pattern how we are to fight temptation.
Why would Jesus want to be baptized by John the Baptist- He is the God-man- He is sinless-therefore, why be baptized. John the Baptist initially tried to stop Jesus stating that he -John- needed to be baptized by Jesus. Jesus said that He must be baptized so that all righteousness might be fulfilled. Lear how this is the case.
John the Baptist came preaching repentance for the kingdom of heaven had arrived. He paved the way for the Messiah, Jesus. What is genuine repentance- How do we distinguish between a real and fake repentance- Why weren't the Pharisees and Sadducees welcomed to be baptized by John- And, How did the Messiah baptize with the Spirit and fire-
What is the significance of John the Baptist's ministry- Jesus said that his ministry marked the onset of the preaching of the kingdom. John's ministry paved the way for the Messiah but how-
Two of the great biblical doctrines in Scripture are God's sovereingty and man's accountability. How are these to be reconciled as friends- And how are they exercised in Christ's birth so that both are simultaneously affirmed and neither doctrine is diminished-
We need to always distinguish between biblical fact and church tradition. Unfortunately, tradition has greater sway than biblical fact. Concerning Christ's birth, how many wise men were there- Did they come to a manger- Were there shepherds there at the same time- What kind of ruler was King Herod- Just what did these wise men actually know about the birth of the King of the Jews- And why did they want to worship Him-
Biblical prophecy is one of the surest proofs of predestination. God's plan and promises must come to pass exactly as God says. How could Jesus be virgin born, from the -fruit of David's body,-from the royal line of David, and cirumvent what must surely be an impossible roadblock for all of this to come to pass- How can Jesus be a literal descent from a sinner, be a true man, and not be a sinner- Find out.
The gospel account of Matthew has the purpose of convincing Jews that Jesus Christ is the Messiah. Matthew traces Jesus' amazing ancestry back to Abraham, seeking to show that Jesus as the Messiah must be from the line of Abraham and David. Jesus' ancestry included many sinners and some very evil men. How can this be-
The Christian life is one of being devoted to God and to the Saints. One must be sold out to Jesus- it is what is expected of a Christian. Devotion to a ministry of service to the saints begins first with a devotion to the Lord Himself. A justified life leads to godly fruit - namely ministering to the needs of the saints.
The great need of the hour both in the family, church, and state is for real men to stand up. Manhood is defined by God, and it often is a far cry from what the world calls a man. Are you a real man- The Scripture defines manhood quite well.
One of the fruit of the Holy Spirit when He regenerates a deadened soul is that the born again person has a heart of compassion for the needs of others, particularly fellow Christians. Historically, Christians are givers. Just what does the Bible say about Christian giving-
The resurrection of the Christian should be one of the great motives for godly living and getting us through tough trials. Learn exactly how Jesus as the Second Adam succeeded while the first Adam brought sin and misery upon the human race.
What kind of body will Christians have at the resurrection- It looks similar to our present body but only glorified - incorruptible, immortal.
Without the resurrection our lives as Christians would be completely meaningless. Paul says that if there is no resurrection then we might as well eat, drink, for tomorrow we die. The doctrine of the resurrection gives hope to this life that this is not all there is.
This is the third and final message on one of the greatest passages demonstrating the timing of Christ's Second Coming and the victorious nature of Jesus' millennial reign, which is before His Second Coming. Jesus is pictured in Revelation as One who rides a white horse going forth conquering to conquer, but what is the mechanism by which Jesus is victorious in history prior to His Second Coming- Jesus uses His church as the instrument of victory. Through faithful preaching Jesus subdues all His enemies as prophesied in Psalm 110. Through His church Jesus fills all in all. The gospel is the power of God, and the gates of Hell don't stand a chance against Jesus' church.
When is Jesus' Second Coming- What is the nature of Jesus' millennial kingdom reign- When does that millennium come with reference to Christ's Second Coming- Will the gospel be victorious or not during this millennial reign- Learn the answers to all of these questions in this message.
When is Christ's Second Coming- The Bible generally tells us without fixing a precise date. There is much confusion regarding the millennial views, but there is nothing complex about these matters. We often complicate the simplicity of Scripture. The Scripture clearly presents a view known as postmillennialism. Learn why things that are seemingly confusing become all clear when we just let the Scripture speak to us without imposing our complex theological systems upon Scripture.
How important is Christ's resurrection- One must believe it in order to be saved, and without Christ's resurrection all preaching is useless and we are still in our sins. In this message, we will prove the absolute necessity of Christ's resurrection.
The gospel that saves our souls is one that focuses on two fundamental truths- Christ's crucifixion and His resurrection. We believe this primarily due to Scriptural testimony even though His resurrection was witnessed by many. The gospel that saves demands that we persevere to the end. Our justification not based on our perseverance, but it is the proof we are saved. We must test ourselves to see if we are in the faith. Have you passed the exam-
Worship is to be orderly according to this portion of Scripture. When tongues and prophecy were once part of church worship, there was an order to be followed. The principle of order is still to be maintained as God prescribes not as we think best.
Are there two types of tongues speaking- What was its nature- When did they cease- Were tongues inspired revelations- How was tongues a curse to Israel and a blessing to the Gentile world-
Paul told the Corinthians to pursue earnestly the greater gifts, and that, prophecy was greater than tongues. But why- Moreover, what did prophecy and tongues have in common and where did they differ. This is the first part in a series of expositions on I Corinthians 14. Learn why there are not two types of tongue speaking.
Are the miraculous gifts of the Spirit still operating today- Or, have they ended, and if so, when- The bible does answer the question in understanding what the -perfect- is that does away with the partial.
The greatest thing that a Christian can strive for is to manifest the multiple faces of the love of God. Love is the fulfillment of the law. Love bears, believes, hopes, and endures all things. Do you manifest what a real friend is- Do you believe and hope for the best in others- Real love hangs in with people in their greatest trials.
What does it mean that love bears all things- It entails the notion of covering, concealing sin. One of the greatest ways we violate this admonition is by gossiping. Gossip is a breaking of the 6th commandment- thou shalt not kill. To bear all things means that love has a forgiving nature and puts up with much.
It is a common notion today unfortunately where people want to define love on their own terms, but the Bible defines love as that which does not rejoice or sanction unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. The loving thing is always without exception a compliance to God's standard, the Bible.
Love doesn't act unbecomingly and thereby shame Jesus. It doesn't hold grudes by keeping a book of an account of wrongs suffered. There are so many ways we can act that shames our Lord. Are you a forgiving person- Really- Let's see.
Love does not brag, nor is it arrogant. Learn just why God hates the proud and exalts the humble. The essence of unbelieving thought is pride.
Jealousy is one of the most devastating sins. It is not only an internal dissatisfaction with one's state in life, but it breaks out into terrible sins against one's neighbor. Is jealousy wrecking your life- Do you resent what others have- Do you gossip about others who are given what you think you deserve- Are you envious of the unbeliever- See how prevalent this sin is in the Bible.
Love is kind, but is your kindness reflect God's kindness- This is so vital that kindness as seen in the righteous is the proof that we are a justified people who will inherit eternal life.
