9th gym session. Feeling great. Took 10 minutes for dynamic warmup, broke a sweat. Then started first circuit doing explosive box squats. The height was as high as I would go. It's to mimic what the jumping movement would be. You're not doing a full squat. You're just dipping down low enough to gather the strength to drive straight up. The weights and reps, started at 185lbs. Then doing 6 reps. Then progressed that by the fourth set doing 245 for 6 reps. The emphasis is loading and exploding up. So, even with 245 on my back, able to push that weight and drive it. If I wasn't holding it down with my arms at all the bar would keep going. The idea isn't to jump with the bar on your back, but it's that type of momentum going up you need. Did a lot of other lower body jumping explosive type things. I won't get into the details of it. Did a granny toss medball, just going straight up as hard as you can and driving your hips. Then taking resisted bands, jumping with those. Again, driving the hips, going straight up. The second circuit paired in some good countermovements with doing pushes and pulls on my upper body. Did some incline pushes with dumbbells. Then did a seated row. That felt good on the middle of the back. Overall today was pretty heavy volume. I felt like my body held up. I talked about this last week. Finally feel like things are waking up a bit. Rest and recovery are super important. Going into a workout, if I'm feeling well rested, it makes all the difference for me. I can push through, even if I don't have that rest on my side. When you do, though, you don't feel destroyed by the end of it. Tomorrow I'll be getting in the pool. Go swim 10 or 15 laps. Then Wednesday get back in the gym.
