William A. (“Sandy”) Darity Jr. is the Samuel DuBois Cook Professor of Public Policy, African and African American Studies, and Economics and the director of the Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity at Duke University. He has served as chair of the Department of African and African American Studies and was the founding director of the Research Network on Racial and Ethnic Inequality at Duke. Previously he served as director of the Institute of African American Research, director of the Moore Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program, director of the Undergraduate Honors Program in economics, and director of Graduate Studies at the University of North Carolina. at Chapel Hill.
Darity’s research focuses on inequality by race, class and ethnicity, stratification economics, schooling and the racial achievement gap, North-South theories of trade and development, skin shade and labor market outcomes, the economics of reparations, the Atlantic slave trade and the Industrial Revolution, the history of economics, and the social psychological effects of exposure to unemployment.
He was a visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation (2015-2016), a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (2011-2012) at Stanford, a fellow at the National Humanities Center (1989-90) and a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors (1984). He received the Samuel Z. Westerfield Award in 2012 from the National Economic Association, the organization's highest honor, Politico 50 recognition in 2017, and an award from Global Policy Solutions in 2017. He is a past president of the National Economic Association and the Southern Economic Association. He also has taught at Grinnell College, the University of Maryland at College Park, the University of Texas at Austin, Simmons College and Claremont-McKenna College.
He has served as Editor in Chief of the latest edition of the International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences, (Macmillan Reference, 2008) and as an Associate Editor of the 2006 edition of the Encyclopedia of Race and Racism (2013).
His most recent book, coauthored with A. Kirsten Mullen, is From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the 21st Century (2020). Previous books include For-Profit Universities: The Shifting Landscape of Marketized Education (2010) (co-edited Tressie McMillan Cottom), Economics, Economists, and Expectations: Microfoundations to Macroapplications (2004) (co-authored with Warren Young and Robert Leeson), and Boundaries of Clan and Color: Transnational Comparisons of Inter-Group Disparity (2003) (co-edited with Ashwini Deshpande).He has published or edited 13 books and published more than300 articles in professional outlets.

Stic is from the Legendary Hip Hop Duo Dead Prez. Many say they are one of the best Hip Hop duos ever. Their music merged gangster rap and consciousness into its own category and sound. Many people regard the song that Stic produced on Dead Prez's let's get free album as one of the greatest Hip Hop songs ever. Dave Chappelle used this song as an intro for the Chappelle Show. Stic has gone on to become an author, a long-distance running coach, and a martial artist. He is also the founder of Fit-Hop. Fit-Hop merges fitness and Hip-Hop into one unique and motivating experience for listeners.

Dr. Maat graduated from Morgan State University with a Doctorate in Engineering. Now she is a professor of Engineering at Morgan State University. She comes from a family of educators and activists and is continuing the work with her own community activism. She is also the founder of EdAnime Productions, a family owned and operated company that develops animations focusing on black history. One of the popular series that EdAnime has produced is called Meltrek. Meltrek explores Ancient Africa, Pre-Columbian Americas, and more. Albert Phillips was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and received primary education in the Baltimore City Public Schools System. He earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Baltimore City Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Print Journalism from Morgan State University, and a Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University.
Upon graduating from Morgan State in 2013, Albert shifted his primary career passion from writing for numerous local and national publications to the development of inner-city youth. He served various roles working directly with Baltimore City youth while employed by the YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Choice Program. In 2015, he earned a state and national award for exemplary community service throughout Baltimore City.
In 2016, Albert transitioned into education to work within the same school system that taught him. He worked as a paraprofessional, teacher, and administrator in Baltimore City Public Schools for about four years.
Currently, Albert works as a Work-Based Learning Specialist with Baltimore City Public Schools, helping students gain access to work-based learning opportunities including career exploration, professional development, and career preparation.
Albert is also founder and CEO of Free Black Mind Educational Group, a social enterprise startup that provides digital and print resources designed to empower and educate Black youth. His first self-published book, Y’all Hiring? The Black Teen’s Guide to Navigating Employment was released in October 2020.
Albert is a man of the people and is devoted to helping to drastically change the lives of youth living in communities devastated by racism and white supremacy.

James Kagambi(KG), the founder and owner of KG Mountain Expeditions, has become the first Kenyan to summit the Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. Kagambi reached the 29,032 feet peak on Thursday, May 12, 2022 after a gruelling 40-day journey. Since the 1990s, KG has led climbs on Mount Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro, Ruwenzori and the most recent Mount Everest. KG has received recognition and honors in Kenya for his long-term contributions to the fields of rock climbing and mountaineering. In 1987 KG (James Kagambi) began his guiding career in Kenya as a NOLS field instructor. His patience and teaching ability grew from his experience as a grade school teacher, coaching sports, and teaching traditional Africa music. Since his first trips as a guide he reached the ranks of a senior mountaineering instructor at NOLS. In addition to his work at NOLS, he leads Mountain Madness trips to Mount Kenya and the Rwenzoris in Uganda. He has also completed three of the Seven Summits and in 1992 represented Africa in the U.N Peace Climb for the World on the Eiger. KG has summited the Eiger three times, was the first black African to summit Denali in 1989, and was the first black African to summit Aconcagua in 1994. He is actively involved in training Kenya’s mountain rescue teams. Most recently he had the pleasure of meeting Kenya’s president after carrying the 50th Anniversary flag celebrating the country’s independence to the summit of Mount Kenya.

After being inspired from his student government club in High School, Young 18 year old Jaylen Smith ran for Mayor of Earle Arkansas and won! This made him the youngest Black mayor in US history. Jaylen Smith's mayoral priorities include: improving public safety and transportation, beautification and renewal of underused housing, emergency preparedness, and addressing the food desert in Earle.

Growing up in his hometown of Atlanta, artist/producer Sol Messiah was inundated with the rich and energizing spirit of Hip Hop culture. Getting his start as a breakdancer, Sol Messiah built his reputation as a b-boy before traveling to NYC to join the legendary Rock Steady Crew. Inspired by New York Hip Hop legends, Sol Messiah fell in love with another foundational element of Hip Hop culture: DJing. Spending untold hours mastering the skill, and acquiring the musical knowledge required of the DJ, Sol Messiah was prepared to make the leap into producing records, the next step in his musical journey.
A talented and skilled producer, Sol Messiah eventually linked up with Atlanta legend and veteran producer Dallas Austin. For years, Messiah would work alongside Dallas to create a deep catalog filled with timeless tracks for TLC, Madonna, Monica, Boyz II Men and more. At the same time, Messiah would continue to build his reputation as a DJ, securing several club residencies and gaining popularity and acclaim for his classic Sol Messiah Mixtape series.
After separating with Austin in 1997 to pursue his own musical path independently, Sol Messiah spent years building an impressive catalog and further established himself as a go-to producer for a wide range of acts. Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz is an award-winning Associate Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research focuses on racial literacy in teacher education, Black girl literacies, and Black and Latinx male high school students. A sought-after speaker on issues of race, culturally responsive pedagogy, and diversity, Sealey-Ruiz works with K-12 and higher education school communities to increase their racial literacy knowledge and move toward more equitable school experiences for their Black and Latinx students. Sealey-Ruiz appeared in Spike Lee’s “2 Fists Up: We Gon’ Be Alright”, a documentary about the Black Lives Matter movement and the campus protests at Mizzou. Her co-authored book [with Dr. Detra Price-Dennis] Advancing Racial Literacies in Teacher Education: Toward Activism for Equity in Digital Spaces will be published in April 2021.

Hip Hop Gamer fell in love with videogames at the early age of 4 years old. In December of 2007, he would take to digital media to create his first YouTube video and merged Hip Hop and gaming into one entity. One video led to another, and soon Hip Hop Gamer started to develop a small fan base. E3 veteran and former owner of thebitbag.com, Torrence Davis soon spotted HHG’s work and offered him credentials to attend E3 for his first time. It was then that HHG strove to become a world renown brand in gaming media. The HHG movement continued to grow as after an interview with TV host and DJ Peter Rosenberg of “Ebro in the Morning” on Hot97, as he was presented with the opportunity to become a gaming content contributor for New York’s top hip-hop radio station, Hot 97 combining his love for gaming, sports and entertainment in a unique way, the Hip Hop Gamer began curating and creating custom content for motion pictures such as Battleship and Ghost in The Shell as well as by interviewing celebrities such as Jerry Rice, Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jon Cena, Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Ryan Reynolds, Tyler Perry, RZA, Raekwon, Vivica A. Fox, Angela Basset and a host of other A-list celebrities and industry leaders. Maynard Okereke, better known as the Hip Hop M.D., graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Civil Engineering. He is an award winning Science Communicator, having received both the Asteroid Award for "Best Streaming Content" and the People of Change Award for his community outreach efforts. Dr. Andrisse grew up in Ferguson Missouri. Andrisse has said that he made poor decisions as a young person, and he was first arrested at the age of 14. By his early twenties he had been sentenced to ten years in maximum security penitentiary. During his time in prison, he was part of a drug rehabilitation program and was able to be released early. He was accepted to a doctoral program at Saint Louis University, and completed his PhD in 2014. After earning his doctorate he was appointed a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University Dr. Andrisse is now an endocrinologist and professor at Howard University College of Medicine, where he studies type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.[2][4]
In 2017, Andrisse was named JustLeadership's Leading with Conviction Fellow. In this capacity, he works to reduce the prison population by 50% by 2030. Andrisse's first book, From Prison Cells to PhD: It is Never Too Late to Do Good, was published in 2021. He established a nonprofit program to provide mentoring to current and former incarcerated people so that they can start building their careers after leaving prison.

Ashley Keiko is an up and coming saxophonist, composer, singer/songwriter and entrepreneur who has studied classical piano, alto saxophone, and has taught music for many years. Ashley has performed at major venues such as the Apollo Theater in New York City and Wollongong University in Australia. She has also performed for Steve Harvey, on the nationally syndicated TV game show, Family Feud. Ashley’s performance experience includes participation as lead saxophonist for the York College Blue Notes and for venues such as Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem and Live at the Gantries. Her debut album, “Pursuit of Harmony”, was released in November of 2020, which features Ashley’s originals and covers of classics, while displaying her smooth jazz saxophone tones across genres of hip hop, R&B, pop, and gospel. The album also features Ashley’s newly debuted soothing and serene vocals.
Ashley received her Masters in Music and Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. While at Columbia University, Ashley also studied abroad at The Arts College at Xiamen University, Fujian Province, China, where she practiced music and reflected on the ways in which culture, language, and the arts intersect in a trans-cultural world. Prior to her graduate coursework and study abroad, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance at School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School.
Alongside her roles as performer, music educator and music advocate, Ashley expanded her music academy, Keiko Studios, in January 2018 with the grand opening of a store front location that caters to adults and children who aim to explore the importance of music and music expression. Desmond Meade is a formerly homeless returning citizen who overcame many obstacles to eventually become the President of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition (FRRC), Chair of Floridians for a Fair Democracy, a graduate of Florida International University College of Law, a Ford Global Fellow, and a 2021 MacArthur “Genius” Fellow. Recognized by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2019, Desmond presently leads efforts to empower and civically re-engage local communities across the state, and to reshape local, state, and national criminal justice policies. His work has resulted in being named Floridian and Central Floridian of the Year 2019. As President and Executive Director of FRRC, which is recognized for its work on voting and criminal justice reform issues, Desmond led the FRRC to a historic victory in 2018 with the successful passage of Amendment 4, a grassroots citizen’s initiative which restored voting rights to over 1.4 million Floridians with past felony convictions. Amendment 4 represented the single largest expansion of voting rights in the United States in half a century and brought an end to 150 years of a Jim Crow-era law in Florida.
A sought-after speaker, Desmond has made numerous appearances on radio and television, and has spoken before national organizations such as the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and Bread for the World. Desmond has testified before Congressional members and staffers and was a part of a delegation to the United Nations where he gave testimony regarding disenfranchisement in Florida. Dr. Onaje Muid is a transformative social work administrator and consultant with over 35 years of direct, administrative supervision and training experience in behavior health, trauma informed systems of care, human rights, cultural competency and social justice. He was inducted into the New York Academy of Medicine as a fellow in 2015, after receiving the National Association of Social Workers, New York Chapter Exemplary Mid-Career Leadership Award in 2014. Ron L. Lacks is the grandson of the late Henrietta Lacks and is the author of the book, Henrietta Lacks: The Untold Story**. His late grandmother, Henrietta Lacks, was an African American woman whose cancer cells are the source of the HeLa cell line, the first known immortalized human cell line resulting in one of the most important cell lines in the history of medical research. Her cells advanced cancer and scientific research and lead to the development of vaccines including Polio, HPV, Covid-19 and countless more.
Henrietta’s story has been the subject of books and movies that have included some inaccurate facts about the persona of who his grandmother was. Ron was motivated to write his book to give an accurate account of who she was as a person.**
Ron became the sole executor of the Henrietta Lacks Estate in 2021 and embarked on the mission of sharing, restoring, and preserving the true legacy of his grandmother and the Lacks family, which is the subject of his book. He grew up in Baltimore, Maryland where he graduated from Northern High School before joining and serving in the United States Army.
In revealing the untold story, Ron corrects the profile of his grandmother from being portrayed as a typical and inaccurate stereotype of a poor black woman. Ron wants the world to see Henrietta Lacks in her true image as an educated, beautiful, black woman that had wealth of land and family.

Shabue Mosley is a Long Island native with a passion for the game of Basketball. At a young age he wanted to make it to the pros, but his career got sidelined when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He used this as an opportunity to give back and teach young people in his community the life lessons that basketball taught him through his training. Miya Bailey is a painter, illustrator, humanitarian, art dealer, and tattoo artist with over 22 years of tattooing in Atlanta. He is one of the first Tattoo artist to use colored tattoos on Black Skin at a time when many people thought that tattoos would not look good on black people. When he began his artistry, he was one of few black tattoo artists in the world. Through his art he has been able to inspire many black artists and has paved a way for black artist through his many art shows and apprenticeships that he provides to anyone willing to learn and work as a collective. Miya also set out to document the history of black art through his documentary Color Outside the Lines where he interviewed some of the very first black artist and pioneers of different art styles. Miya Bailey is continuing to develop the art community and spread his influence as an artist and humanitarian all over the world.

Ama Mazama (aka Marie-Josée Cérol) is Associate Professor and Director of the Graduate Programs of the Department of Africa American Studies at Temple University. She received her PhD with highest distinction from La Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris III. After graduating from La Sorbonne with Highest Distinction in Linguistics for her doctorarte, Professor Ama Mazama taught at the University of Texas, Pennsylvania State University, before arriving at Temple University in l993. She established a reputation as the principal exponent of the African origin of the Guadeloupian language. Her scholarly works critique domination and hegemonic philosophies, reveal the cultural, linguistic, and religious bases of Caribbean culture, especially Vodu, and examine cultural and critical methods of establishing an ethic of justice and equity.

Hashim Garrett grew up in Brooklyn, New York. As a young boy he was picked on and bullied. Hashim realized that he could avoid the torment if he befriended his tormentors, and he eventually joined a gang. There was something powerful about having others fear him for a change. When he was good, nobody seemed to notice him, but when he was bad, everyone knew his name.
At 15, Hashim was shot and paralyzed from the waist down. Nothing but tragedy could have broken the spell of bad decision making. As he lay on the ground wondering if he would live or die, his eyes were opened, and Hashim decided to change. Hashim has forgiven his assailant. Ironically, the shooter was beholden to the same series of bad choices that he himself had once experienced.
Hashim has not let his paralysis prevent him from leading an active life of remarkable achievements. He majored in Investment Banking at Rutgers University, and from 1995-2001 was Violence Prevention Coordinator at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, speaking to children about the causes of conflicts. Delivering this empowering message brought about yet another transformative moment for Hashim, realizing that this was his life's work.
Today, Hashim works with a vast diaspora of organizations, providing lectures, presentations, workshops and retreats. His approach is simple: The message is positive and non-religious, stressing self-respect and the unique value of each individual. Attorney Yanique Hall is the lead attorney at Hall Law Office, P.A. She was born and raised in Jamaica, and like many immigrants, she was deemed out-of-status shortly after graduating high school. Nonetheless, she had dreams of attending college to further her education, and she was eager to get started as soon as possible. Unfortunately, Yanique was in limbo with her immigration status for a few years, which led to a long delay before she could enroll in college. It was through the help of a persistent immigration attorney that finally turned things around, and she was able to obtain legal status as a permanent resident. Puzzles of Color is a black-owned family business run by brother-sister duo William and Ericka. They have been doing puzzles as a family since they were in elementary school and really enjoyed the challenge it presented and the long hours of family time they spent putting together works of art. But in doing so, they noticed two distinct problems, (1) the imagery often did not represent who they were and (2) when they liked a puzzle, they couldn’t find a frame that would fit them. So, they decided to take matters into their own hands and create a puzzle company that addressed both of these issues. The puzzles are frameable pieces of art created by artists of color. Puzzles Of Color strives to promote tech-free entertainment for people of all ages. This interactive art features the work of artists of color and hopes to create experiences and memories to last a lifetime.

Timothy Welbeck is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Africology and African American Studies at Temple University. A Civil Rights Attorney by training, Timothy is a scholar of law, race, and cultural studies. He earned his J.D. from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law and his B.A. from Morehouse College.
Timothy's scholarly work focuses on contemporary issues of racial identity in America, the intersection of racial classifications and the law in the American context, contemporary African and African American cultural transmissions, retentions, expressions and evolutions, hip-hop as a microcosm of the Black experience, etc. Timothy's forthcoming book “No City for Young Men: Hip-Hop and the Narrative of Marginalization,” explores how hip-hop communicates the lived experience of persons who live in urban centers across the nation, particularly Black men living in major cities. Timothy has also written several peer-reviewed journal articles including “Specter of Reform: The late Sen. Arlen Specter’s Criminal Justice Reform, the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, and its Role in Expanding the Modern Prison Industrial Complex,” explores the impact of the infamous 1994 Crime Bill in providing the infrastructure for mass incarceration within the United States. The research, funded by the Arlen Specter Center fellowship, examines how the federalization of criminal law, pursuant to the Commerce Clause, has led to expansive growth in federal law enforcement, imprisonment, and thus setting the foundation for the modern carceral state. Timothy's article “People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths to Rhythms: Hip-Hop’s Continuation of the Enduring Tradition of African and African-American Rhetorical Forms and Tropes,” examines hip-hop’s continuation of centuries-old African cultural norms and aesthetic values. It also adopted an Africological approach to provide a foundation for establishing hip-hop’s African origins and its manifestation of African cultural transmissions.

Imuetinyan Ugiagbe is a visual storyteller and journalist who happens to be visually impaired. She was born in Lagos Nigeria and immigrated to the states at the age of 14. Imuetinyan has been a writer and host for the Young African Symposium, a yearly event put together by the Council of Young Africans. She is also a contributing writer for the Girls Education Initiative of Ghana, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide educational and financial support to keep girls in school. She is an activist for women's rights across the African Diaspora and has produced TV stories for Voice of America. She believes stories can wound, heal, divide, unite, elevate and depress. Just as water and air are the primary sources for human survival, stories are the primary source for human connections. Her greatest goal as a storyteller is to tell stories that will ignite positive change in others’ lives, just as the stories she heard as a child brightened her world. Pierre Laguerre is a Haitian born American who emigrated to Brooklyn, NY at the age of 15. Shortly after moving to the neighborhood of East Flatbush, he decided that he would find a way to become a valuable product of his environment rather than a victim of circumstances. After his first year of college, Pierre left to become a trucker. The decision proved to be the beginning of a hard-fought and successful career in Transportation. Since then, Pierre has started and grown four businesses, generated over $7m in revenues and successfully fundraised over $3m. Although he has achieved things far greater than others would have in his shoes, his journey has only just begun. Pierre has made history by becoming the first black man to raise $1.07 million maximum in all regular crowdfunding platforms.

Dr. David Pilgrim grew up in Mobil Alabama towards the end of the Jim Crow Era. It was there he got his first racist artifact and decades later he is still collecting. He is the founder and Director of the Jim Crow Museum, the nation’s largest, publicly accessible collection of racist objects, located at Ferris State University where he serves as Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Pilgrim, an applied sociologist with a doctorate from The Ohio State University, is a Ferris State University Distinguished Teacher. He has been interviewed by National Public Radio, Time magazine, the British Broadcasting Corporation, and dozens of newspapers, including the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, and the Los Angeles Times. Dr. Pilgrim is also the author of Understanding Jim Crow: Using Racist Memorabilia to Teach Tolerance and Promote Social Justice, Watermelons Nooses and Straight Razors, Haste to Rise, and The Klan Unmasked. Pilgrim’s countless writings, many found at the Jim Crow Museum website, www.ferris.edu/jimcrow, are used by scholars, students, and civil rights and human rights workers to better understand historical and contemporary expressions of racism. His writings, scholarly and creative, deal with multiculturalism and race relations. His short stories have been published in Calaloo, Obsidian, African American Review, Aim, and Shooting Star. Pilgrim has been invited to deliver public lectures at dozens of institutions throughout the United States and Canada, challenging audiences to think deeply about diversity, inclusion, and race relations. In 2004, Pilgrim produced, with Clayton Rye, the documentary Jim Crow's Museum to explain his approach to battling racism. The film won several awards including Best Documentary at the 2004 Flint Film Festival. Jim Crow's Museum has shown nationally on PBS affiliates including as part of the series The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross. He also served as a consultant to Will Smith on UPN’s All of Us for the episode called "The N Word."
Pilgrim and Carrie Weis, a Ferris State colleague, created two traveling exhibitions to take the Jim Crow Museum's lessons to a national audience. Hateful Things is a 39-piece traveling exhibition of objects found in the Jim Crow Museum. The objects are accompanied by didactic panels that place the images in a proper historical context—offering insight into their past and present popularity. Dr. Pilgrim is looking to expand the Jim Crow Museum as they are constantly getting donations of racist artifacts.

Eric Grimes AKA Brother Shomari is an activist, author, speaker, trainer and educator. His primary focus is developing consciousness-raising and transformative learning experiences for those committed to overcoming social marginalization, oppression, and systemic racism. He is currently a Director for the Boston-based firm, Root Cause, a consulting agency for nonprofits and other groups. His current focus is developing the City Strategy and Support Plans for the Campaign for Black Male Achievement, as well as expanding Root Cause’s work in the Black Male Achievement and Boys and Men of Color fields. Early in his professional career he was a youth development specialist and served as a College Access Coordinator for the Philadelphia Education Fund. Brother Shomari has worked as a program development consultant to many Black male and youth-serving organizations in Philadelphia and nationwide. He is the host of The Shomari Show, a weekly radio program airing on 900AM-WURD, Pennsylvania's only African American-owned talk radio station. Additionally, he serves as a part-time/guest lecturer in both the Graduate School of Education and the Graduate School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania, and a workshop presenter for various institutes sponsored by the University's Netter Center for Community Partnerships. Èzili Dantò is a human rights and international law attorney, an award-winning playwright, performance poet and cultural activist. She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and raised in the United States. She holds a BA from Boston College, a JD from the University of Connecticut School of law, and attended the Hartford Conservatory for Ballet, Jazz and Modern while studying Haitian dancing at home and with countless Haitian dance experts in the field. She is a Haiti scholar and runs the Èzili Network, the Free Haiti Movement, the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network, ZiliDesigns and Zili Dlo: Clean Water, Renewable Power and Skills Transfer for Haiti. Èzili is the author of 10 plays and two book series. She regularly conducts Haiti teach-ins on the non-colonial narrative on Haiti centering on Haiti’s wealth, natural resources, revolutionary culture, Vodun spirituality and her expression of this through the VodunJazzoetry performance productions. Èzili was featured as a Haiti scholar and historian in the documentary: 1804 – The Hidden History of Haiti. In 2018, Èzili was honored at the Connecticut Women Hall of Fame for her lifetime of justice and cultural advocacy works. Professor Bayyinah Bello discovered her commitment to education before the age of 10 and was introduced to this field through literacy programs in Africa. Once she had completed her primary education in Haiti, she was sent to Liberia to live with her mother. After having completed her High school in France, she joined her mother who had left Congo to settle in New York. In this city, she earned a degree in secretarial, a college degree in education. Back in Africa, she obtained in Nigeria a Master in linguistics, in Primary Education, diplomas and certificates in interpreting…
Her professional career began in 1969 in the United States of America. She discovered the joys of writing in 1970 at the birth of her first-born for whom she wrote her first children's story. In Nigeria, she uncovered her passion for history in Arabic language, which allowed her to explore other literary and historical visions. She returned to the United States where she worked as a publicist, teaching French in the evening. Returning to her native country, she taught at the university and founded a primary and secondary bilingual school. She went to Togo, where she taught English and Arabic in different financial institutions.
Today, her energies are concentrated in the construction of the “Marie Claire Heureuse Félicité Bonheur Dessalines Foundation" also called "Fondasyon Félicité" (FF) for historical research. The ultimate goal of this foundation is the establishment of an “Ayitien” education system working to build a "Ayitienne" and a "Ayitien" aware of their strength, because they have learned to know their cultural vision, working with tools of their own, confident in their abilities and promoting better conditions of living for all.

King Randall is a 22 year old community shifter and the founder of the "X" for Boys organization in Albany, Ga where the motto is, "Let US Make Man" He hosts a variety of workshops teaching young men automotive repair such as changing brakes and oil. He also has workshops teaching home improvement such as replacing light fixtures, toilets, and painting. King Randall is also a chef. He graduated at the age of 17 with a degree in Culinary Arts from Albany Technical College before even graduating high school. He was the first black, Georgia Restaurant Association Student of the Year in 2016. He led Westover High School's Culinary Arts Team to Second Place in the state culinary championships in 2016 and 2017. With these skills, he has also taught the young men in his program basic cooking skills in different workshops. He hosts a weekly book club for boys to improve literacy skills and also to teach very important life skills growing into a young man. King Randall also started a bowling league for boys to get them into sports other than football and basketball. This will lead to potential scholarship opportunities for the boys as well as being another outlet for them to release stress. He also assists in feeding children weekly in at-risk communities and making sure they have a meal before bed. This is because many children only have a meal at school. He has recently rebirthed the Iconic "I Am A Man" March, from the 1960s, in Albany, Georgia. It started the new wave of men's mental health Awareness in the city. King Randall has spearheaded movements that have shifted the atmosphere of the city of Albany and he is just now getting the ball rolling. Albany, GA, King’s hometown, currently has a crime index of two out of 100. With a crime rate of 59 per one thousand residents, Albany has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. The violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). ( Albany, GA Crime Analytics). Offenders are mostly likely to be black males as young as eleven years old. Through his personal advocacy for male youth development, King founded and developed The “X” for Boys with a mission to teach boys the true meaning of manhood, true masculinity, how to be a team player and collaborate with others, and how to be protectors and providers for their communities. To continue advancing his mission, King is set to open The “X” for Boys Life Preparatory School in Fall 2022.

Dr. Kamali Thompson is an Orthopedic Surgeon, fencer for Team USA and creator of Saber & A Stethoscope. She began fencing her freshman year at Teaneck High School and became a member of the Peter Westbrook Foundation (New York City, NY) in 2006. Despite her limited fencing experience, Kamali was recruited by the Temple University fencing team. During her four years as a Temple Owl, she went on to become a four-time NCAA Championship qualifier, a second team All-American, and the first four-time NIWFA conference champion. Her performance inside the classroom and on the fencing strip earned the title of Student Athlete of the Year at Temple University twice (2011, 2012).
Kamali graduated from Temple University with honors, a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and a minor in Psychology. Post-graduation, Kamali matriculated into RWJMS and began competing internationally for Team USA. She is a 14-time national medalist, an internationalist team medalist and the 2016 National Champion. She was also a member of the 2019 national team and an alternate to the 2021 U.S. women’s saber Olympic team.

Surya Bonaly is one of the greatest Figure Skaters of All Time. She is a Three-Time World Silver Medalist, A 5 Time European Champion, the 1991 World Junior Champion, and a nine-time French National Champion. She is the only figure skater to land a backflip on only one blade. This move would be known as the Bonaly. She was the first female figure skater to attempt a quadruple jump in competition. Figure Skating has allowed Surya the opportunity to travel all over the world. Today Surya is an Ice-Skating Coach and has even blessed the TED ed Stage with a presentation about her life. Stefan Hawkins is a Serial Entrepreneur. He is the owner of several business including 2 Good Brotha's Cafes, Fifth Acres Coffee, and House of Vegans. Stefan grew up in Harrisburg Pennsylvania, where he would find himself struggling as a teen parent. After changing his diet to a plant based one, he was traveling outside of the city to get food, while on one of his food runs, he simply got tired and decided to open up his own vegan restaurant. Everything went great until the pandemics impacts made it difficult to sustain. He had to close it down, but he purchased a coffee-shop with his next idea of making a coffee/bookstore. He then read 2 books that he would say was the pillar of the success he has enjoyed. "How to run a coffee shop in 2020 and Why Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It." Kwesi Blackman was born in Guyana and came to the United States at 5 years old. Watching Doctors perform their work on TLC made him dream of doing the same. That dream took a detour when he got left back during 11th grade for cutting school. He decided that he would go the military route instead. The same day he was set to begin basic training was the same day the planes hit the Twin Towers in NYC, 9/11. Kwesi would go on to become a field artillery sergeant in the United Sates Army 10th Mountain Division and Combat Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After the military he would go on to continue his education and study medicine. He graduated with his MD from Howard University. He now practices in the same area he grew up in, Brooklyn! He gives back to the community through community workshops that educate the community about common diseases like Obesity, High Blood Pressure, and Diabetes. His goal now is to influence Black and Brown children to become doctors and give them an example of excellence. He does this through his company Complete Health Ventures that aims to inform, inspire, and mentor youth by helping them realize they can dream about becoming Physicians.

Oumar's Story in his own words I am a Damel. I was born and raised in Meckhe--a small community in rural Senegal. My first language is “Wolof”—a native language of Senegal, Gambia, and Mauritania, but I am also fluent in French, English, Spanish, and Portugese. However, food, and the stories it tells, the connections it forges, is my calling. It is my native language.
My culinary journey started young. When I was 13, my father passed away. As a result, my mother had to work several jobs to support six children, and I took to the kitchen to keep the family fed.
A soccer dream took me next to South America where I played for a club in Buenos Aires, Argentina. However, soccer dreams couldn’t keep me from the kitchen, and I soon enrolled in culinary school. I ended up staying in South America for a while, but traded my cleats for an apron when I opened my first restaurant in Necochea—a beach town south of Buenos Aires. I also started a small food truck, which ran a lunch menu delivering locally.
Recognizing the pervasive and lasting influence of the African diaspora on the food cultures of South America, I moved to Brazil in 2011 intent to learn more. After working the hotel and restaurant circuit, from local cuisine to fine dining, I started a catering business in 2013 that proudly served athletes in the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games. During the Olympics, it was my pleasure to develop and cook menus serving over five thousand athletes and staff across the NBA House, Australian Olympic Center, the New Balance House, Casa Cartan, and Casa Time Brazil.
Shortly after the Olympics, I continued my journey north, coming to the US with a vision of sharing my culinary journey with the world. Nothing comes easy, and to get my first catering business up and running and to build traction, I began driving for Uber and Lyft spreading the word as I got to know the streets of the Bay Area. It worked. Turns out Uber passengers have need for catering services. This initial success blossomed into The Damel. .
The Damel makes and serves delicious Afro-Brazilian cuisine that delights and satisfies our customers, but the Damel also serves historical road map—connecting us to our roots through food. My journey, my family, and my experiences are unavoidably infused in every dish we serve. I want to share that world. **Dr. Brandon Gamble received his training in psychology from Oakwood College for his Bachelor's degree, San Diego State for his Master's degree, and the University of Southern California is where he earned his Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology.
From 1998 to 2009, he served middle and high school students as a school psychologist in the Long Beach Unified School District before becoming an associate professor at Cal State University Long Beach, in the College of Education for the Educational Psychology program from 2007 to 2018. He has had the honor to serve as the adviser for the Black Student Union at CSULB. Also, from 2018-2021, he has was at his undergraduate alma mater to serve as the Dean of Student Success at Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL. Currently, he serves as the Charles Bell Faculty Scholar at the Black Resource Center at San Diego State University.
Dr. Gamble's written work and research has focused on African American male's social capital and familial support networks that empower young men to succeed in academics. For his dissertation titled, Social capital networks of institutional agents and the empowerment of African American youth****, he interviewed Guide Right program leaders for Kappa League and the African Male Achievers' Network, which are a part of the youth programs of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity, Inc. He has presented at national and international conferences regarding disproportional placements of minorities in special education, access to quality mental health care in schools, African American student achievement, and Mediated Learning Experiences.
From 2012 to 2013 he served as President of the California Association of School Psychologists. He also served as the Western Regional representative of the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) from 2016-2017. From 2013 to 2018, he was the liaison of the ABPsi the to CASP. Dr. Gamble also served as the Co-Chair of Leadership Development for the ABPsi in 2020. He has served his fraternity's chapter as the Guide Right Director for your program for Kappa from 2001-2003 and again from 2017 to 2018. He has also served on the national Guide Right sub-committee for mental health for the fraternity.
Dr. Gamble enjoys spending time with his family, martial arts, playing guitar, and surfing, which are all the things he dreamed of doing as a young man growing up in Southern California. He hopes to help you reach your dreams and beyond.**

Dr. Omalu received his MB, BS [M.D.] degree from the University of Nigeria in 1991. He received his MPH [Masters in Public Health] degree in Epidemiology from University of Pittsburgh in 2004. He also received his MBA [Masters in Business Administration] degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2008. Dr. Omalu holds four board certifications in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Forensic Pathology and Neuropathology. Dr. Omalu is also board certified in Medical Management and is a Certified Physician Executive [CPE].
Dr. Bennet Omalu, identified a disease he called Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy [CTE] in the brains of deceased athletes and military veterans; and received the “Distinguished Service Award” in 2016, which is the highest award of the American Medical Association. In December 2015, Sony Pictures produced and released a major Hollywood film titled “Concussion” on Bennet’s life and work. Will Smith played Dr. Omalu in the film. Bennet’s memoir “Truth Doesn’t Have a Side” was published in 2017 by Zondervan, HarperCollins. Dr. Bennet Omalu is currently the President and Medical Director of Bennet Omalu Pathology.

Jason Barrett is a Jamaican British Actor actor, script writer, black studies teacher, and comic book creator. Jason's beginnings involved a strong influence in the church. It served as a way to keep him focused and out of trouble. Jason fell in love with comics at the age of 9 as a way to escape the realities of living in the projects in England. He loved the Superman and Thor stories the most. but as he got older he realized that the same comics that he celebrated also depicted black people in unfavorable light. During a 6 year stent for a gun charge in the UK he developed 7 different scripts. One of the scripts was for his comic Heru: The First Hero that tells the story of a runaway slave finding an asteroid with magical powers that gives him powers that he can use to change the world. Luc is the Founder and Business Director of Abantu Audio, which was founded in 2015. His roots begin in Haiti but extend wherever he travels, whatever he experiences and all those he brings humor and light to. Through this platform he seeks to bring more understanding and truth to society with oral stories and narratives of underrepresented communities. Èzili Dantò is a human rights and international law attorney, an award-winning playwright, performance poet, and cultural activist. She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and raised in the United States. She is a Haiti scholar and runs the Èzili Network, the Free Haiti Movement, the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network, ZiliDesigns, and Zili Dlo: Clean Water, Renewable Power, and Skills Transfer for Haiti. Èzili is the author of 10 plays and two-book series. Constance Saal is a South African Commercial, Beauty, Fashion Model. Growing up Constance competed in Beauty Pageants, but never pursued modeling because her circumstances limited her self-confidence. It would take decades after her childhood for her to find the strength to pursue her dream. Flash forward she has modeled for some top designers including award-winning designer Clavon Leonard from the United States and David Tlales one of South Africa's top fashion designers. She has also been a part of the biggest show in Africa, The African Fashion International. Constance is continuing to make strides in the fashion world and has dreams of being on the runway for New York fashion week. "At the age of twelve, Clavon had a dream of seeing people walk down the runway in his clothing. He did not fully comprehend the dream then, but saw the affinity for clothing and being well dressed grow as he watched his father. Appearance was important and his father’s care for style instilled in him his own passion to express himself through clothing. The freedom Clavon found in fashion became limited as high school required uniforms. With that restriction, then came a greater awareness of his skin color. The experiences of high school pushed Clavon to experiment with fabrics, colors, and patterns so his skin was not the only thing standing out.
At age 51, Clavon is finally living the dream he had as a young boy, a testament that it is never too late to pursue what you love. From his first NYFW show with the Set NY in 2014, doors began to open. In 2015, he showcased at Mercedes Benz New Zealand, Fashion Gallery NYFW, Fashion Week Los Angeles, to his stand-alone show for NYFW in 2017. His designs have been featured in publications such as British Vogue, Tatler, and British GQ. Kaba Hiawatha Kamene was born in New York Hospital, on Monday, November 16, 1953. Since 2011, Kaba Hiawatha has starred in several critically acclaimed, documentaries such as Tariq Nasheed’s, Hidden Colors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 1804: The Hidden History of the Haitian Revolution. Shaakirah Nazim-Harris AKA Yasmina is a seventeen-year-old performer from Long Island, New York. Shaakirah’s high school theatre credits include: Seussical (Sour Kangaroo), Shrek the Musical (Sour Kangaroo), and Pippin (Leading Player). Outside of school, she performed in Michelle Obama’s Global Girls Alliance campaign and a national Facebook ad for Black History Month with girl group, June’s Diary. She is currently one of Long Island Arts Alliance’s Scholar Artists for musical theatre. She also releases her own original music under the stage name YASMINA. Reynard Harrison hails from St. Katherine Jamaica. He discovered his love for technology at the age of 10. He would then attend a private school Excelsior High School where he was able to discover the intricacies of computers in his school’s computer lab. He moved to the United States at the age of 17 and completed High School in Queens. He went on to receive a bachelors in Computer Information Systems at Farmingdale State College. After graduating, Reynard developed his own software company Software Assemblies which provides software development for all platforms. Jackson earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education science and coaching from Long Island University in 2011 and three master’s degrees, one in Interdisciplinary studies from Long Island in 2012, liberal arts and science from Stony Brook in 2014 and educational leadership from Penn State in 2017. Jackson was a three-year captain and three-year starter for LIU Post. He was an All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Second Team honoree as a senior after recording five sacks and 12 tackles for loss for the Pioneers. He was a member of the National Football Foundation’s Hampshire Honor Society and was awarded two of the athletics department’s most prestigious honors, the Christine Webb Award and the Roy Illowit Award. Jackson spent two years as an assistant coach at Stony Brook, first as a graduate assistant and then as assistant defensive line coach. One of his players, Aaron Thompson went on to rank among the top 10 nationally in sacks and earn All-CAA First Team honors. Jackson started his coaching career at LIU Post as a graduate assistant. Prior to that, Jackson was a graduate assistant with the defensive line for two years at Penn State. He completed all opponent and self-scout defensive breakdowns and coached the scout team. Two players he worked with earned national attention, All-American Carl Nassib and consensus All-American Anthony Zettel. Nassib was the Big Ten’s Bronko Nagurski-Woodson Defensive Player of the Year and was the Hendricks Award and Lombardi Award winner. In 2017, Jackson coached the defensive line at Fordham. He was responsible for game planning the run game, pass protection and third-down blitz packages and prepared the opponent scouting report for the defense. Jackson was the defensive quality control coach at Mississippi State in 2018, where he helped the Bulldogs to an 8-5 record and berth in the Outback Bowl. MSU ranked in the top 10 nationally in eight defensive categories, including a No. 1 national ranking in total defense (263.1). Jeffery Simmons and Montez Sweat earned All-Southeastern Conference honors. Andrew Jackson joined the Mountaineer coaching staff as the defensive line coach in January 2021. He came to Morgantown after serving as the defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for defense at Old Dominion for the past year. Jackson joined the Old Dominion staff after spending the 2019 season at James Madison as the defensive tackles coach. While at JMU, the Dukes led the FCS in total defense and was third in scoring defense. Brian Worthington was born in New York and raised in Woodside, Queens. He discovered very early on his love for flying. However, he never thought to become a pilot was possible due to a lack of accessibility, resources, and not seeing black pilots. Brian worked as an aircraft service technician at JFK Airport following High School in 1997 just to be amidst airplanes. Only one year later he enrolled himself in the airframe and powerplant aviation maintenance program at The College of Aeronautics and Technology.
In 1999, Brian decided to join the United States Army. During his active years in service, he served as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, assigned to the 325th Combat Infantry Parachute insertion fighting force. In 2003 Brian joined the New York Army National Guard and was assigned to the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade where he served as a UH60 Blackhawk Helicopter Door Gunner/Crew Chief. During his eight years of military service, Brian has deployed for combat and peacekeeping missions throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Central America. Never losing sight of his passion for flying, in 2003 Brian began taking flight lessons which resulted in him earning his Private Pilot certificate. Through continuous training, he later earned his Commercial Airplane Pilot Certificate. Brian's dedication to serving his country landed him a job with the New York City Police Department as a Police Officer in 2004, where shortly thereafter in 2007 he earned an honorable discharge from the Military.
In 2014 Brian co-founded the NY Metro Chapter of the Black Pilots of America, Inc. He is currently in his second term as the Chapter President. The organization provides training and exposure within the field of aviation. In 2016 Brian founded Flight King NYC LLC, a small business that provides flight training, affordable aircraft rentals, and flight tours around New York City. Due to his hard work, dedication to his community, and extensive experience in aviation, Brian was elected to sit on the JFK Redevelopment Advisory Council with a seat on the education committee. After fourteen years of service as a Police Officer patrolling the streets of New York, in 2018 Brian was accepted into the NYPD Aviation Unit. Now assigned to the unit, he serves as one of New York’s Finest Elite Helicopter Pilots.

Our next guest is a graduate of Brentwood High School on Long Island. He was the first athlete there to letter in four different sports. Football, basketball, wrestling, and lacrosse earning him the Iron Man award. He continued to play basketball, football, and track throughout his varsity career. However he was more than an athlete, he was an exceptional student as well, in fact, he brags about having a perfect attendance record in High School. After High school, he attended Long Island University where he played basketball and ran for the cross-country team. He then went on to graduate from Law School at Hofstra University. After Law school, he was a parole officer for some years and then started his own private practice as a lawyer. He has had his own practice for well over 15 years. Now he is moving on to his next stage in life serving as Islip District Court Judge in the fifth district. Among all the work that he does some of his most important work is the work that he volunteers for. He has volunteered to do many speaking engagements at local schools in his area. He represents underserved youth in matters of parole and school board hearings. He is also Treasurer for a local organization called to Keep Your Change that focuses on educating young people in the community. He has fought for the United States Congress in Washington DC for passage of Mental Health legislation. He is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association. He received a Town of Islip Official Citation for his community service work, the Suffolk County Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission Community Service Award, and was inducted into the Brentwood High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame.

Tony Christ is a published Author with an autobiography random Thoughts of A Soulless Child. He is a youth mentor, motivational speaker, boxing trainer, and entreprenuer. His life changed when he was arrested on attempted murder charges as a minor. He spent 15 years in some of the roughest prisons in NY. This was where the soul searching began, behind 3 walls and metal bars he had to deal with his pain and seek understanding. He became conscious of who he was and gained an understanding of his purpose. After a long journey through over 10 prisons and the chaos of the prison environment he was released in 2001, but now he had a sense of identity and something to offer those that looked like him. He went on to further his education and explored the world of spoken word poetry. He later launched Beautiful Minds Making a Difference Youth program and clothing apparels. Now he teaches boxing as a science and is working on a new boxing movie.

Fredia "The Cheetah" Gibbs is a former martial artist, kickboxer, model, and boxer, from Chester Pennsylvania. During her kickboxing career, she held ISKA, WKA, and WKF World Titles. Before her kickboxing career, she won three world titles in Tae Kwon Do and was an All-American in basketball and track.
Fredia The Cheetah Gibbs made history when she became the first African-American female Kickboxing ISKA World Champion. She earned the name "The Most Dangerous Woman in the World" after an upset in 1994 in her fight against World Champion Valérie Wiet-Henin of France in the "Battle of the Masters" Pay Per View Event in San Jose, California. She went on to become one of the most dominant champions of all time and remains a significant historical figure in light and super lightweight kickboxing divisions. She competed from 1991–1997, amassing a record of 16 wins, 0 losses, and 15 KOs, and three world Titles.
Her fight gear is displayed at the Sports Legend of Delaware County Museum, dedicated to preserving the history and memory of Delaware County Sports Legends. She is now an author, celebrity trainer, philanthropist, motivational speaker, and radio host. In 2016–2017 she was honored and participated in the Orange County Heritage Black History Parade and was nominated to attend the United States of Women Summit hosted by the White House. She was named one of the Top Ten Greatest African American Female Athletes of All-time. She is the first female athlete honored with a statue in Pennsylvania and the first female Martial Artist statue on the Planet!

Renee is a former three-time all-American soccer player at LaSalle University. She helped lead her team to its first-ever conference tournament championship and NCAA tournament appearance, graduated with two A-10 championships and three NCAA appearances. Renee is currently the second-highest points holder in women's soccer program history for goals and assists. She also played professionally with SkyBlue FC for a short time before hanging up her cleats to pursue her master's degree and coach women's soccer at Lehigh University. While at Lehigh, she worked in the Sports Media department covering games and creating media content for the athletics website.

Jon is a former All-State Track athlete and Basketball Athlete in High School. He went on to college for a track scholarship but ended up changing schools and sports to a basketball scholarship. He played Basketball at LIU post where his team was ECC champions for consecutive years. After graduating from LIU Post he realized that he wanted to be an Occupational Therapist and began his pursuit. It did not come easy it took 2 years to get his GRE and a lot of blood sweat and tears to get through the program, but he made it and earned his degree. Now he helps younger students find their path through the tough roads as a mentor which is invaluable in a career field that is mostly white. Jon is an Occupational Therapist at a Charter School in Harlem and is trying to serve his community the best way he knows how.

BABA Norman Daniels was born in the Demographic Peoples Republic of Brooklyn. He has raised in St. Albans Queens and Graduated from Andrew Jackson HS. After attending five colleges in four years, he earned his BS degree in Sociology from SUNY New Paltz and went on to earn his MS degree in Counseling and Student Personnel Services from SUNY Albany.
He retired in 2016 after 42 lively years at Suffolk County Community College with the academic rank of Associate Professor. He started several programs at the college. His most proud program was starting the African Peoples Association, a student club dedicated to the appreciation of African and African American culture. He is also known for his annual Kwanzaa celebrations around Long Island. He and the students from the club presented cultural enriching programs from Rites of Passage, African Naming Ceremonies, and annual trips to cultural and scholarly conferences. His most recent endeavor was a Zoom series of the" Color of Change", a collective of discussions on what is considered important in the understanding and what it means to be African American. He is currently teaching Adjunct at SCCC.

Peter Westbrook is a legend among American Sabre Fencers. He is one of the greatest of all time. He competed at five Olympics, from 1976-96, missing only the 1980 boycott year, and won an individual sabre bronze medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He also competed at the Pan American Games from 1975-95, winning 11 medals, including three golds, highlighted by the individual Sabre golds in 1983 and 1995. He competed at 11 World Championships between 1974-91, with a best individual finish of eighth in 1989. Westbrook won 13 US titles in Sabre – 1974-75, 1979-86, 1988-89, and 1995, and was a 7-time champion at the US Olympic Festival.
Westbrook’s influence on the sport, however, went far beyond a list of his medals and titles. He is the product of an African-American father and Japanese mother who met during the Korean war. They moved to New Jersey during his childhood and he was raised in Newark New Jersey He was able to earn a full scholarship for fencing to New York University, graduating with a degree in marketing in 1975.
Near the end of his fencing career, Westbrook established The Peter Westbrook Foundation, an organization devoted to using fencing to help develop life skills in young people from underserved communities, especially among New York City’s lower- and moderate-income youths. It has goals to teach young people good sportsmanship in addition to developing their critical thinking skills, strengthening their self-confidence, encouraging the maintenance of an active and healthy lifestyle, and supporting academic achievement. The Peter Westbrook Foundation has had an array of Olympic Fencers compete at the highest stage and earn medals. Mr. Westbrook has four of his students who are black men competing at the Tokyo Olympics this year.

Jenga Mwendo, a Lower 9th Ward native and current resident/homeowner, is the founder of the Backyard Gardeners Network and has worked since 2007 to strengthen the Lower Ninth Ward community – organizing neighbors to revitalize and create gardens, planting trees, and developing support systems to encourage and support the culture of growing in the neighborhood by and for the Lower 9th Ward and the larger Black community of New Orleans. Mwendo has worked with the Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development to lead a Food Action Planning initiative and Tulane City Center as a Community Organizer. She is a graduate of the Southern University Agricultural Leadership Institute, a TogetherGreen Fellow, and an IATP Food and Community Fellow. Eji Benson is one of the best designers in the world of fashion. He was born in Nigeria and came to the U.S to pursue his dreams of becoming a designer.. He was able to turn his dreams into a reality and attended fashion school in NY. He has not looked back since. He has been doing work in the industry for over 17 years. Now He has his own company ENNUI New York as well as his own fashion label City Junk. His main facility for manufacturing is in china and has partnerships with factories in Portugal, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Italy, Indonesia, Jordan, India, and Turkey. He does work with the best designers around the world and provides his own products for celebrities around the world including Oprah, the WNBA, and more. He also collaborates with the best in the industry like Nate Berkus to bring people top-of-the-line quality products and services. He believes that there must be opportunities for black people in the fashion world and is doing the work to provide access to black people in the industry through his podcast Fashion Labs where he collaborates with some of the best black minds in the industry. Eji also volunteers his time at different schools to teach students about the industry and even provides internships to help facilitate the growth and development of young people in the industry that look like him.

Reggie Lochard is a New York-based screenwriter, actor, and producer. As a producer, Reggie produced his first project in 2014, a short film titled “This House” that was well-received by both critics and his peers. In 2018 Lochard produced his first full-length feature film titled “When The Well Runs Dry” that premiered and was nominated for Best Feature at BronzeLens Film Festival and was then selected to Spotlight Screen at New York’s Latino Film Festival. As an actor, Reggie co-starred on several prime-time television series including “Law and Order: SVU” and “Celebrity Ghost Stories” and featured roles in several indie films. With much creative fluency, Reggie took his writing skills to work and co-wrote his first short film “This House.” Subsequently, he also wrote “When The Well Runs Dry”, and his third script “The Krew” which was posted onto the Blacklist in 2018. Reggie is a proud graduate of North Carolina Central University where he was a member of the Track and Field team and obtained two degrees: a B.A. in Political Science, and a B.S. in English Literature. After graduating he enrolled in the summer certificate program from the Rita and Burton Goldberg department of dramatic writing at NYU Tisch to help hone his screenwriting skills.

Jonte Lee is an educator in the Washington D.C. Public Schools and is doing amazing things inside and outside of the classroom. He was born and raised in New Orleans. He transitioned from pursuing a PhD in the sciences to taking advantage of an opportunity to teach at the High School setting through a teaching program at Howard University. Jonte has been teaching at the high school and college levels since. He is the 2020 D.C. Public School Teacher of the Year. He is a published chemistry teacher, lead teacher, and public speaker. He is also the department of defense STEM Ambassador. Since covid started he has gotten a nickname as the kitchen chemist for using his kitchen to do live science experiments through social media with his students and students all over the world. He believes that education should not be limited to four walls. He is a part of the Smithsonian and shell diversity in STEM Teaching Advisory Committee and black male educators for social justice. He has been on Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer 2020, Fox 5 DC, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, ABC News Heroes of 2020, Amazon Prime's series "Regular Heroes", and featured in the Washington Post as well as CNN. Despite all of his accolades since the pandemic Jonte Lee stays true to what he does and recognizes that his most important role is that of an educator and support system for his students.

Mikhail Brown is the producer behind the sounds you hear on the MasterMine program. He is a self-taught musician born in Jamaica. He grew up in Asbury Park in New Jersey. At the age of 12 he taught himself to play the drums and the keyboard, he would later teach himself the bass guitar. He graduated from Academy Charter High School as the valedictorian of the class of 2008. He received a Bachelors degree in Music Education at LIU Post. In college, he taught himself how to cut hair and gained status as a campus barber. This would lead to him becoming shop owner of Thee Kingdom Komb, a barbershop located in Asbury Park. He is also the owner of Spenctrumentals that focuses on directing and producing music videos as well as producing instrumentals for various artists. Originally from Brownsville, Brooklyn, Lisa B. has dedicated her life and career to serving court-involved youth in multiple capacities.
Working with organizations such as The Center for Court Innovation at the Brownsville Community Justice Center as the Youth & Community Programs Coordinator further revealed the many gaps and loopholes that exist in the criminal legal system which contribute to the continued mistreatment of black and brown youth. Those gaps pushed Lisa to further her education. She went on to receive her Masters in Youth Studies & Development at CUNY Graduate Center - School of Professional Studies. During that time, she became an expert researcher conducting multiple Youth Participatory Action Research projects in conjunction with CUNY and youth from all over the city. Each project focused on how youth-serving systems and agencies interact and impact youth. Now, as a Student Attorney at CUNY School of Law’s Defenders Clinic -she works with the Second Look project. The Second Look project assists rehabilitated individuals who have been incarcerated for 20 plus years obtain their freedom through clemency. Lisa is currently working with a 40-year-old black man from Rochester NY who was arrested at the age of 17 for murder charges.
During her time in law school, she has worked with criminal reform agencies such as Common Justice and Youth Represent. Her hopes are not only to continue to serve and advocate for youth, but be an example of the opportunities and possibilities which they too can obtain. #BlackExcellence

He was able to help his team win the Long Island Football Championship before graduating High School. He then went on to the military where he served two stints in Afghanistan for combat totaling 27 months. **Baba Musah Swallah is a professional Ghanaian visual artist born and raised in the densely populated community of Nima, which largely Muslim community, where people of different faiths live together harmoniously in the heart of Accra, Ghana. His paintings, murals, and mixed media works serve as tools that are designed to promote self-expression, create awareness, provoke dialogue, and transform society. His paintings reflect his experience in various African cultures and his main objective is to render the daily lives of people on canvas. He does so by presenting the aesthetic value of colorful scenes while telling the story of various African societies and the challenges they face.
The origins of his artistic ideas and inspiration are often spawned from his experiences in Nima. The creation of his artwork is based partially on aesthetics however, the message that he is trying to convey to his audience is vital in keeping the integrity of each piece. A majority of his work contains a narrative, one that he uses to communicate to audiences in order to create awareness and expose ideas and conditions that would otherwise remain unknown. Issues conveyed in his artwork include those that influence daily life in Nima in addition to those that speak to larger social conditions across Africa and the globe.
Musah is a contemporary mixed media artist. Currently, he creates paintings on repurposed wooden panels and mixed media pieces consisting of recycled materials such as wine corks and African wax prints. The irregularity of the wood Musah uses has become an important aspect of the composition. He collects wood from various sources using scraps and narrow wooden planks, which he fits together to create a painting surface. In the creation of his works, Musah slices, sketches, carves, and paints. His art also has a special emphasis on honoring black beauty. Celebrating the rich complexion of black people, the subjects of Musah's portraits are depicted with dark skin. Musah employs vivid colors and layered imagery, striking emotions and conveying a deep spiritual presence in the portraits he creates. #BlackExcellenceisGlobal**

Christopher Everett is a writer, film director, and film producer from Laurinburg, North Carolina. He has experience in film, graphic design, marketing, and advertising. Mr. Everett focuses on Documentary filmmaking that tells black stories. He is a communications manager at Full Frame Documentary film festival and a film curator that cofounded Black Doc which focuses on building and creating authentic documentary films for African American people and presents them through film screenings webinars and discussions. He is also the creative director of Speller Street films. He is well known for his film Wilmington on fire that recognized as the only coup de tat recorded in the United States History in which black people were massacred and removed from the town of Wilmington North Carolina. This was before Tulsa, before Rosewood, and even before Jim Crown. The documentary broke a record for most attendance in screening in its first screening. It’s been featured and viewed by audiences all over the world. The Film was even mentioned at the congressional hearing on reparations as a must-see film in order to better understand the need for reparations. Mr. Everett is now working on a sequel to Wilmington on fire that is set to be released later in 2021. #BlackExcellence

Professor Paul Robinson is a native of Bay Shore NY. He is an Adjunct Professor at Suffolk County College, Nassau Community College, and Westchester Community College. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the State University of NY at Brockport and his Masters's of Arts in African Studies at The State University of Albany. Professor Robinson has studied abroad at the University of Jamaica West Indies as well as the University of Ghana West Africa. He is the past National President of Sigma Phi Rho fraternity. Professor Robinson is also the Program Coordinator for the Police Athletic League Basketball Program, which is a summer basketball program on Long Island that serves more than 700 participants making it the larges the largest basketball program on Long Island. Since 1997 Mr. Robinson has held the title of CEO of Family Help Services Inc. a full-service youth agency dedicated to the excellence of children. Through the agency, he develops and promotes many after-school programs including academic assistance, mentoring, and job training. Mr. Robinson is also the Junior Varsity Coach for Amityville Memorial High School which are 2018 NY State Champions and 2020 Long Island Champions. Mr. Robinson is also the creator of Black Thought University, a monthly program that will be presented on MasterMine. #BlackExellence

Naima Robinson recently earned a Doctorate from Long Island University, her formal doctoral dissertation entitled “Avoidance and Denial: How High School Teachers Manage Discussions About Race and Racism.” An exploratory study grounded in Critical Race Theory and examining the racial literacy skills of high school teachers. Additionally, Naima has an M.S. Ed in Education Leadership, an MS in Social Studies Education, and a BA in History.
Naima has been an educator for 12 years and is the daughter of an educator and a judge. She is a founder and director at Keep Your Change academic support program in North Amityville. KYC’s mission is to provide academic enrichment to an underserved population. KYC is a volunteer based non-profit that works with students in the local community ages 8-18. KYC supports students in writing fluency, reading comprehension, historical analysis, math application, and career readiness, with a focus on leadership and life skills. One of our students, for example, graduated from our program in 2018, with a modest high school GPA and below-average math and writing skills. We worked with him during the summer before he attended an HBCU - he recently was accepted to a program in bioethics at Yale University. Keep Your Change helps to mitigate the damage of the racist public education system on Long Island. A system that underserves our youth and fails to prepare them for life after school. KYC provides these students with what they need to thrive in high school and beyond.
Naima has developed an extensive Black studies curriculum that she has been teaching at KYC for three years reaching over 100 local students. In her Black Studies class Students study history psychology, sociology, philosophy, and economics. They read Charles Mills The Racial Contract, Ivan Van Sertima’s They Came Before Columbus, and Joy DeGruy’s Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome. Her students explore Blackness as a Global Social-Political Identity, race as a social construct, Reparations for the descendants of slaves, Ancient Kemet, Nubia and Kush, Nile Valley Civilization, Great Swahili kingdoms, Masa Musa, The Moors, Hannibal, the transatlantic slave trade, Slave revolts and revolutions, The Haitian Revolution, Slavery and capitalism, Genocide and colonialism, Black feminism, students personal experiences with Racial tensions, conflicts, and stereotypes, African cultural and ethnic groups, colorism, internalized racism, and white supremacy.
She has a background in History and Women's Studies and a primary interest in issues of race, class, and gender equality in education. Her work helps students discover and evaluate the world around them and engage critically in active civil responsibility to make our community a better place.

"Your life is your canvas and your body of work is your legacy,” says Ms. Kenya Joy Gibson to all her students and emerging artists. Born and raised in Brooklyn, the researcher is committed to provoking a conscious thought in African-American history, and spirituality, to all people through storytelling and movement.
A former Dance Theatre of Harlem student, and one of the last to experience the tutelage of the late Arthur Mitchell, Ms. Gibson fuses classical ballet and modern with the polyrhythmic movements of West African Dance. She has performed masterworks such as “Dougla” by Geoffrey Holder and “Forces of Rhythm” by Louis Johnson. A conduit for retaining and reclaiming the legacy of the African Diaspora, Kenya visits West Africa yearly to bring our ancestral history, “home from home;” she is currently working towards ending education equity in Senegal as a Fellowship Fundraiser Ambassador for Teach For Senegal.
As a performer, Ms. Gibson is a company member with Forces of Nature Dance Theatre. With Forces, they won the 2017 Bessie Award for ‘The Healing Sevens’ for Outstanding Performance at DanceAfrica 2017 at BAM. She was also featured in the New York Times for her performance in Saya Woolfalk’s “ChimaTEK” installation, and in Spike Lee's “Art of Daring” campaign for Cadillac. As a choreographer, her works were presented at the Kumble Theatre for the Performing Arts, Symphony Space, the Ailey Citigroup Theatre, and the Salvatore Capezio Theatre, to name a few.
In May 2020, Kenya graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master's in Dance Education from the Arnhold Graduate Dance Education Program (CUNY-Hunter College), with special recognition for “Outstanding Choreography.” She now returns to Dance Theatre of Harlem as a West African Dance Teacher, grooming the next generation of young dancers to establish their legacy. In 2008 he addressed a Congressional briefing on Capitol Hill and in 2013 he was invited to the White House for the National Conference on Mental Health, hosted by President Obama and Vice President Biden. Jordan has received numerous accolades for his work in mental health advocacy and has been profiled by Sports Illustrated, PEOPLE Magazine, and USA Today. Intell hails from Staten Island. He is the son of U-God one of the members of The Wu-tang Clan which is often recognized as the greatest rap group of all time by many. He is also the nephew of method man, but behind the titles lies a man serious about his craft and the development of those that follow him. He has traveled all over the world doing what he loves best, making quality music. He has collaborated with a long list of artists like Big Tray Deee, Masta Killah, Method Man, Fred The Godson, Mickey Factz, Chris Rivers, Nitty Scott, Inspectah Deck, Token, YDB, and Snoop Dogg just to name a few. When he's not killing it on the Mic you can find him behind the camera, directing music videos. He has shot and edited over 100 music videos for artists from all over the world. Intell is the founder of Intellectual Entertainment that seeks to assist young artist in making a name for themselves in the industry. Anny Jules is a Queens, NY native. She has appeared in numerous television commercials that include Post Cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios, General Electric, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, and McDonald's. Anny Jules has also appeared as a special guest in ABC Soap Opera "All My Children" and has done voice-overs work for Nickelodeon television show, "Blue's Clues" and Scholastic "I Spy" Junior. Anny's resume also includes theater credits as playing Young Nala in Disney's "The Lion King" on Broadway. Yankees baseball superstar, Derek Jeter invited Anny Jules to sing at his Turn 2 Foundation banquet after he watched her impressive performance in The Lion King. Following her Broadway debut, Anny Jules went on to perform in George C. Wolfe's off-Broadway musical, "Radiant Baby" at the Public Theater which later landed her a nomination and win for the Audelco Awards "Rising Star" honor for excellence in Black Theater. Soon after, Anny Jules made her way to film, appearing in "Preaching to the Choir" directed by Charles Randolph Wright. Qasim Ellis runs his own practice as a Financial advisor. He received an opportunity of a lifetime after graduating from Farmingdale State College with a Computer Science degree. After being inspired by a stockbroker he decided to obtain his financial advisor certification which is the third hardest certification exam in the country. After a few months and a tough study regimen, he was able to pass the exam and receive his license. Passing the exam was not the hardest step, he still had to learn practical skills as an advisor which took years to obtain. His background as an all-American athlete pushed him past his limits. He was able to move up the ranks and now has over 200 clients ranging from celebrities, professional athletes, musicians, actors, doctors, lawyers, teachers, and more. When he is not taking care of his clients he is teaching and handling the finances for Skaterobics, a New York based company that mixes skating with dancing and smooth tricks. Marsha Smith is Co-owner of BodySmith INC. along with her husband Kevin Smith. Although Marsha is enjoying her success now, things were not easy from the start. Early on Marsha struggled with postpartum depression and found exercise as a coping mechanism and a key factor to her full recovery. Through her exercise journey, she met her husband Kevin Smith. They started working out together and have been inseparable since. Marsha’s husband Kevin wanted to start his own fitness company while they were dating, Marsha decided to assist him and provide much needed tools for female clients. This eventually led to a yin and yang business partnership and the two took off with BodySmith INC. Marsha utilizes her degree in nutrition and her personal training experience to give people a top of the line fitness experience that caters to each individuals goals and fitness levels. She focuses on teaching them how to sculpt the body of their dreams and unlocking their full potential by obtaining mental, physical, and spiritual self-mastery. Mr. Clyde is a proud product of Harlem. He grew up in the 1960s and 1970s. The Harlem Community played a major role in his development and even his love for Jazz. Ms. Davis, his 5th-grade teacher who happened to be black, played a major role in his upbringing and his love for school and education. He was even able to skip grades as a result of that strong influence and his passion for learning. He was skipped from 7th to 9thgrade and was able to graduate high school at the tender age of 16. Mr. Clyde went on to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education at Manhattan College and a Masters in Counseling at Long Island University. He has served many roles in the college community such as associate provost, academic advisor, adjunct professor, academic counselor, and more. He then served as Director of the HEOP program at LIU post for over 35 years helping many students of color obtain opportunities that might have been difficult had they not been a part of the HEOP program. Mr. Clyde’s fondest memories from all his years of work is watching his students develop from freshman year to senior year, then seeing them with their caps and gowns on graduation day. He is now the Educational Opportunity Program Director at Nassau Community College and is still making things happen for young students. Mr. Clyde is passionate about what he does and states that his work is never over even after retirement he will be helping those that need help.

Veta Williams is a Hall of Fame athlete, a National Champion, an All-American, a professor, a coach, an educator, and a mentor. She started playing basketball in 10thgrade at Freeport High School in Long Island. After a great High School career, she was able to earn a scholarship to attend Virginia Union University, a Historically Black College. At Virginia Union, she was able to lead her team to a National Title in her sophomore year with a 27-2 overall record. In her Junior year at Virginia Union, she received All-American honors and her team was back in the National Championship game. After her amazing college experience, she became a Training Director and Coach for the Special Olympics. She also found her way to the classroom as an Adjunct Professor at Manhattanville College. She then received an opportunity to be an Administrative Assistant for the Hofstra Men’s Basketball team. Somehow, she found time to play for The New York Sharks a professional football women’s league at the tender age of 40. The Sharks are the winningest women’s football program in the world. Nowadays you can find her doing an amazing teaching Physical Education and coaching at the Uniondale School District in Long Island. #Black Excellence.

Darrel Young had humble beginnings as a three-sport athlete in Amityville NY. He played football, basketball, and ran track, but his talents were mostly on the football field. He received a full scholarship to play at Villanova University where he would graduate with a Bachelors in Communication and Media Studies. Upon graduating he was able to pursue his dream and made it into the NFL as a Fullback for the Washington Football Team. Nowadays you can find Darrel in the NFL offices as a Manager of Engagement and Player Relations. This involves helping players in their transition into the league and out. When he's not doing the work in the NFL, he is doing work in his community. Darrel is a part of various volunteer-based programs that help train and educate young people in his community to be the best version of themselves.

Nigerian-born photographer and painter Osaretin Ugiagbe draws inspiration for his work from his life, often using it to reflect on his experiences in Lagos, the Bronx, and London. He has traveled around the world with his camera and his brush in pursuit of studying people in order to master his craft. He first developed his interest in art through a painting class he took at Hostos Community College in the Bronx. After that class, art became a part of him. He later got accepted to the top art school in the world, The Royal College of Art in London. Osaretin’s work has been on the cover of books like Stillborn by Diekoye Oyeyinka, as well as publications like the New York Times, The Financial Times in London, The Daily News, Columbia Journal Review, Okay Africa, Fox 5, CBS, Exit-Express, and more. Osaretin is also recognized as one of the top photographers in the world. When he is not painting you can find him walking through the city streets and capturing life as it is happening. Simba AKA young ghost is a talented Hip-Hop artist, poet, and educator from the South Bronx. His flow motivates and inspires young people to strive for greatness. His album mixed emotions tackles the difficulties of being a black man, how to deal with difficult emotions, and tough life questions. Young Ghost is a part of the Artist collective that looks at influencing young people through art education. He is also part of VOTE that educates young people in the Bronx community on their rights and how to handle police encounters. Carly Harper, a New Jersey native, experienced dance studio life in high school, where she learned techniques in Jazz, Ballet, Ethnic Fusion, and Hip-Hop. Her passion had motivated her to study dance in college, where she was privileged to work with Desmond Richardson, Khaleah London, Clifton Brown, Hope Boykin, Carl Paris, Steven Vaughn, and other prominent dancers in the business and received a B.F.A. in Dance Studies from Long Island University. Upon graduating, Carly continued her training through classes at Alvin Ailey and Broadway Dance Center, which includes her performing in the Ailey Extensions' Voices and Visions student showcase performance at Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater along with Broadway Dance Center's student showcase at Symphony Space. She has had the privilege to dance for Charles Smith, Jared Jenkins, Neil Schwartz, Chio, James Alonzo White, and other commercial dance choreographers. Carly was a featured dancer in So You Think You Can Dance Tour's commercial with Love Pastry sneakers, and was chosen to train in a select group of dancers with Dana Foglia for a heels-intensive. She performed for BET Network's The Rundown with Robin Thede as a live dancer and pre-recorded music video. She performed at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY for the Masters of Ceremony concert as a backup dancer for 50 Cent as well as Starz network, Power Premiere for 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Trey Songz, and A Boogie wit da Hoodie at Madison Square Garden. She opened her own dance studio, Surge Studio, in Congers, NY. Carly continues her training at Broadway Dance Center and is involved with many developmental projects with her dance career.
