I was hiding in plain sight from who the hell knows what. The boogey man was surely not interested in coming to get me. Not the sixth grade me. I was a loser. A coward. I was somebody who sat in the middle of the class and prayed that the teacher never called on me. I daydreamed and lost focused everytime a squirrel climbed up the tree outside the classroom window. I was a dork and nerd who wore glasses and had crooked teeth that would never be fixed because nobody had money for no damn braces. Well, that's what my momma said!
