Sermon Title : The Coming Revival
Date : 24th May 2020
Delivered by : Rev. Christopher Pak
Joel 2: 28 - 30
- I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
- Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
- your old men will dream dreams,
- your young men will see visions.
- Even on my servants, both men and women,
- I will pour out my Spirit in those days
- I will show wonders in the heavens
- and on the earth,
- blood and fire and billows of smoke.
John Knox’s Prayer
“One man with God is always in the majority”
- Knox’s prayer was not an arrogant demand, but the passionate plea of a man willing to die for the sake of the pure preaching of the gospel and the salvation of his countrymen.
- Knox’s greatness lay in his humble dependence on our sovereign God to save His people, revive a nation, and reform His church.
- Knox believed neither in the power of his preaching nor in the power of his prayer, but in the power of the gospel and the power of God, who sovereignly ordains preaching and prayer as secondary means in the salvation of His people.
There is a coming revival after this pandemic
- There are similarities to what we read in
- The similarities are glaring & we must prepare ahead
When Alarms are Sounded…
- There is a great sense of urgency: the two calls for alarm and the rapid-fire imperatives of verses 15-16.
- Theirs sins may have been great, but so is Yahweh’s mercy
- Repentance before restoration
- The promise of relief, compensation and blessing.
There is a coming revival…
- New grain, new wine and olive oil
- Secured border
- Do not be afraid, be glad - He has done great things
- The pastures becoming green, trees bearing fruit, I will send abundant rain
- I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten
- You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord
- your God, who has worked wonders for you;
Epic event: I will pour out my Spirit…
- Where God’s Spirit dwelt only in selected few…
- I will pour out my Spirit on all people
- Your sons & daughters will prophesy
- Your old men will dream dreams
- Your young men will see visions
- Even on servants
- I will show wonders in heavens and on the earth
- And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
A Summon to Penitential Prayer…“return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and
mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord
your God,”There is a coming revival…
- The pandemic only reveals the frailty of human existence
- Whether it is term God’s wrath or not, whatever perception we hold…
- The darkest night brings forth the brightest day…
Preparing for the Revival…
- Rend our hearts, not our external “garments”
- Humble ourselves
- Seek His face
- Turn from our wicked ways
- God will hear & heal!
