This week we’ve dedicated the episode to the legendary hip-hop producer and rapper J Dilla, broadcast the day after what would have been his 50th birthday. Dilla's pioneering work revolutionised the genre, essentially providing the baseline for Lofi HipHop as well as influencing many others like Neo-Soul, R&B, Jazz and Pop.

His use of soulful samples, intricate drum patterns and combination of Swung and Straight time created the conflicted time feel now called “Dilla Time”.

J Dilla was a key player in the Soulquarians group (that we often mention), collaborating with numerous artists, including A Tribe Called Quest, Common, and Erykah Badu.

Jay left behind a rich legacy of music that continues to inspire and influence artists across all genres to this day.

We hope you enjoyed the second official instalment of Album Club with J Dilla Donuts. Head over to our Instagram @soulsouppp, for our thoughts and an interesting synopsis of the album.

Unfortunately there was only half off Soul Soup this week with Aisling on the mic, Florrie could not attend due to college deadlines :(
