In the hearing and the telling of stories of Baltimore, of racial and economic injustice, of protesters, police, and prosecutors; of the constitutional rights of certain individuals; of steps taken by any person of any gender toward self-actualization, beware the interpretation that allows “us” to imagine that what is sought is something different for them or in them or in their neighborhoods. Even if are moved with all benevolence and gracious intentions toward the other, let us realize that through these events and experiences the Holy Spirit is seeking to convert our hearts, our lives, our relationships. If there is an “us” and a “them,” let us realize that they are bringing the Good News of Christ to us, and let us be glad, and be grateful.
