Episode Summary:Nestled on the second tier of the food pyramid, dairy is often lauded as the best source of calcium available to humankind. Recall that slogan: "Milk Does a Body Good" on billboards and commercials everywhere... From childhood, we were taught that it would help us grow big and strong. That sentiment still persists despite mounting evidence to the contrary.

We all love the occasional cheesy, ice-creamy indulgence. Here and there wouldn't pose a massive problem for most. The danger is in thinking that several servings per day are actually benefiting us. A study of over 18,000 women demonstrated that low-fat dairy greatly increased the chances of ovulatory infertility. Others are appearing that draw a connection between dairy and a plethora of immune and inflammatory responses. If you've listened to my previous podcasts on inflammation, you'll know that it exacerbates everything from endometriosis and fibroids to PCOS and unexplained infertility. It's not much help for egg quality and implantation either. Researchers at Harvard have been busy at work trying to educate the public on this potential foe. Needless to say, when it comes to your fertility, the topic might warrant further investigation. Particularly if you have a preexisting gut issue or are prone to allergies, IBS, or inflammation, dairy is definitely not your pal. A diet rich in dairy has sadly been linked to everything from diabetes to cancer. Scary, I know. Tune in to get the scoop!
