Supplement Spotlight: NMN for Egg Quality

Egg quality issues are front and center in the fertility struggle. Particularly with the loud and fast ticking of our biological clock. With this in mind, if there is something out there to help, I’ll be damn sure to make it known!

Enter NMN aka “nicotinamide mononucleotide”, a nutritional supplement and precursor of NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide). There has been some buzz on this lately in the realm of integrative fertility practitioners.

Studies have shown that NMN might prove to be beneficial in treating age related egg quality and fertility decline. We have seen that with age, egg quality declines, probability of carrying a healthy pregnancy declines, and NAD+ declines as well as a higher risk of abnormal embryos.

Mitochondrial function declines with age as well and can affect different organs, including the ovaries.

In mice studies, NMN effectively reduced the severity of many age related diseases. Researchers at the University of Queensland, Australia gave a daily dose to mice and it reversed the impact of aging on egg quality and increased fertility, but also did not harm offspring from them taking NMN in the process.

Unfortunately, there were some downfalls in this study. First of all, no human studies have been done yet, but it shows promising results. It also seems to be safe when used for short periods of time. We just don’t yet have parameters on dosing or duration to get results.

My hope is to bring awareness to NMN and anything else that could help you on your path. I also hope that discussing topics like these in this podcast will help bring up topics of conversations and questions for you to explore and seek out more information. It’s important to have these discussions and conversations to spark inspiration for you to keep exploring.

Keep going. Don't give up. Know that it’s okay to change course and find another route.

Tune into this week’s episode for the inside scoop on all things NMN.
