This is the story of a women who joined what she thought was the "Unified family" in Berkley CA in 1970. "Story time with Ommi" is the story of a women who walked through countless adversity with nothing but grace and experienced what it was like to be labor trafficked, marriage trafficked, shunned, shamed and used as what is originally called "A comfort wife" In the unification church. Now Ommi isn't Technically a "comfort wife" since comfort blessings are only allowed after a spouse dies, however the same toxic culture towards ommi was applied., in that the entire community saw her as "replaceable"." Comfort women" is originally a term used by the Japanese imperial army including Nobusuke Kishi (moons political front in japan) to describe the enslaved sex trafficked women in Unit 731+. The Unification church ironically adopted that same term for the marriage trafficking they partake in. We both walked through fire to get here, and this is the real story of growing up Moonie.

This week I spoke with Teddy Hose who is an artist and writer based in Brooklyn, NY. We spoke on a range of topics from growing up in Bridgeport Connecticut, the history of the church, current issues in energy and politics, the power dynamics in the cult and how we are healing after being labor trafficked in the Unification Church by an para military organization called “Special Task Force” (STF,OLT,GPA). Teddy Hose grew up in the Tarrytown community just north of the city, near the Moon family in the 80s and 90s, before his family moved to Seattle when he was a teen. Teddy was a 2nd generation leader in Seattle in high school, then went on to do STF and attend the University of Bridgeport for 2 years, before transferring to the School of Visual Arts in NYC. He now creates social media videos for television networks career-wise, and his own art on the side, currently music. Teddy is most known for his whistleblower efforts on cults and the Unification Church, having appeared on Netflix’s Explained, A&E’s Cults & Extreme Belief, and numerous podcasts while doing graphic design for the Falling Out podcast. This week I was able to revisit with Yoshika Wason, who is an educator and writer, as well as a 2nd generation born and raised ex-member of the Unification Church. We explore a plethora of stories and intersections between our two perspectives of growing up moonie in the city of Bridgeport Connecticut. We discuss the settlement era of the Unification church and what that looked like from a child's perspective. We also talk about Poetry, Wonhwado, navigating school systems in a corrupt system, escaping the cycle of income inequality, labor trafficking of 1st generation Unification Church members, and so much more. Bridgeport Ct has one of the highest crime rates in the United States and Bridgeport is ranked as 2nd in the US as greatest city with income inequality. Please keep in mind that many Unification Church members are working for trade services, with no actual paystubs, health care, retirement, insurance or social security. (Labor trafficking, financial abuse, debt bondage,) Also keep in mind that during this "Settlement era" there is immense pressure to support the church and donate/tithe unjustifiable amounts to the church and affiliated organizations. She also shares insight of what the UC is doing in Africa, in her own experience. We discuss the origins of ffwpu's labor trafficking fast food joint Burger Hut and Heaven' G burger. Unknown if they are paying members decent salaries but they are a non profit fast food restaurant... whatever that is 🤔
