On June 10, 2021, the President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Dr. Mohammed Ifraan Ali, declared this South American nation a Level 2 National Disaster because of the country-wide flooding resulting from incessant rainfall over the past four months.
Columnist Mosa Mathifa Telford wrote, "Disaster and crisis have always been common in Guyana. In our moments of calm, whether consciously or subconsciously, we are in a state of constant preparedness for the next chapter in our book of trials and errors".
